A favorite of my teenage years, yet I always only cared for [name_f]Fay[/name_f] (and sometimes Fae), but never [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] looks too “heavy” somehow for such an airy, fairy-like sound, like the E drags it down (sorry, way too dramatic haha).
Thoughts on [name_f]Fay[/name_f], [name_f]Fae[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f]?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you get different associations for the spellings?
I love [name_f]Fay[/name_f]! This is my favourite spelling as well. She feels a little more classic and understated, in a good way! I’d be excited to meet a [name_f]Fay[/name_f]. [name_f]Fae[/name_f] has very strong, well, fae imagery, but at the same time it feels quite a bit more modern so I struggle to pin down its vibe. And [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is alright, I just don’t like how it looks as much!
yeah, I’ve read different things the fairy one sticks in my head as it was the first one I read years ago but that doesn’t mean it’s right!
The ‘other’ one feels more legitimate, but there’s also the ‘goddess’ modern Hebrew meaning and it’s also the name of a tree. And the daughter of a nymph and a king in greek mythology (maybe where the fairy thing originates from - or from ‘other’ like a mythical creature?)
I’d say, since the other meanings feel more grounded in etymology/fact, I’m now thinking [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Fay[/name_f] is fine It flows well
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: unless it comes from people linking it to [name_f]Elva[/name_f]? anyhow, I’m now rambling
[name_f]Fay[/name_f] is my least favorite spelling out of the bunch. For some reason it looks like just a word to me instead of a name. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] I like more with the E added on the end. It makes it feel more complete. I do like the spelling of [name_f]Fae[/name_f] though! I think if you wanted a more airy, fairy like feel [name_f]Fae[/name_f] fits that really well!
I like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f]! [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f] feels very long to me. It doesn’t flow the way I wish it did.
[name_f]Fae[/name_f] feels very ethereal, [name_f]Fay[/name_f] still feels mystical but more grounded, and [name_f]Faye[/name_f] feels the least fantastical and more like a classic vintage name, which is more my personal style so this is the spelling I have on my list, but all three are really pretty.
[name_f]Fay[/name_f] is my favorite as well. She feels like an all-ages name. Sensible as she ages, but still delightfully girlish in her youth. I think there’s lots of room for gender neutral-ness in [name_f]Fay[/name_f] too. [name_f]Fay[/name_f] is soft and delicate. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] just feels a bit like you wanted to put a cherry on a cake already lovingly iced, and [name_f]Fae[/name_f] feels a bit too literal.
A beautiful name all around, and I would love to see it as a fn! [name_f]Fay[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is very pretty!
I love all spellings of [name_f]Fay[/name_f]. [name_f]Fay[/name_f] is the original way to spell it as it relates to the [name_u]French[/name_u] word for fairy. I do not know the origins of [name_f]Ella[/name_f], but as it is so related to [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] it does sound very fairytale like to me. I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] Fay/Fae/Faye is a lovely, flowing combo.
