Feedback on choices for girl names (baby #3)

Hello. [name]Long[/name]-time lurker, first time poster.

We are in the last trimester for our third baby, a girl and are not feeling totally settled with our choice for a name. So, we’ve opened it back up and I’m looking for some feedback on our options. We have two children, [name]Keira[/name] and [name]Grayson[/name], so are looking for a name that works with theirs.

Here goes:
MacKinley
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Lainie[/name] (all summer liked [name]Delainey[/name] w/ nn [name]Lainie[/name]; now, not liking [name]Delainey[/name] so much)
[name]Kinsley[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]

We’re pretty set–and loving–[name]Lark[/name] as a middle name, except with [name]Lainie[/name]. That would be too much. “[name]Mack[/name]” is a family name on my mother’s side, so that’s why it is at the top of our list. I tend to prefer Celtic names and surname names, but don’t want something in the top 100. And, apparently, I tend to like -lyn, -ley, endings in names but that’s not set in stone. Thanks in advance!

Off your list, I like [name]Emery[/name] to go with [name]Keira[/name] and [name]Grayson[/name].

Here are some other suggestions:

[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Shaelyn[/name]
[name]Clare[/name]

I think [name]Gemma[/name] [name]Lark[/name] would be adorable

I like [name]Gemma[/name] [name]Lark[/name], too

Thanks so much! [name]Gemma[/name] has been a bit of a dark horse. Hubby didn’t like it at first but says his mind is changing. Does it sound too close to [name]Emma[/name]? (Again, not a bad choice, but [name]WAY[/name] too popular for us.)

Also, does MacKinley not sound feminine enough? I kind of like androgynous names but still want to pick one that more likely to be in the girls’ column than the boys. We had briefly considered [name]Finley[/name] when we found out we were having a girl as we’d liked [name]Finn[/name]/[name]Finnegan[/name] so much from our boys’ list. But, I worried that the nn [name]Fin[/name] would automatically sound like she was a boy. (sigh.) So complicated!

I love [name]Gemma[/name] [name]Lark[/name]! I don’t associate it with [name]Emma[/name] (I think of [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name])

Since [name]Kiera[/name] is a very feminine name and MacKinley and [name]Grayson[/name] are both fairly androgynous and surname-ish, I’d definitely assume MacKinley was a boy in a sibset of [name]Kiera[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], and MacKinley. [name]MacKenzie[/name] or [name]MacKenna[/name] would work much better, I think, but you’ve probably considered those already (and I like [name]Gemma[/name] better anyway!)

I also love [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Lark[/name] with your sibset.

Good luck!

Wow. Thanks! I’ve been getting a muted response from people when we’ve said MacKinley was our top choice (aunts, co-workers, etc.), so I wondered what it was that they might be picking up on, but I wasn’t. And, I agree: [name]Mackenzie[/name] is more feminine but a bit too popular. [name]McKenna[/name] has a personal connection that makes it unusable.

I wish I was cool enough to do Fionnula. It might be a bit much for the midwest, where I live, but it is lovely and cool. [name]Fiona[/name] is nice, but I’m not really a Shrek fan.

Thanks again. DH and I really appreciate the feedback! Please keep 'em coming!

I really like [name]Gemma[/name] [name]Lark[/name] and MacKinley [name]Lark[/name].

I actually had [name]McKinley[/name] on my list for a short while, but took it off because I strongly associate it with [name]MacKenzie[/name] which is one of the names that I personally do not like at all. For someone without the bias of hating [name]MacKenzie[/name], I think MacKinley is a great name and sounds very feminine, [name]IMO[/name]. Plus, you have the nn [name]Kinley[/name] - which is close to [name]Kinsley[/name].

Oh, I don’t associate [name]Gemma[/name] with [name]Emma[/name] at all. It never even entered my mind.

What about [name]Keely[/name] [name]Lark[/name] or [name]Brenna[/name] [name]Lark[/name]…?

Otherwise I agree with pp that Mackinley is on the feminine side and I really like it with lark and w/your other kids! A little girl w/the nn [name]Mack[/name] is cute!
