Fifi?

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is my DH’s favorite name for another girl.
Our rule is that if a name is 3+ syllables it needs to have a nickname that we like since our 2nd DD (V i v i e n n e) has a 3 syllable name and we use a nickname for it (V i v i).
I like the idea of using another nickname that is repetitive like [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Cece[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] but is [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] useable as a nickname for a child?
Also do you like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] with big sisters L i l l a, V i v i e n n e, and T e s s
Also considering [name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] is adorable on a little girl, though iam not a big fan of [name_f]Delphine[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] would be gorgeous with your sibset, and you can still have the nn [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] if you want.

I’m honestly not a huge fan of those types of nicknames ([name_f]Fifi[/name_f], [name_f]Didi[/name_f], [name_f]CeCe[/name_f], etc.). To me, [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] sounds like a poodle with its nose in the air  that’s probably only my association with it though haha. I think it might be a stretch, though? I was under the impression that [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] was pronounced something like “[name_u]Dell[/name_u]-fine”, but maybe it is “[name_u]Dell[/name_u]-finn-knee”? If that is the case, I don’t think [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] is easy to come across.

I actually really love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] with your sibset. I still think [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] would be a bit of a stretch with that, but it makes more sense to me.

@namergirl3
We pronounce [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_u]Dell[/name_u]-Feen kind of like fiend minus the d at the end.
Feen to fee-fee isn’t a huge stretch. It’s like [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] to [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] to [name_f]Cece[/name_f]
sounds like this.

I totally get the poodle thing which is why I pause on using it for a baby/toddler/child.

I would go with [name_u]Del[/name_u] or [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] for a nickname.

[name_f]Fifi[/name_f] is a dog’s name to me, and an annoying one too
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] seems a little too much with shorter names like [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] so I would definitelly use a nickname
I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_f]Dellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], Elphie/Elphie or even [name_f]Eline[/name_f]

I really like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]!

I don’t like [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] and [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] together. They almost sound the same when said aloud.

I prefer [name_f]Delphi[/name_f]. It makes the most sense and it sounds cute with all your other names.

I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. But no on [name_f]Fifi[/name_f]. It’s too snooty-poodle sounding.
Maybe [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Fia[/name_f]?

Like PP said, [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] sound too similar to me, though I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. I would go with [name_f]Delphi[/name_f], or maybe just Fi/[name_f]Fia[/name_f] a nn?

maybe [name_f]DeDe[/name_f] ([name_f]Deedee[/name_f]) would be better? I agree that [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] sounds kind of silly, like a cartoon poodle.

I think [name_f]Fifi[/name_f]‘s totally wearable, perhaps in part because I’ve actually known one (she was born Fairuz). But I also agree with other’s that it’s far too close to [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] to work for a sibling. [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is nice, though, and works well with your other daughters’ names. It’s also only two syllables. Maybe it doesn’t need a nickname at all?

beynotce - you are right is is only 2 syllables, it just looks long, I’m not sure what I was thinking.

And it seems that was concern with [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] was warranted as a lot of berries have a very negative reaction.

I can see the poodle thing with [name_f]Fifi[/name_f], but I know someone with the nickname, probably 8 years older than me so it’s not weird. She’s in her late 20s now with children and so I don’t see it as a problem because it’s “normal”, but I do agree that [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] with [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is overkill. I like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] with NN [name_u]Dell/name_u, [name_f]Elfie[/name_f], or [name_f]Fina[/name_f].

See I don’t see the issue with [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] and [name_f]Fifi[/name_f].
So many nicknames end in ee. [name_u]Abby[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], ect.
I dislike common nicknames like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] with [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], they just seem basic in comparison
(one reason why [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] isn’t higher on our list)
We wouldn’t use [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] because they end in vee
likewise we wouldn’t use [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Della[/name_f] because they both end in la
but [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] and [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] doesn’t really seem like an issue.
If I can get past the poodle association.

My friends little girl is called [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and we all call her [name_f]Fifi[/name_f]. We love it!

I think [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is gorgeous and fits really well with your other girls’ names! I also think it’s short enough that it doesn’t need a nickname, but if you like [name_f]Fifi[/name_f], then go for it. Personally I find [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] a bit silly, but not insurmountably so, especially on a kid. If I had to pick a nickname for [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], I’d probably go for [name_f]Fina[/name_f]/Phina.

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is gorgeous, and [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] and [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] are both good nicknames.
