First Communicants

I went to a First Communion Mass the other day, and there was a list of the First Communicants. Being a name nerd, I brought the list home and am posting it on here with my thoughts:

[name]Keenan[/name] - love this and [name]Keegan[/name], glad to see someone using it!
[name]Makayla[/name] - how many ways can you spell this?
[name]Veronica[/name] - awesome name with great nn possibilities
[name]Shay[/name] - poor child
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - I’ve known too many Elizabeths to analyze this anymore
[name]Jordan[/name] - boy or girl?
[name]Olivia[/name] - eh
[name]Hunter[/name] - go out and kill me some birds
[name]Michael[/name] (2) - traditional, thank goodness
[name]Chandler[/name] (2)- what? This is popular?
[name]Leonardo[/name] - DiCaprio
[name]Zachary[/name] - normal yet with a cool letter in the front
[name]John[/name] - normal
[name]Diana[/name] - [name]Princess[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] - the Great
[name]Gianna[/name] - the not-so-great girl who had a locker by me freshman year of high school
[name]Emily[/name] - I don’t care how popular it is, it’s still awesome
[name]Brandon[/name] - eh
[name]Peter[/name] - normal
[name]Addison[/name] - what is the appeal of naming your daughter something with “son” in it?
Anasofia - pretty, although I prefer [name]Annamaria[/name]
[name]Juan[/name] - he’s Spanish
[name]Paula[/name] - my 50-year-old next door neighbor
[name]Matthew[/name] - normal
[name]Camila[/name] - I wish I hadn’t named a character this charming name
[name]Antonio[/name] - Benderez or however you spell that actor’s name
[name]Paige[/name] - eh
Ieva - what nationality is she and how do you pronounce that?
[name]Brooklynn[/name] - I didn’t realize people were actually using this
[name]Dominic[/name] - always liked this name
[name]Tristan[/name] - solid and English
[name]Andrew[/name] - normal, but with the unappealing “ew”
[name]Megan[/name] - Never really liked this; sounds kind of masculine
[name]Stephanie[/name] - dated
[name]Addyson[/name] - poor kid going to be spelling her name all the time
Vianka - um…weird?
[name]Madison[/name] (2) - again with the “son”, but now you add “mad” to the mix
[name]Ethan[/name] - not bad
[name]Gabriel[/name] - traditional yet somewhat unique
[name]Sean[/name] - Irishman
[name]Madeline[/name] - the children’s book series
[name]Jonathan[/name] - still as traditional and rational as [name]John[/name]
[name]Valeria[/name] - “ria” makes me think of diarrhea
[name]Sofia[/name] - better than [name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Mia[/name] - [name]Hamm[/name]
[name]Josefina[/name] - the American Girl
[name]Victoria[/name] - I like this, but not all that much
[name]Sophia[/name] - ah, spelled the normal way.
[name]Hanna[/name] - why no final “h”?
[name]Luisa[/name] - again will be spelling out her name
[name]Nathan[/name] - like [name]Gabriel[/name], traditional but not overused
[name]Jacquline[/name] - a lot of name
[name]Nikola[/name] - “[name]REE[/name]-COLLLA”

What do you guys think of them? Keep in mind these are 7-8 year olds, not babies.

Some interesting names on here! I like:

[name]Shay[/name] - I love [name]Shay[/name] but spelled [name]Shae[/name] and for a middle name
[name]Chandler[/name] (2)- I love [name]Chandler[/name]!
[name]Leonardo[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it and I think Da [name]Vinci[/name]
[name]Diana[/name] - love it
[name]Alexander[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]!!
[name]Gianna[/name] - very pretty! [name]Love[/name] this name
[name]Brandon[/name] - love
Ieva - [name]Don[/name]'t like it but I would try to pronounce it ee-vah or eye-vuh
[name]Dominic[/name] - really like it
[name]Tristan[/name] - love it
[name]Madeline[/name] - very pretty
[name]Sofia[/name] - love it but spelled [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] - there it is!
[name]Hanna[/name]

Yet more First Communicants at a different parish:

