Does [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] sound too much like a candle scent?
I know there’s probably a better way of saying it, but I think that you get what I’m getting at.
Perhaps two nature names together isn’t the best idea.
I don’t know what you mean about [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. Can you elaborate?
Well, [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] is a nature name and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a season.
You know how candles always have these descriptive names and names that evoke imagery. [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] may be one of them. I can’t tell if it’s a good or a bad thing. I don’t know if my friend considered it yet.
I thought [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] was pronounced osheen? [name_m]How[/name_m] is it meant to be pronounced?
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m].
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m] because it’s the only ‘real’ name up there.
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] (English: oak wood or clearing): She loves it but there’s the connection with [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u].
Your average non-name-nerd [name_u]Brit[/name_u] isn’t going to know who [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] is.
It is, she was saying her friend doesn’t want a phonetic spelling of it.
Yeah, I was also wondering how it’s meant to be pronounced and that may be an issue, depending on where your friend lives.
Oisin - Meaning of Name Oisin - Pronounce Oisin Irish Boy Name << There you go.
@tuitree: I think [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] is pronounced [name_m]Osheen[/name_m]. She doesn’t want a phonetic spelling of it. She thinks it turns it into a made up name. It would make his life easier possibly.
@renrose: I agree that I like [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] best for her. It does seem best with their surname [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. The pronunciation is the only issue. The only reason I brought up [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] with her is because nameberry mentions it. When you look up [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] one of the suggestions is [name_f]Annie[/name_f].
@lovitalane: Yeah, I think that’s the main reason that she hasn’t settled on [name_m]Oisin[/name_m]. I think it suits them best.
@renrose: Thanks for the correct pronunciation. I wish that Nameberry would add pronunciations to the names when you look them up. It sounds very close to ocean. That might be difficult with [name_u]Winter[/name_u].
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m] seems to be most popular so far.
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m] sounds rather close to ocean. Is that an issue with [name_u]Winter[/name_u]?
I don’t think [name_m]Oisin[/name_m]'s pronunciation is to close to ocean that it would make winter sound strange.
I really like the story behind [name_m]Oisin[/name_m]. It’s strange that it sounds close to ocean but means little dear.
Other O names she may like are,
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Olivier[/name_m]
Ollivander (I know it’s from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] but it sounds like it could be a surname)
[name_m]Orville[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
I still like [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] best. I voted for [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] because I like it too but it does seem a little much with [name_u]Winter[/name_u].
@lovitalane: I’ve messaged her. She really likes [name_u]Oberon[/name_u]. She prefers [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] to [name_m]Olivier[/name_m]. Ollivander is way too out there. She doesn’t like that it’s made up. To name your son Ollivander means you’re a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan, which isn’t a bad thing to be. But it lacks the history that other names have. [name_m]Orville[/name_m] reminds her of [name_m]Wright[/name_m] and Redenbacher. All she said to [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] was [name_u]Tony[/name_u] and Grammys. Thanks for the suggestions. I also really like the history behind [name_m]Oisin[/name_m]. Her husband is concerned that it ends in “sin”. I really wouldn’t spell it [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] instead. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any middle name suggestions?

[name_m]Oisin[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
Oakley Winter does sound a bit like a candle, lol. I think it’s a bit too heavy on the word names, and that just proves to make the name seem cheesy instead of as awesome as it should be. Unfortunately Oxford Winter just sounds like you’re talking about a time of year in Oxford…
Off the list I voted for Oisin, because at least it is a legitimate name with an adorable meaning and a strong history. However, she would definitely have to be ok with the fact that it will have a great deal of spelling and pronunciation issues from anyone who isn’t a name nerd or familiar with Irish names. I personally don’t think it sounds too much like “ocean” but I do see the slight similarity, especially taking into account pronunciation mistakes. And that does put it on the borderline of the Oakley category and too many nature categories wrapped in one. It is still my favorite of the three choices though, and it definitely is a great name. What about:
Orion Winter (my favorite O name, I LOVE the magical, starry sound of this)
Orlando Winter (possible place/season issue here. Another option Oren would solve that.)
