Help! My Papa’s name was [name_m]Floyd[/name_m] and he was very special to me. We are having a baby girl in about a month and I would love to find a more feminine version of ‘[name_m]Floyd[/name_m]’ for her name. I know people are treating [name_m]Floyd[/name_m] as unisex but I just can’t see it as a girls name! Thanks
Unfortunately there aren’t that many names meaning “grey-haired”
You still have a few options -
- Name her [name_f]Florence[/name_f] , [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_u]Florentine[/name_u] nn [name_f]Flo[/name_f] to match the first three letters.
- Put [name_m]Floyd[/name_m] in the middle spot with a girlier name eg. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_m]Floyd[/name_m].
- Look to his hobbies and life for inspiration eg. [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] if he was into boating.
- If all else fails leave [name_m]Floyd[/name_m] for another child (though I’m guessing you don’t want to do that).
I like the idea of using [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. You could use a middle name that starts with D if that would strengthen the connection for you.
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_u]Floy[/name_u] is a name, and you could pair that with [name_f]Delia[/name_f] or [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] like PP said.
If not, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] are cool, too.
I would definitely use [name_f]Flora[/name_f] to honor [name_m]Floyd[/name_m].
I just want to hop on the [name_f]Florence[/name_f] train! I think it is perfect.
This may be a little too much of a stretch, but hear me out. If you remove the F & the O from [name_m]Floyd[/name_m], you get Lyd, and from that you can get [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].
I’ve seen [name_u]Floy[/name_u] on older women.
I like the idea of using [name_f]Florence[/name_f] or a variation ([name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Flossie[/name_f], [name_u]Florentine[/name_u]) or using [name_m]Floyd[/name_m]/[name_u]Floy[/name_u] as a middle. What was his middle name? Is that more usable/does it have more feminine variations?
I would either do [name_m]Floyd[/name_m] as a middle name, or go with [name_f]Florence[/name_f] or [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
There’s also [name_f]Fleda[/name_f] and [name_f]Flory[/name_f], the latter being a nice choice in my opinion, and only missing the D from [name_m]Floyd[/name_m].
[name_f]Flory[/name_f] would be my first choice, followed by [name_f]Flora[/name_f]!
Liadan means grey lady, Liadan [name_m]Foy[/name_m] would make a nice name that’s that’s in the same wheel house. Loida is also a perfectly good substitute.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
