Fia! I'm smitten, but need a formal

Hubby says he would like Fia as a nn, but not a given name. I know he won’t like Fiametta and I don’t like [name]Sophia[/name]. I’m thinking [name]Fiona[/name] might be our best bet, but maybe you Berries have some other great ideas I haven’t considered. Thanks!

I don’t know how I’ve missed [name]Fia[/name] this long since it’s listed here at NB, but I came across it for the first time yesterday while browsing at NordicNames.de . I think it’s just so cute I can hardly stand it – and I hardly [name]EVER[/name] crush on girl names so this is really notable for me!

[name]Seraphina[/name] is the only one I can think of

I think [name]Fiona[/name] is adorable! Maybe you’d like [name]Seraphina[/name]? [name]Delphia[/name]? [name]Falicia[/name]? That’s all I can think of at the moment…good luck! [name]Fia[/name] is wonderful =)

[name]Fia[/name] is darling, and [name]Fiora[/name] might be a great FN option for you.

I was going to suggest [name]Sofia[/name] when I saw the title, because I have a new baby in my room at work named [name]Sofia[/name] and all of the toddlers call her [name]Fia[/name]. It’s really cute. But anyway, then I saw the rest of your post. I love [name]Fiona[/name], so that gets my vote!

haha, [name]Fiammetta[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] were my first thoughts. I have a friend with a little [name]Sophia[/name] “[name]Fia[/name]”–I think it’s great. She hated [name]Sophie[/name], and [name]Sophia[/name] was a huge compromise on her part, so I’m happy she at least gets [name]Fia[/name], which she really likes.

[name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Serafina[/name] are great suggestions, I think–what about [name]Fiora[/name]? I’ve never really been able to get behind [name]Fiona[/name] 100%, but I adore [name]Fiora[/name]! I think [name]Fiorella[/name] is great, too, for [name]Fia[/name]. Or even [name]Fio[/name]. I think [name]Fio[/name] is pretty awesome, myself! Maybe even [name]Flora[/name] “[name]Fia[/name]”?

I like [name]Fiona[/name] and Serephina, too! What about:

[name]Philomena[/name]
[name]Phoenix[/name]
[name]Rufina[/name]

Despite my signature (heh) [name]Fiona[/name] nn [name]Fia[/name] is on our short list if this baby is a girl. Top 5, def. I hadn’t heard of [name]Fia[/name] either until I saw it on NB.

[name]Fiona[/name] works best for me b/c my husband likes it and he would never go for [name]Fiammetta[/name] in a million years. I do like it, tho, and I think it could work for [name]Serafina[/name]/[name]Serafina[/name] and even [name]Josephine[/name] as well.

A name I [name]LOVE[/name] is Fiala. It’s a Czech name that means “violet”. I think it’s great!

Och, Fiala! [name]How[/name] could I forget that? And @saracita00–how amazing would [name]Eve[/name] and Fiala be as sisters?!

Another lover of [name]Fia[/name] here!! It was my number 1 choice for girls for ages.

We were intending to use it as a full name… but I can understand it might be a bit nicknamey for some… also with our accent (Australian) it sounds a bit too much like “fear” when said out loud… I only mention that because I never noticed that until my good old Mum pointed it out… thanks Mum.
But then we ended up having a boy anyway!

I also love the full name options of [name]Fiora[/name]!

[name]Fiore[/name] is also lovely and has the same meaning

Or for something different there is Finna or [name]Fina[/name]

[name]Phoebe[/name]?
[name]Ophelia[/name]?

Did you happen to see this posting - http://waltzingmorethanmatilda.com/2013/06/05/famous-name-fia/ - over at waltzingmorethanmatilda?

Good luck choosing a more formal name! [name]Fia[/name] is a lovely choice.

EEEEK! Fiala! That’s adorable. It would totally fit with the other siblings, and the meaning is cute too.

Thanks for the Waltzing More than [name]Matilda[/name] link, and all these other great ideas! I like [name]Seraphina[/name] but I’m [name]Sarah[/name] and I thought it would be sort of a weird naming-after-but-elaborating kind of thing. [name]Fia[/name] would sure help that situation though. I must run tonight but I have some reading to look forward to when I have my coffee in the morning! Thanks Berries!

Fiala is gorgeous!

I personally love Fioralba, and I know a woman named [name]Fiorella[/name], which I think would work, too.

