Felicity or Quinn?

We are expecting baby #3 and are 99% certain it’s a girl after our ultrasound. The names [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] seem to have floated to the top of our working list; fyi, we have a one-syllable starts with M last name (rhymes with door!). I’m a bit concerned about a one-syllable first name given that fact, but DH’s favorite nickname is [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], which I think we could reasonably get from [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].

So, which goes better in our sibset?

[name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]

For [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], I think we’d use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or Quinnie as a nn; for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], if anything I’m leaning [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as I’m not a huge fan of the “iss” sound ala Fliss or Lissy. Our [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] goes by “Mere” quite often. Thoughts?

I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and she could still go by [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

[name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] are a bit matchy so I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] nn [name_f]Flick[/name_f] is a better choice. I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] matches the vintage charm of [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] much more than [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].

I agree with mischa, [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] flows much better as a sibset. Also the nn [name_f]Flick[/name_f] is really cute.

Ooh. Tough choice as [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is my favorite name of these two names … But I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] works better with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], than [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] does.

I hadn’t considered using [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]! [name_m]Will[/name_m] have to think on that one. DH prefers [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], so maybe it’s a good compromise!

I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], personally ([name_f]LOVE[/name_f] it! I like the nns [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] and Litty/Liddy for it), but I think stylistically [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] (how adorable! [name_m]How[/name_m] have I never thought of that?!) works very well, too–since [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] is technically unisex, and it fits with the Gaelic sort of vibe that [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] has. I love the suggestion of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] (I was thinking of it myself!), but I also like [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]–and I feel like if you’re going to use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as a nn (which is just darling, even if I prefer [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] as a middle), then you should probably use [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] up front. My favorite is [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], but I think both work really well with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], so I could easily be persuaded to go the other way.

Good luck!

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] all the way. I think it’d be weird to have one daughter with a unisex name and one without, plus [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] has some of the cutest nn options ever–[name_u]Fee[/name_u], [name_f]Flick[/name_f], [name_f]Cricket[/name_f]…

I suppose we could go [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] too! The reason I tend to lean towards [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is I like a longer given name with our short surname. But if we use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], then [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] should probably be in the first slot. Why is naming babies so hard?!

I would have to pick [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. It has a lovely ring to it and matches well with your sibset! [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], to be honest, isn’t a name I’m too hot on for a girl. Maybe you could make [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] her middle name? Some other options with this:

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] – Could have the [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] nickname and keep the vintage style of your sibset!
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps you out!

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] for sure! [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is just perfect. Other [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] nicknames:
[name_f]Flick[/name_f]
[name_f]Flossie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elle[/name_f]/Felle
[name_u]Fee[/name_u]
Best of luck!

Another vote for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] with a one syllable surname isn’t as pleasing as a longer name would be. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] does technically work since [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] is unisex but [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] sounds better with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] feels too modern, although it does work with [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] ( a bit matchy though with the ending) I’d assume [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] were the boys and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] the girl.

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] M-(door) is perfection! I’d totally go with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! You can still nickname her [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]! And [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] matches so nicely with Mere and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. Mere, [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]… perfection.

I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] with the nickname Liddy!

[name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is the best fit stylistically with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], but in general I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] over [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].

I wouldn’t be sure if [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] was a boy or girl with siblings [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. A trio of kids named [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], I would think were two girls and a boy. Something to take into consideration, that’s totally your call.

Another thing to consider is whether [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] M(oor) sounds like two names or runs into just one. I think it sounds a bit like one, two-syllable name, because there isn’t a huge sound distinction between the N and M. That would bother me, but I’m really picky.

I do think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] would be a darling full name, and I think you could still use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as a nn if you wanted to.

Best wishes!

Thanks for all the input! Liddy is a nn I hadn’t considered for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]–could grow on me! I think the obstacle is that I really do love the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], so I struggle with placing [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] in the second spot if we’d just call her that anyway, kwim? But I’m in total agreement with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] flowing much better with our short last name… In my mind regarding name order, I guess it comes down to would the full name win out ([name_f]Felicity[/name_f]) or would we tend towards using a nn instead ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f]) thus putting [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] first?

Incidentally, I wonder if the b/g differentiation when it comes to [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is regional? Up here, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a male [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. To be honest, I’ve never actually MET a child named [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] either, so though I know it’s more popular on the charts than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], it’s not mainstream in our area. That said, I don’t mind the androgynous feel; another favorite of mine for a girl is [name_u]Reeve[/name_u] after reading a book about the [name_m]Lindbergh[/name_m] family; I know that’s pretty solidly male usage, but I’d totally use it on a girl paired with a feminine mn if hubby was onboard (he’s not). [name_u]Reeve[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is my secret favorite. I guess [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], androgynous paired with feminine mn, is in the same vein.

Lots of food for thought. Thanks again, Berries!
