I’ve been crushing on Fia lately!

I know there are strong opinions about Anglicized spellings of Irish names (and many other cultures), and the correct Irish spelling is Fiadh. But is Fia multicultural enough that this does not apply, or would it be considered insensitive or silly?

I think it’s super multicultural, could definitely be a short form of Sofia or Fiammetta or other names containing -fia-.

I have Fia as a nn for Ofelia on my list (and Phia for Ophelia), so if you’re not sure about using it as a full name, I think there’s also plenty of names out there that Fia could be a nickname for.

I would assume [name_f]Fia[/name_f] is used as a variation of [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]

[name_f]Fia[/name_f] is much better than [name_f]Fiadh[/name_f] if you live in any country outside of [name_f]Ireland[/name_f].

Overall, I like this name, though I do have one slight problem with it. To me, it kind of sounds like someone saying “Thea” who cannot correctly pronounce the “th” sound.

But really, I overall like the name and would vote for [name_f]Fia[/name_f] over [name_f]Fiadh[/name_f].

[name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] is another name that could have [name_f]Fia[/name_f] as a nickname.

I think it’s ok to use in that regard. I just don’t like it because it sounds like (identical, in my accent), fear.

I think it’s multicultural enough! It can be short for [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] most obviously, but also plenty of others and in that way, it feels similar to the likes of [name_f]Tia[/name_f], [name_f]Kia[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f] etc. - versatile diminutives!

Soo beautiful!!! :two_hearts: I have personally only ever known it to be spelt [name_f]Fia[/name_f], that would be how I instinctually spell it. But, I love it!! Sooo beautiful, sweet, fresh and lively. I think it could totally stand on its own for sure.

I love [name_f]Fia[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Fia[/name_f] on its own is nice; I do prefer the [name_m]Irish[/name_m] [name_f]Fiadh[/name_f] and I’m a sucker for a good -dh name (also a massive fan of Eilidh!), but especially with other names with the fia or fee sound like [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], [name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], even [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] or [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f], I think [name_f]Fia[/name_f] is fine. I would more equate [name_f]Fia[/name_f] with something like [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], etc. that’s a diminutive, and just happens to also be a legitimate name in [name_m]Irish[/name_m], spelled [name_f]Fiadh[/name_f]. Either way, [name_f]Fia[/name_f] is a great name; I love how fiery and sweet she is.

[name_f]Fia[/name_f] is fine as a standalone, and lovely!

I know it as a diminutive for [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], which would mean [name_f]Fia[/name_f] would be an authentically spelled shortened version.
