Feedback on Strong/Uncommon Name List

[name]Hi[/name]! My husband and I are working on narrowing down our name choices. We both like names from the past, usually with strong meanings, and names that our daughter won’t run across on a regular basis. [name]Petra[/name] was high on our list for a long time, but as I get closer to my [name]August[/name] due date, I can’t see using it for our daughter anymore ( I try to imagine calling her by the names when she gets older). Here are our top picks right now. I really like all of them. I would love feedback on names and combinations listed. Thanks!!

[name]Edith[/name] “[name]Edie[/name]” [name]Mirabelle[/name]

[name]Franca[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]

[name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]

[name]Thora[/name] [name]Antonella[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]. I like [name]Frida[/name] [name]Leonor[/name] better though.

I like [name]Edith[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] as separated names much. As for combos:
[name]Edith[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name] - fine flow, though I don’t really like the repeating “i”.
[name]Franca[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] - I am not very crazy about [name]Franca[/name] and, again, not very pleasant repeating sounds. [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] or, even better, Frencesca [name]Elinor[/name] is more for my liking but I guess it’s not something you are going for.
[name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] - the name flows fine but [name]Frida[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] have so different styles! [name]Frida[/name] is more strong [name]Roman[/name] while [name]Eleanor[/name] is vintage classic. Maybe [name]Frederika[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Frida[/name] [name]Helen[/name]?
[name]Thora[/name] [name]Antonella[/name] - just not my style but the name sounds very pretty. I would prefer [name]Theodora[/name] though but it’s just me.

[name]Franca[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] to me is beautiful. It has an elegance and sophistication to it, but I can also see the name [name]Franca[/name] (maybe even nicknamed [name]Frankie[/name] - one of my favorite nicknames ever - on a small child).

I like [name]Edith[/name] as a close second, though for some reason [name]Mirabelle[/name] is not my style at all. I love the nickname [name]Edie[/name]!

I dig [name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]. I mean, [name]Frida[/name], as in, [name]Kahlo[/name], and all the history of [name]Eleanor[/name]… where can you go wrong? Plus it sounds good.

Pretty A-Okay in my books.

The rest pale in comparison for me…

[name]Edith[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name] is absolutely gorgeous! Though I would prefer [name]Edith[/name] [name]Mirabel[/name].

[name]Franca[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] is also lovely, but I do prefer [name]Frances[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name].

[name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] is once again, lovely.

[name]Thora[/name] [name]Antonella[/name] is nice enough, I’m just not a fan of [name]Antonella[/name].

I love [name]Thora[/name]!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Edith[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name] nn [name]Edie[/name]. Great name!
My second choice would be [name]Thora[/name], although I’m not nuts about [name]Thora[/name] [name]Antonella[/name].

Ooh [name]Franca[/name]! I adore [name]Frida[/name] too, but [name]Franca[/name] is an unusual one. [name]Thora[/name] is too lispy for me. [name]Edith[/name] is scrumptious, but I wouldn’t call it a strong name… dignified absolutely. [name]Edie[/name] always makes me think of [name]Edith[/name] Bunker. :-/

[name]Franca[/name] [name]Leonor[/name]. [name]Eleanor[/name] has great history, but I find it frumpy. [name]Leonor[/name] is basically the same name, but more in keeping with [name]Franca[/name]'s Italian sophistication.

[name]Frida[/name] [name]Tove[/name] ([name]Tove[/name] from [name]Thora[/name]. Crisp.)

for FN’s I love [name]Frieda[/name] (I prefer this spelling because it’s closer to the [name]German[/name] word for peace, Friede), and [name]Edith[/name]. I also really like [name]Theodora[/name] nn [name]Thora[/name] but don’t love [name]Thora[/name] on it’s own.

for MN’s I think [name]Mirabel[/name] (this spelling), [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Antonella[/name] are all pretty fetch.

I don’t love your combos. I agree with pp’s that the flows are find but not great.
[name]Frieda[/name] [name]Antonella[/name], [name]Theodora[/name] [name]Mirabel[/name] and [name]Edith[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] would be my combo picks. (I know people have issues with -a A- but I think it works here).

Also I think E is a really cute nn for and E- name.

[name]Love[/name] love love [name]Thora[/name]!!!

I think they are all lovely choices but I really love [name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]! They are two of my favourite names at the moment!

I too think [name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] the most inspired. I like [name]Franca[/name] very much too, but am less sure [name]Eleanor[/name] is the right mn.; Maybe [name]Franca[/name] [name]Lenore[/name]? [name]Thora[/name] isn’t my style, and while [name]Edit[/name] is great, I have to second those who don’t like it with the mn you’ve chosen.

And it’s going through a little trendy phase, righ?. I think you are much less likely to meet another [name]Frida[/name] or [name]Franca[/name] than another [name]Edie[/name]–if that’s important to you.

[name]Both[/name] will grow up nicely too. [name]Edie[/name] can be cutesy, and [name]Edith[/name] frumpy (until it fully sheds its old image a grows a new one). Whereas [name]Frida[/name] and [name]Franca[/name] are ageless.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Franca[/name] and [name]Thora[/name].
The suggestion of [name]Franca[/name] [name]Lenore[/name] is divine!
Perhaps [name]Thora[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name]?
Good luck

thank you for all the feedback! It’s very interesting to hear everyone’s opinions on the names. I really love all of them, but you are right about some of the combinations not being perfect. However, I chose [name]Eleanor[/name] because I love the name and the history, so I probably wouldn’t change it to a similar name. But I definitely have some things to think about. Such a tough choice!

I love the combo [name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] but I prefer the spelling [name]Frieda[/name].

I also like [name]Edith[/name] as a fn.

[name]Edith[/name] “[name]Edie[/name]” [name]Mirabelle[/name] - [name]Edith[/name] is a great choice for what you are looking for but [name]Mirabelle[/name] seems to frilly with it. Personally, I would consider [name]Eleanor[/name] as the middle name here as [name]Eleanor[/name] is very strong and the the EE initials make think of theoretical ee Cummings. [name]Edith[/name] with a different middle is my first choice on your list.

[name]Franca[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] - [name]Franca[/name] sounds very harsh and strict to me. It comes across as mean not strong.

[name]Frida[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] - [name]Frida[/name] sounds softer than [name]Franca[/name] but strong as well. This would be my second choice on your list. (First choice if you stick with [name]Mirabelle[/name] as a mn for [name]Edith[/name].

[name]Thora[/name] [name]Antonella[/name]- I immediately thought of thorax and thoracotomy so [name]Thora[/name] doesn’t work for me.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Thora[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]?? Sounds like perfection to me…
