Looking for names for my second son, and we were talking about using my maiden name, Title. I know, it’s a little odd. Our last name is [name_m]Declan[/name_m], and I feel like although it is an odd first name, it kinda flows.
We named our first son [name_m]Carver[/name_m] (after my husband), and wanted to do something with my name as well.
So, opinions on the name Title [name_m]Declan[/name_m]? And any middle name ideas?
Normally I like a word name, and I understand this was your maiden surname which is a little different too, but this one I’m struggling with.
I think as a first name, people will think of it as a word first and not as a possible surname-name. And when you think of the word title, it’s merely a precursor to the name of a thing, or accreditation of a thing, or rank of a thing.
It reminds me a little bit of [name_m]Odysseus[/name_m] in the Odyssey when the Cyclops asks him his name and he tells him it’s “no one.”
In this case naming a child Title feels a bit like giving them no name.
Are there any other family names from your side you would consider, maybe a variant of your first or middle that could be used? Or a name with a similar sound to Title?
I’ll be honest, I can’t exactly imagine Title as a name, or on a real person. I agree with the previous poster that, in a sense, it feels like giving him no name. You could use it as a middle name if it’s important to you to honor your maiden name.
If you like the sound, what about the similar [name_m]Titus[/name_m]/[name_m]Titan[/name_m]? Or if you want to keep the -tle ending Thistle, [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] or [name_m]Birtle[/name_m]. Or maybe you could use just [name_u]Tai[/name_u].
Unfortunately not all surnames work as first names. I don’t think Title works and believe it would cause a lot of confusion. I would look for another name to honor your side of the family. Good luck.
Title doesn’t work as a first. I would move it to the middle.
Some words can work as names but Title isn’t one of them. It would make an interesting middle, but is not suitable for a first name. What about a name similar to Title like [name_m]Titus[/name_m]?
I don’t think Title works a first name either. Also, the first three letters have teasing potential. I would put it in the middle name spot.
I think if you really want to use it, it should go in the middle spot. Like pps said, it’s like not giving him at all.I
Sorry, it doesn’t work for me. Maybe middle name?
Sadly I have to agree with the others. [name_m]Carver[/name_m] works because it sounds like a last name or profession turned into first name (like [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]). Title doesn’t have that name quality. The confusion is added to by your last name ([name_m]Declan[/name_m]) being a common first name. I’m sorry but I would not use it as a first name and instead move it to the middle name position. What other names have you considered?
If you are set on using it I would make it a middle name. I understand the sentiment but I really don’t think it works as a name. Perhaps a masculinisation of your name would be a better tribute? As you haven’t put your name in your signature I’ll demonstrate with my own - [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] could lead me to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or even [name_m]Etienne[/name_m].
More than a little odd [name_f]IMO[/name_f]…I think it does not work as a first at all, and would probably result in teasing and lots of people asking for him to say his name again when introduced. I think it would work far better as a middle name.
What about:
[name_m]Titus[/name_m]
[name_m]Titan[/name_m]
[name_m]Timon[/name_m]
[name_u]Tyson[/name_u]
[name_m]Tyrone[/name_m]
[name_m]Tanner[/name_m]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]
What about [name_m]John[/name_m] Title [name_m]Declan[/name_m] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Title [name_m]Declan[/name_m] call him Title?
You never think a name will work until you meet someone with that name and then it becomes completely normal.
I’m not sure whether I think title would work as a first but maybe a second
Or maybe find a name similar in Look or meaning to Title
