This is a name my husband really likes for a girl. He likes that it means lucky (we are extremely lucky and grateful to be expecting!) and he thinks it’s cute and spunky. He saw ‘[name_f]Flick[/name_f]’ as a nickname for it from this board, and it appeals to him, he likes nicknames like [name_f]Dot[/name_f], etc.
It’s not really on trend at all, and he knows that. He also rejects [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicienne[/name_f], which I suggested instead.
I think for me it suggests names that aren’t popular but aren’t antique feeling - [name_f]Gillian[/name_f], [name_f]Katrina[/name_f]/[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]?
What do you think of [name_f]Felicia[/name_f], and what do you think goes with it? I’m just curious if you consider it usable.
So I think [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] is lovely (though I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]), but as someone who works with a lot of teenagers and early 20s-somethings, all I can think of is the viral #ByeFelicia thing (where being dismissed as a [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] was not complimentary…). I think this was a flash in the pan thing that is already fading, but I just wanted to throw it out as a facet to [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] in 2017
I actually wonder why [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] is not more popular. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is the general favourite, but I expect [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] to be not so far behind. Weirdly I rarely find it mentioned here at all.
For what it’s worth, yes, it is very usable. I know at least two people named [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] and I always think it’s a lovely name. I would probably consider it myself if only [name_m]Felix[/name_m] isn’t one of my top choices for a boy.
[name_m]How[/name_m] are you pronouncing [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]? I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it when pronounced Feh-lee-see-yuh, the more traditional, Spanish pronunciation. I don’t like it as well when pronounced Feh-leesh-a, which also makes me think of the “Bye [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]” meme. However, that is just my personal preference. I still think it is cute and usable, either way.
I think it’s a really pretty name, but it does make me think of the “Bye [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]” thing everyone says. It’s up to you whether that reference will bother you or not though!
I like it way more than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and I think it’s very pretty, but only if pronounced feh-lee-see-ah and not feh-lee-sha
The “Bye [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]” meme is pretty much dead anyway and no little kids would know it
I do like [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] (especially since it peaked in the 80s like the rest of my list!), however, all it makes me think of is “bye [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]” as it’s something my friends and I say to one another when one of us has a ridiculous idea, or when we’re talking about getting someone we dislike out of our lives "ie; when talking about an ex boyfriend we are no longer with, we’d say “bye [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]!!” to him).
It’s probably not going to be an issue when your daughter is in school though, so I wouldn’t necessarily rule it out because of that.
I can’t get past the “bye [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]” meme. Although the meme itself is dead, whenever I see or hear of [name_f]Felicia[/name_f], it’s just all meme to me(me).
I went to high school with a girl [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] (who pronounced it Fuh-lish-ee-ah), and all the boys teased her and asked her to perform a certain act that her name sounded like. That’s all I think of when I see the name, sorry.
[name_f]Felicia[/name_f] seems usable. I know a woman in her late 20’s named [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]. Never met another one.
Personally, I’m not wild about the sound (I can’t help but hear fellatio) and I too prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (nice sound, delicate and happy name), but it sounds as though that is out.
Maybe [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]? Though I much prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f] itself.
I would not go with the name myself, but there is nothing wrong with someone else doing so, provided you really do end up loving it.
The only one I ever knew was named after her father ([name_m]Felix[/name_m]). Called Fil-ee-sha.
It made me think of [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f], which made me think of [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Middleton who is called [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] which I think is adorable.
After reading all the comments, I’d definitely switch to [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]!
[name_f]Felicia[/name_f] actually derives from the Latin root for “happy” not lucky, and I’m sure you’re feeling happy about the baby too! But I always hear fellatio, too. [name_f]Happy[/name_f] for some, I’m sure, but certainly not for a young lady being relentlessly teased by immature boys.