Owen Winter (perhaps a bit repetitive with W sounds but I still happen to rather like it)

Off the list I voted for [name_m]Oisin[/name_m], because it is a legitimate name that flows well, with the bonus of an adorable meaning and a strong history. However, she would have to be willing to accept with the fact that it will absolutely have a great deal of spelling issues. I personally don’t think it sounds too much like “ocean” but I do see the slight similarity, especially taking into account pronunciation mistakes by anyone who isn’t a name nerd or familiar with Irish names. And that does put it on the borderline of the [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] territory with too many nature categories wrapped in one. As a child, I always loved the name [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]…but I didn’t know it was a real name, and being a child I didn’t think I could use it…
Growing up, I decided it was definitely usable, and a couple years ago discovered it was in fact an actual name.
I would definitely pick [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]! I love the sound of the name…with the nn Potential of [name_u]Oak[/name_u], [name_m]Oakes[/name_m], or Oakey.
The name means “meadow of [name_u]Oak[/name_u] trees” which is quite nice…
Picture a meadow of trees in the winter…beautiful…just like the sound of the name [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u].
For a middle name you may want to go with something more classic, Perhaps, [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Grant[/name_m]?
However, another nature themed name would also sound lovely…[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]? [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] Bramble? [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] Summit? [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Asher[/name_m]? [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]? [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]?
I also like the sound of [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Thayer[/name_m], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_m]Leviticus[/name_m]?
Also, I think of it as a name immediately, then trees, [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] sunglasses, and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]…
So she doesn’t want Oisin to be pronounced O-sheen? It kind of sounds like Ocean Winter? I dunno about that.
Oakley is such a cute name. Oakley Winter sounds cute too!
I really don’t like Oxford. Very macho.
Other O names:
Otto
Oscar
Otis
Odysseus (which if she likes Ulysses, that’s not too far of a stretch)
Oliver
Owen
Ostin
Octavius
Odin
Orion
Ogden
Olson
Ollin / Ollyn (like Collin)
Onslow
Ontario
Orlando
Oran
Orson
Osbourne
Osias
Osher
To be honest you could find a lot of names and drop the first letter and get an O name. You can even put an O in front of most names and it works. Or replace names that start with vowels with O. (Like Collyn to Ollyn, Silas to Osilas, or Asher to Osher.)
I think Oscar (champion), Oliver (peace, elven), Owen (young warrior, well-born), Osias (salvation), or Oran (pale little green one) sound great with Winter.
Osias is close to Oisin, and actually sounds better with Winter.
Osias Winter or Oliver Winter are my votes.
Whilst I do think [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] is a very nice name… I just wanted to throw out this association honestly.
As a lover of chinese food, [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] reminds me alot of Hoisin (sauce)… I don’t think I can get over the association and if it is just me then fine
** I figured if I thought of it someone else might and it’s better to hear it now than later
I don’t really case for any of her O-names. [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] feels trendy to me, and [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] does sound like a candle scent. [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] sounds too close to [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u], which also sounds like a candle or maybe a “nature sounds” cd. [name_m]Oxford[/name_m] is just plain unattractive as a first name, brings to mind hipster shoes for me. I also own a candle called simply “[name_m]Oxford[/name_m]” which smells really great, so i can see [name_m]Oxford[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] being candle-y as well.
I really like [name_m]Osias[/name_m] or [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] for her. [name_m]Both[/name_m] flow with [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. [name_m]Oswin[/name_m], my favorite O-name won’t work for her, but she could use it as a nickname by taking the Os of one name and adding the [name_u]Win[/name_u] of [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. That might be kind of cute to have an [name_m]Osias[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and nickname him [name_m]Oswin[/name_m].
