So I always loved unique rare names but when it comes down to the idea of me using them I lean towards the old classics - although dreadfully familar sound sweet. Its like a love hate thing?
What about you do you love one type of names but rather use another subconsciously?
I love reading about long, interesting, ‘out-there’ names, including some of the combos berries come up with. Foreign and ancient names with slightly unfamiliar sounds are so much fun.
But in reality, I prefer short, simple, and familiar. I don’t want my children to feel defined by their names or like they have something to prove. Nothing against people who use different names, of course. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not for me.
I really like the sound of a lot of bouncy, surname-y, unisex-ish names for girls: surnames ending in y like [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], [name_u]Ellery[/name_u], [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] in particular. But I just don’t think I’d use them - I fully endorse other people doing so, it just doesn’t mesh with the rest of my more classic style and I worry the bouncy would annoy me over time. But I do like their sound!
I love long, old or ancient names with a history behind them, like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_m]Ebenezer[/name_m], [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]… I just use them for middle names instead, pairing them with a more classic first name for some weight.
