Husband and I have a decent list of names going, but we’re wondering if our front-runner sounds off with our last name. Help us narrow down! (There will likely be a middle name, but since most of her life she’ll be addressed by first and last we want to make sure that sounds great.)
[name_f]Selma[/name_f] [name_m]Purcell[/name_m] does sound odd but couldn’t say why. I would strike [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_m]Purcell[/name_m] off too. [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], and [name_u]Simone[/name_u] are my favorites.
I think [name_f]Selma[/name_f] [name_m]Purcell[/name_m] sounds off because it repeats the “Sel” sound, which is there at the beginning and end of the full name. In such a short name it’s noticeable that the same specific sound is in two out of the total four syllables. I think the name does have a kind of ring to it though, so it may be catchy enough to pull off. But personally I think this would be a deal breaker for me :(.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] is my favorite from your list!
If the double “sel” sound is a deal breaker for you, maybe you’d like [name_f]Alma[/name_f]?
Personally, my favorite from your list is [name_u]Simone[/name_u]. [name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_m]Purcell[/name_m] is the kind of name that really sticks in your head and sounds very sophisticated.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_f]Mina[/name_f] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u] are my favorites - I like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] too but [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is too streched?
I like [name_f]Selma[/name_f], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], and [name_f]Macy[/name_f]. I think they fit fine with your last name, I wouldn’t be worried about it.
[name_f]Selma[/name_f] is a lovely name but sorry to say with your last name it sounds like a cartoon character to me. [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], also lovely, not ideal with your last name either. [name_u]Simone[/name_u] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] are my favorites. Good luck.
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f] are my favorite options with your last name. I adore [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] in general and with your surname. I think [name_f]Macy[/name_f] also works well with your last name, but [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f] are my top favorites.
Unfortunately I don’t think [name_f]Selma[/name_f] works great with your last name. Although, if you can’t imagine calling her anything else, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. It’s a little sing-songy. [name_u]Simone[/name_u], on the other hand, is simply stunning. I’d try hard to fall in love with it
[name_f]Selma[/name_f] [name_m]Purcell[/name_m] sounds like a mouthful due to the repeated “sel” sound, as others have mentioned. [name_f]IMO[/name_f], [name_f]Macy[/name_f] [name_m]Purcell[/name_m] flows the best.
I actually think [name_f]Selma[/name_f] [name_m]Purcell[/name_m] is fine. If you love the name [name_f]Selma[/name_f], then you should go for it. I don’t hear any similarity between [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_f]Selma[/name_f] (if that is what you are asking) I think they are great together.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_f]Selma[/name_f] and while I do think the repeated “Sel” sounds aren’t the greatest together if you really love it I don’t think it’ll be that big of a problem. If it does prove to bother you too much, I think [name_u]Simone[/name_u] or [name_f]Mina[/name_f] are equally lovely.
