[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [FURN] is from the Old [name_f]English[/name_f] word fearn meaning “fern”. This beautiful plant has a rich history of symbolic use. Many cultures consider them a sign of good luck, protection, and hidden wisdom. In the language of flowers, ferns symbolize magic, fascination, and the secret bonds of love.
For me, [name_f]Fern[/name_f] will forever be tied to the spunky [name_f]Fern[/name_f] Arable from E.B. White’s Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m] and her love of nature and animals.
It is a sweet, unassuming name with evident ties to nature. I find it to be very bright and cheerful. The problem now is I have an overabundance of [name_f]Fern[/name_f] combos and am struggling to narrow down my list much more than I have!
What do you think of [name_f]Fern[/name_f]? Which, if any, of the combos below do you like?
I also love the name [name_f]Fern[/name_f]! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] & [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
I love the [name_f]Fern[/name_f] from Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m] too and the character [name_f]Fern[/name_f] from the [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] animated show on PBS .
It’s on my list too. I like that’s it’s short and sturdy but unlike most of my list, [name_f]Fern[/name_f] has always felt a touch bohemian to me.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] seemed very familar to me and then I realised that’s because it’s on my own list.
Other combinations that stand out to me:
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - Like [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], this feels both homespun and spirited. I like the repeated ‘f’ sounds.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] - [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] brings out the bohemian side of [name_f]Fern[/name_f] and feels a bit edgy.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is another favourite of mine and I especially love the look of this combination. The ‘f’ and ‘th’ sounds are great together too.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f] - Feels fresh and effortless and I enjoy the contrast of [name_f]Fern[/name_f] with the light, lilting sound of [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
I absolutely love [name_f]Fern[/name_f] she’s such a pretty nature name with a bohemian flair that feels understated and sweet. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is beautiful. I have [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Effie[/name_f] Lockhart on my list (Effie & Lockhart being family names) and I do love her tons.
I love the sound of the ‘a’ with [name_f]Fern[/name_f] names I think the overall sound is so elegant and provides a melodic sound. Regarding [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] I love the elegance of the choice in the middle spot
I sorted the combos into 3 buckets! I like so many.
Best
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - I just love all the vowels of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] next to [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] - [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] has just been feeling so fresh to me!
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f] - agree with pp about Emily’s brightness next to [name_f]Fern[/name_f]!
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] - Has the same brightness as [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - I like the idea of [name_f]Fern[/name_f] from (Charlotte’s Web) and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (from Matilda) together. Makes me smile.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - no reason, just makes me smile
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Winona[/name_f] - I feel like 3 syllables might be the perfect length for a middle name for [name_f]Fern[/name_f], but depends on last name!
Good (note: Most of these could be in the love section, just for one reason or another didn’t sing to me):
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (I just prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] to Beatrix)
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - I like, I just don’t love
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] - same note as [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (just [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] instead), I just don’t looooove [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] - I like the rhythm of this!
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - this would be a love, but [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is just soooo popular
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] - A gorgeous combo, I just find [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] a mouthful.
Eliminate
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Aubery[/name_f] - the names run together to my ears like “fernaubrey”
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - same reason as [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Aubrey[/name_f], but runs together slightly less
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - a bit clunky for my tasks
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Evelyn[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Evelyn[/name_f], but it just feels a bit dull next to [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] - I just don’t like [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] - the sound or the meaning “Heavy”.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] - I like the idea of [name_f]Fern[/name_f] paired with something more common, [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] just feels like a lot to me and doesn’t feel “pretty”.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Meredith[/name_f] - I had this in good, but changed my mind.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] - I don’t think Patricia’s ready to come back (for me)
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] - don’t like repeating n ending
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] - Too many plants here
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Sibylla[/name_f] - I’m not ready for [name_f]Sibylla[/name_f] yet, sorry!
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] - [name_f]Fern[/name_f] sounds too similar to [name_m]Fred[/name_m], I would stick with [name_f]Winona[/name_f]!
