So Eowyn has been at the top of mine and my husband’s list for a couple of years now. Other names have come and gone, but it has stayed always bouncing around our top 3. It will definitely end up somewhere in a daughter’s name, either as a middle or a first depending on how brave we are when the time comes. However I do realise that it is a pretty unusual name and while I think it is beautiful and would hope our future daughter would wear it with pride, I do like the idea of pairing it with a more “normal” middle just in case she would prefer to go by that as she gets older if she were to feel Eowyn really wasn’t her style. She would also have the option of using the nn’s Wynn or Wynnie. I definitely want options
I’m liking relatively uncomplicated, feminine middles for Eowyn, though I haven’t found any yet that are absolutely “the one”.
So far I have:
Eowyn Rose
Eowyn Ivy
Eowyn Colette
Eowyn Giselle
Eowyn Sylvie
Eowyn Eleanor (I would never use this because of the alliteration as our last name also begins with E, but I do really like it!)
Eowyn Ada
Eowyn Adelaide
Eowyn Audrey
Eowyn Léonie (this one is probably my favourite of all of these)
You can also see in my signature more of my general taste in names if that helps.
So, what are your favourite middles that you feel help balance out an unusual name such as Eowyn? I’d love to hear them even if they may not fit with my usual style as I’m willing to broaden my horizons a bit! Do you have any favourites from my list? Thanks in advance
I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] the best, then [name_f]Colette[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] ends in a consonant and so a vowel middle should work, it drags into it - eg [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f]-nivy.
I’m loving [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] Léonie and [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] (from your sig)! Great choices. I’m happy to see [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] getting some loves. <3
I love [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] & I would suggest:
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Georgina[/name_f]
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] too, but the double ‘y’ look sort of puts me off for some reason, though I do love [name_f]Carys[/name_f]!
And luneth, I love [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] too (obviously :)) however I didn’t add it to my list since [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is also a rather unusual medievel-ly, mythical type name like [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f], thus I don’t know if it’s as good at balancing it out as a more classic name would be
Of the suggestions made, I really like [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] & [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. From your list, my favorite is [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] Léonie. [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] feels a little short…maybe [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]? [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]? [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] Rosabeth? [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] also feels a bit short…[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]?
I agree, [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] does feel a little short on second thought. While I’m not a fan of [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is okay and I do think [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is pretty!
And I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]! I’ve always loved [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] as a boy’s middle, and never really considered [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] for a girl but I think it’s so beautiful here! It’s so grand and classic and feminine that I feel it is a nice juxtaposition to a more unusual and earthy sounding [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f].
I think they’re literally all stunning! I think [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is my favorite. As much as I love [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], I would avoid it as there is an author named [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Ivey[/name_f] and such it’s quite an underused name, it may be associated with her. Who knows though!
PS: [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] has been on our list for years too! I am hesitant to use it and I’m so glad to see it getting some love!
Oh how funny! I will have to look [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Ivey[/name_f] up! Always glad to see a fellow [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] lover, considering most people find it strange or nerdy haha. But it seems we have very similar tastes, many of the names in your signature are some of my favourites too! ([name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f])
suzannah, I love [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] has been a favourite of mine since I was a teenager and it works well as a middle here
