I’m considering renaming my main character for my story. The story is fantasy and the basic plot is that my main character learns she can wield fire magic and because of this new power she tries to save her sister, who was arrested by the queen. My main character is very emotional and hotheaded, so I think a fiery name would suit her for her power and her personality.
Fotis (Male Greek name that has to do with light and fire that sounds futuristic and fun on a girl)
Fotini (female version of fotis but less cool soundin)
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sanna[/name_f]
Rhoswyn
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_u]Wynn[/name_u]
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] (fiery-winged/fiery one)
[name_f]Brandi[/name_f] (fiery beacon)
[name_f]Nicole[/name_f]/[name_u]Nicola[/name_u] with the nickname [name_m]Cole[/name_m] (like coal)
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]
[name_f]Enya[/name_f] (little fire)
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_u]Kendall[/name_u] (like kindle or candle)
[name_f]Endellion[/name_f] (fire soul. Could have “[name_u]Dell[/name_u]” as a nn)
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] (fire)
[name_f]Orinda[/name_f] (fire serpent)
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] (fierce one)
If I can add any more later, then I will. Good luck with your story!
Ardea
[name_f]Calida[/name_f]
[name_m]Chuma[/name_m]
[name_f]Edana[/name_f]
[name_f]Enya[/name_f]
Fiametta
[name_f]Ignatia[/name_f]
Lehava
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Aithne[/name_f]
Alinta
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], as suggested by the above 2 posters. It’s meaning is perfect (fiery-winged/fiery one), and it fits well with the fantasy genre. She could have a nn of [name_f]Sera[/name_f] as well.
Also, [name_f]Ignatia[/name_f] means “fiery.” I think it’s also perfect for the fantasy genre. She could be called [name_u]Nat[/name_u] if you are going for a nickname.
Good luck!
My immediate reaction was [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] (which is funny 'cause I think I’m now the fourth poster to mention it). Not totally sold on it though. It feels too elegant for a hot-headed character, but the name meaning works.
Fiametta / [name_f]Fia[/name_f] could work. I think the harsh “T” sound and its meaning (“little flame” or “little fiery one”) could make for a beautiful yet intense character.
I like Alecto, named after the Greek fury who is basically the embodiment of madness. A bit intense, so it’s kind of an acquired taste, but it’s rarely used (as far as I know) and your character could redeem the name by saving her sister.
I’m absolutely in love with the name [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]. In [name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology, she’s a queen whose hair caught on fire without burning her when she was a child. It was seen as an omen for both her greatness and for the wars that were to plague her people. I like that the relation to fire isn’t totally obvious and can be kind of like an [name_f]Easter[/name_f]-egg for your readers. If it’s too regal for your character, she can use the nicknames [name_u]Vinny[/name_u] or [name_f]Liv[/name_f].
Okay, so if it isn’t clear by now, I’m obsessed with mythology-based names, but I promise this will be the last one: [name_f]Odessa[/name_f], which is a Russian place-name inspired by [name_m]Homer[/name_m]'s Odyssey. It’s close to [name_m]Odysseus[/name_m], the hero whose name comes from the Greek word for rage. [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] could evoke both the heroic side of your character as well as her temper.
Last, but not least, Alinta which is an Australian Aboriginal name for flame or fire. It feels feminine, but not totally girly. It feels like a strong name, like she could be a fighter, but not intimidating. I know the intended pronunciation is “uh-[name_f]LIN[/name_f]-ta” (according to Nameberry, at least) but I like the sound of “[name_m]AH[/name_m]-lin-ta” better, and [name_u]Ali[/name_u] or [name_m]Al[/name_m] could be nice nicknames.
These are just some of my suggestions. I hope they’re somewhat helpful. Good luck with your story!
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f] - Greek goddess of fireside and chastity
[name_f]Brigid[/name_f] - Celtic goddess fo fire
Udia - Hebrew
[name_f]Ethne[/name_f] - Irish
Alev - Turkish means flame
Basis - Czech
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f] - Teutonic
[name_f]Calida[/name_f] - Latin
Celosia
[name_f]Orinda[/name_f] - Teutonic
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f]
[name_f]Vesta[/name_f] - Latin
I also thought of [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] immediately. I don’t have much more to offer, previous posters have done a great job, but I do like these two:
[name_f]Kenna[/name_f]- Comes from [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m], which means “born of fire”
[name_f]Tana[/name_f]- “fire or star goddess”
I think [name_f]Zadie[/name_f] would be fun, it’s a variant of [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], which I saw on a different suggestion. Also, I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Gwen[/name_f].
[name_f]Adara[/name_f] – fire (I’m not sure which language)
Adeen – little fire
[name_f]Aithne[/name_f] – fire
[name_f]Edana[/name_f] – fire
[name_f]Enya[/name_f] – little fire
[name_f]Ignacia[/name_f] – fiery
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] – fiery-winged
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] – burning fire
