Hubby and I just found out we’re having a little girl! We’re due in Feb. We started thinking of names and thought of the name [name]Ava[/name]. I was kind of turned off how popular it was, so we tried to think of other names but we keep coming back to ‘[name]Ava[/name]’! I think we are in love! My name is [name]Jennifer[/name] – so I know what it’s like to have a common name and it’s not all that bad. In high school I went through a stage where I wished so bad my name was unique and changed my name to ‘[name]Jenn[/name]’ just to be different. It turned out, as an adult, I hated the name ‘[name]Jenn[/name]’ and regretted my rebellious stage. It turns out I really like ‘[name]Jen[/name]’ and ‘[name]Jennifer[/name]’! When I was little I went by [name]Jenny[/name] and just loved that too!
At the same time, we want a name that is strong but unique for our little girl, but we can’t seem to shake off ‘[name]Ava[/name]’ even though it is so popular. Thoughts?
For a middle name, I really like [name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. YES, I know, TRENDY, but it’s so hard when you’re in love! :???:
If you love it- then use it. That is all that matters. Her name won’t make her unique- SHE already is unique. Use it. [name]Rock[/name] it. [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is a beautiful name. I tried not to use a popular name for my son and now I am seeing his name EVERYWHERE! You cannot win. So I say go for it if you love it!!
rubymoon is right! You gotta go with what you love! You could go with [name]Avalon[/name] and call her [name]Ava[/name] for short, if you want to try to give her something a little less trendy and with different options, i.e. [name]Ava[/name] or Avvy.
If you keep coming back to it, GO FOR IT! So many popular names today are very classic and pretty, I’m not sure I’d label [name]Ava[/name] (or [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Mia[/name], etc…) as trendy, sure it’s in the top 10, but really, so what. It’s a beautiful name. Plus the [name]Ava[/name] [name]Gardner[/name] connection is a nice perk.
[name]Eva[/name] is only slightly less popular and has a different feel to it, for me at least. I suppose there are some “different” feeling extensions…I’ve met a little Avielle and a [name]Aveline[/name], or [name]Avis[/name] or [name]Ada[/name], but if you love [name]AVA[/name]…I think it’s a perfectly lovely name and I hope you use it!
While [name]Ava[/name] is incredibly popular I wouldn’t classify it as trendy. [name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is classic, it just happens to be compromised of two popular names at the time.
And to that end- in 1980, 3.3% of all baby girls were called [name]Jennifer[/name]. In 2011, 0.8% of all baby girls were called [name]Ava[/name]- not even close to the same level of popularity!
But if you’re hesitating and still looking for possible alternatives, then [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Zara[/name], [name]Nina[/name], [name]Lena[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Nova[/name], [name]Romy[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Neve[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Esme[/name], [name]Leta[/name], and [name]Nola[/name] all have the pizzazz of [name]Ava[/name] (and a little less of the popularity :)).
If that’s what you love then use it but be prepared for her to be sharing her name with a fair few other girls around her. If I loved a name so much then popularity wouldn’t get in the way but I’d love for a more uncommon middle name just to give her some options as she gets older. If she gets tired of being [name]Ava[/name], she may want to use her middle name but something like [name]Grace[/name] isn’t going to help her.
Maybe you could use 2 middle names, e.g. [name]Ava[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Grace[/name]?
I would rather be named [name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name] any day than a lot of the other unique names people are coming up with to be a step cooler than the mother next door to them. If you keep going back to the same name, use it. I think you would seriously regret not using it because you seem to love it so much. I have seen name regret and it isn’t fun.
Like someone else said, she will be your [name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name] and that is the most important thing. Sure, a lot of people will say that neither of the names are unique, but they are both cute and she could go by [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Gracie[/name] if she doesn’t like [name]Ava[/name]. I don’t see anything wrong with going by the first name [name]Grace[/name]. I think it is cute.
[name]Just[/name] because something is popular, doesn’t mean it is bad. Names are popular for a reason. [name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is a beautiful name. Classic, easily pronounced, not confusing, sweet-- name perfection. I do not know a single [name]Ava[/name]… (I do know an [name]Eva[/name]… not sure if that counts) If you love the name, use it. At the end, she will be YOUR little [name]Ava[/name]- no one else like her.
[name]Ava[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is pretty and if you really love it and don’t have a problem with how popular it is then use it!
Personally I wouldn’t do it, my name’s [name]Jessica[/name] and I’ve always hated having such a popular name and wouldn’t want to do that with any of my kids. I hate seeing/hearing my name everywhere! It makes it seem less “special” in my opinion. I know how you feel though, I love the names [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name] but they’re soo popular/trendy that I don’t think I could bring myself to use them(at least not as the fn).
It’s so pretty! If you love a name, you should use it. Having a unique name is overrated, I hated it when I was little. [name]Ava[/name] is beautiful and classic!
