First and middle name ending in “A”

Okay y’all. I need some help. I’m in love with the name [name_f]Vienna[/name_f], however we really want to honor my husband great grandma whose name was [name_f]Ella[/name_f]

Is [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] too much? I think it looks great on paper. But how does it roll off the tongue? My niece is [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] so I wouldn’t want [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as a first name, just too close. I just love both of these names so much, but I’m afraid they’re too close. I’m open to other first names starting with “V”
Was also thinking of having two middle names, one to break up [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
Help!

I think it works fine but if you are concerned, [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] would also be nice.

I think [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] sounds beautiful! Sometimes meaning takes precedent over flow. You could always go with [name_f]Lela[/name_f] (an anagram of ella) to honor your great grandma. I think [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Lela[/name_f] flows a little better and still captures that meaning while also keeping your daughters name further away from your niece [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. You could also do [name_f]Elle[/name_f] or lengthen [name_f]Ella[/name_f] to [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], or any other [name_f]El[/name_f] name. I dont think you have to choose the exact name for that meaning to still be there. Good luck!

I think it is fine especially as they are in the first and middle name spots. On a daily basis, we only say our first and last names together so she will be [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] (last name). [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is pretty and doesn’t grate so I don’t think it is too much at all. Use the names you love the most!

Generally I try and stay away from similar endings but this isn’t too bad and the sentiment behind it trumps flow. Go for it.

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is lovely, albeit a little rhyme-y.

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] sounds wise is very repetitive and doesn’t roll off the tongue easy.

In this case I would pick which matters more to you, going with the name you love or honoring a relative. For me, the name I love would be the priority, but your may feel more strongly about honor names.

Alternatively you could search for a similar sounding first name to [name_f]Vienna[/name_f], or a middle name that isn’t [name_f]Ella[/name_f] but contains the prominent [name_f]Ell[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] sound in it as a more loose homage.

Examples that came to mind are:
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Violaine[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]/[name_f]Valeraine[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Verenice[/name_f]/[name_f]Veronice[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Valen[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Fabienne[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Adrienne[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Julienne[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_u]Ellery[/name_u]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Eluned[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Eleusine[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ellette[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elinor[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elvire[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] does sound a bit repetitive but maybe the meaning is more important than the sound?

Otherwise, these might work:

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f]

It’s beautiful, but the double -a ending is probably what’s tripping you up about the sound! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f]? It still honours [name_f]Ella[/name_f]!

I do think that ‘[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]’ is awkward, and if you’re set on [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] I advise you go with a second middle name - I think your idea of ‘[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] ____ [name_f]Ella[/name_f]’ is a fantastic solution. (However, I’m also of the opinion that middle names aren’t that important in the long run, and ultimately ‘[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]’ is fine since it honors family.)

Since you’re open to other V names I want to suggest Viatrix, which is an earlier form of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] that I think works as a modern girls’ name. Viatrix [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is cool and spunky. Another name I’ve encountered among girls of Mexican origin is Vianey, pronounced ‘vee-ah-NAY’ (same last syllable as in [name_f]Renee[/name_f]), which I think is so pretty. In the 1960s there was a Mexican singer named Vianey Valdez (born 1943). I think it might be a Spanish respelling of Vianney, the surname of a 19th-century [name_m]French[/name_m] saint ([name_u]Jean[/name_u]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f] Vianney, 1786-1859), which is used as a boys’ name in [name_f]France[/name_f]. Vianey [name_f]Ella[/name_f] has a better flow than [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

I thought I’d add - Vayenne is a modern Dutch name, one of the top 500 girls’ names given in the Netherlands in 2014 and 2017, but I’m not sure of its origin or how it’s pronounced; I think it rhymes with [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] or [name_f]Cayenne[/name_f], and might be made-up, but it also resembles names from [name_f]Tahiti[/name_f] and could be some kind of [name_m]French[/name_m]-influenced variation of a name like Vayana/Vaiana (which comes from the Tahitian phrase vai ana o te mato teitei = ‘water from the cave of the high rock’) or Vaianu (from Tahitian vai anu o te rua mato = ‘fresh water from the rock hole’); that’s just a personal theory, though. Other V names I like that are probably less accessible: [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Viridis[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and Verdandi [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

For me, meaning trumps sound/flow, every time. It’s important for you to use [name_f]Ella[/name_f], so use it regardless of what first you choose. I had a similar issue with my daughter’s middle ([name_f]Patricia[/name_f], after my grandmother). I came to the conclusion that I’d just have to use whatever first name was top of my list and it would just have to go with [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. It worked out great and whatever reservations I had when hormonal and pregnant are pretty much gone now.

For what it’s worth, I think [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] sounds really nice and unexpected.