[name]Fia[/name] is adorable! So many great suggestions here and Fiala is beautiful. I just wanted to add [name]Fiamma[/name].

[name]Fiamma[/name], Fiera, [name]Fionnuala[/name]

I’m back! And I’m having a grand time reading up on the article and following leads on these other names posted. Thanks again, Berries! I’m going to centralize all the suggestions and thoughts on each here (and I added a full list of suggestions to the first page)

[name]Delphia[/name] - I like it in theory but I’m not really into the “dolphin” thing

[name]Falicia[/name] - This one is is a pretty “mainstream” idea…runs a chance with DH as [name]Felicia[/name]. I NEVER would have thought of it but it really works!

Fiala - SO cute

[name]Fiammetta[/name] - too frou-frou and besides, DH would never in a million years

[name]Fiamma[/name] - Less fluff is good, but still not quite

[name]Fio[/name] - He’ll say it’s too insubstantial

[name]Fiona[/name] - We both like this one; I’m not so crazy about the Shrek connection and I don’t know if he cares

[name]Fiora[/name] - This one is really growing on me, it’s just so tragic I saw a billboard for a toilet paper brand by this name

Fioralba - Probably too out-there for us

[name]Fiore[/name] - Is this pronounced fee-OH-ree? [name]LOVE[/name]. If it’s fee-OR, it’s ok Does this source look correct? Fiore - Meaning of Fiore, What does Fiore mean? girl name (their pronunciation keys have been off before)

[name]Fiorella[/name] - Hm, a little too [name]Cinderella[/name]

[name]Josephine[/name] - maybe a little too clunky, plus I once had a pet named this, nn [name]Josie[/name]

[name]Ophelia[/name] - too [name]Shakespeare[/name]. What do you want to bet DH would like this one though

[name]Philomena[/name] - It has “mean” in it so no

[name]Phoebe[/name] - this one is tragic, because it has been a longtime fave of DH but he has never brought me around. [name]Fia[/name] as a nn might have done the trick…but he just named a pet this!

[name]Phoenix[/name] - I like this one on boys

[name]Rufina[/name] - Ooh, that’s kind of cool

[name]Seraphina[/name] - I’ve always rather liked this one, even though it’s a bit long and ponderous; nn [name]Fia[/name] makes me like it more

[name]Sophia[/name] - never have liked this very much

And with the above as inspiration, I did some searches for names containing “phi” and “fi” and came up with these to add; maybe they will bring to mind some others for the Berries.
[name]Adelphia[/name]
Daphine
[name]Delphina[/name]
[name]Fianna[/name] (ooh I like this)
[name]Fidelity[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] (I don’t like this at all but I added it for anyone else searching for ideas)
[name]Fionn[/name]
[name]Fionnuala[/name]
[name]Fiorenza[/name] (giggle)
[name]Gelifia[/name]
Iphidia
[name]Pacifica[/name]
[name]Soficita[/name] (lol almost my nn)
[name]Stephanie[/name]
[name]Teofila[/name]
Xilophia
Zilphia

So far my favorites are [name]Fiore[/name] (if it’s actually fee-OR-ee), [name]Fianna[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Seraphina[/name], Fiala, and maybe [name]Adelphia[/name] (contains [name]Adele[/name] + [name]Fia[/name], two favorites, but is it too much like [name]Adolph[/name], or just look like a smoosh?), maybe [name]Felicia[/name], and GP Zilphia & [name]Rufina[/name] (too foreign) and [name]Soficita[/name] (fun, but it sounds pharmaceutical).

As a stretch, possibly [name]Daphne[/name]…DH really likes that one and I can’t get over [name]Daffy[/name], though [name]Fia[/name] would help. It would be nice if he liked [name]Fia[/name]. Too bad! He likes [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Mia[/name], but not enough to actually use and I guess [name]Fia[/name] isn’t improvement, because it’s even less familiar. I like interesting sounds, he likes familiarity.

Thanks for the ideas, Berries! Toss out any more you can think of!

FYI, I know a family with the surname [name]Fiore[/name], and it is definitely pronounced fee-OR-ee. I think I like [name]Fiora[/name] better for a girl…more feminine.
Also like [name]Adelphia[/name], [name]Seraphina[/name]…

No new ideas for you, though. Sorry!

[name]Fianna[/name] would have been my suggestion.
