Felicity vs Fiona

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

DH has his mind set on [name_f]Marie[/name_f] for a middle name if we have a girl. Many women in my family share [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as a middle name including my mom and I. DH’s sister and mother also share it. He originally wanted it as a first name but I actually have negative associations with it as a first and pronounce it funny apparently (I say MUR-rie instead of MUH-rie…oops). Anyway, I’m not totally against it as a middle name but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I don’t like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as much, and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my mothers name. If he is set on it, then [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] would be my contender. The meaning of [name_f]Marie[/name_f] also hold me back a little, where DH doesn’t care about meanings at all. I love both names and would honestly hope we have two girls eventually so I can use both names! If we have a boy it will be [name_u]James[/name_u]. DH is [name_u]James[/name_u], as is his father and so on so forth. They go by their middles.

I would like feedback on both names:

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (meaning fair, white, bitter)
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (meaning happy, good fortune, god is gracious)

Other names I would consider:
[name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Demi[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Hanna[/name_f], [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Monica[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Vianne[/name_f]

Thanks for any input!

I’m honestly not huge on [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]'s sound the way you pronounce [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. I’ve always pronounced it as mah-[name_f]REE[/name_f] since it’s [name_m]French[/name_m] and I think that pronunciation would sound better here since both names are two syllables.
I love how [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] sounds! I usually dislike [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as a middle name but it does sound lovely here.
Would you consider a variation of [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or a similar-sounding name as an honor name? [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_f]Mariah[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_u]Marion[/name_u], [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f], [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], [name_f]Martine[/name_f], [name_f]Martina[/name_f], Marigold, Mariana for example.
From your list I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] and [name_f]Vianne[/name_f]

Thank you for your input! I don’t like how I say [name_f]Marie[/name_f] either, sounds like [name_u]Murray[/name_u] or something. I have been working on saying it the correct, french way and not slurring it so much. I don’t like many [name_f]Marie[/name_f] substitutes, sadly. Good idea though! I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] but it is a little too different for DH. I don’t consider [name_f]Freya[/name_f] weird but he does.

I’m not sure how you say [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (or others say [name_f]Marie[/name_f]) as your OP isn’t clear? Not sure either what is meant by pp about both names ([name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f]?) having two syllables, for me [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] has 3? I prefer [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as I am just not so keen on either [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] or [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is very sweet.

I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! You could always do [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] if you don’t like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