Dantia - is this [name]DAN[/name]-sha or [name]DAN[/name]-tee-a or something else?
[name]Sophia[/name] (2) - is still pretty good
[name]Christopher[/name] (3) - I’ve always liked this, but not the nn [name]Chris[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] - eh. Never really liked this one
[name]Michael[/name] - I think I don’t like the “el” sound
[name]Ana[/name] - I’d rather it be part of something - [name]Annamaria[/name], [name]Rosanna[/name]…
[name]Benjamin[/name] - Not bad…the “j” makes it cooler
[name]Kathryn[/name] - would rather it be spelled [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Mateo[/name] - I have a bad image of this name, due to one of my sister’s classmates
[name]Alex[/name] - will spend his entire life explaining he’s not [name]Alexander[/name]…or [name]Alexandra[/name], if it’s a girl
[name]Thomas[/name] - prefer a [name]Timmy[/name] to a [name]Tommy[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name] - I rather like the “rick” sound, and this is a normal way to get it
[name]Caitlyn[/name] - how many ways can you spell this?
[name]Nolan[/name] - I only hear the surname [name]Dolan[/name]
[name]Evan[/name] - if only my eyes weren’t trained to see “[name]Eva[/name]” at the beginning
[name]Ava[/name] - Prefer [name]Eva[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name] - I have this image of a geeky kid with this name
[name]Jona[/name] - [name]Joan[/name] of [name]Arc[/name] comes to mind, so long as it’s pronounced [name]JO[/name]-na
Breany - a failed combo of [name]Bri[/name] and [name]Annie[/name]
[name]Erika[/name] - would prefer [name]Erica[/name], or better still, [name]Eric[/name] on a boy

So WDYT of this set?

Dantia - I would say [name]Dan[/name]-TEE-uh like my screen name, dan-[name]TAY[/name]-uh

Here’s the others I like:

[name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Alex[/name]
[name]Jona[/name]

I know quite a few Nolans and it’s a family name for me, I’ve never heard [name]Dolan[/name] though. I think AnaSofia is beautiful, are you around a large Italian community? With names like [name]Valeria[/name], [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Matteo[/name], AnaSofia, [name]Leonardo[/name], [name]Josefina[/name], [name]Gianna[/name], [name]Antonio[/name], [name]Luisa[/name] it seems like you must be, that or hispanic. I think there are a lot of lovely names on the list!

@thetxbelle The first parish was in a hispanic region, so that would be where names like Anasofia came from.

Yet another set (the last one, I think):

[name]Andrew[/name] (2) - again, the “ew” is unappealing
[name]Jack[/name] - short and strong, with good ([name]Jack[/name] [name]Dawson[/name] ) and bad ([name]Jack[/name] the Ripper) connotations
[name]Mia[/name] - [name]Hamm[/name], as mentioned before
[name]Tristan[/name] - solid and English
[name]Haylie[/name] - another one of those trendee, how-many-ways…
[name]Julia[/name] - I rather like this; old-fashioned yet fun
[name]Kira[/name] - go ahead and spell it [name]Keira[/name]. Everyone else will.
[name]Margaret[/name] - not bad, but I find I don’t like the letter “g.”
[name]Katelyn[/name] - see [name]Haylie[/name]
[name]Meghan[/name] - I never liked this name; it sounds somewhat masculine
[name]Heather[/name] - the name of three middle-aged people I know, hard to imagine it on a little girl
[name]Kaylee[/name] - see [name]Haylie[/name]
[name]Eva[/name] - really like this one. It has a nice ring to it.
[name]Michael[/name] - again, don’t like “el”
[name]Delaney[/name] - I get it’s an Irish surname, but it sounds a little flimsy to by a boy’s name
[name]Christian[/name] - sounds solid like [name]Tristan[/name], but I don’t tend to like word names
[name]Emalie[/name] - a poor [name]Emily[/name] who will forever be spelling her name.
[name]Jordan[/name] - are you a boy or girl? I hope a boy.
[name]Caroline[/name] - I like this, probably due to the fact I like “line” names.
[name]Olivia[/name] - I see the prettiness today, no wonder it’s popular

What are your opinions?

[name]Keenan[/name] - Ugh, my ex.
[name]Makayla[/name] - Ugh, mispelled.
[name]Veronica[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] and timeless
[name]Jordan[/name] - I’m a [name]Jordanna[/name]. [name]Jordan[/name] is easier to manage.
[name]Olivia[/name] - Pretty, but popular.
[name]Leonardo[/name] - Like it, but prefer [name]Leon[/name].
[name]Zachary[/name] - Like it, but prefer [name]Zacharias[/name] or [name]Zebulon[/name]. [name]Zachary[/name]'s the only one of those my husband would let me use though so maybe that’s what happened to this mom!
[name]John[/name] - A classic, but I will always like [name]Jonathan[/name] more.
[name]Diana[/name] - Have known nice girls by this name, but I dislike the name.

[name]Camila[/name] - Prefer [name]Camellia[/name]
[name]Antonio[/name] - Prefer [name]Antoine[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name] - On our boys list.
[name]Tristan[/name] - Reminds me of Triscuit, if not for that I think I’d like it.
[name]Andrew[/name] - Another, eviller ex-boyfriend. [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Alasdair[/name] and [name]Antoine[/name] are nice though.
[name]Megan[/name] - I have always liked this. I wish my husband and I could agree on how it’s pronounced.
[name]Stephanie[/name] - Dislike.
[name]Addyson[/name] - Hate
[name]Madison[/name] (2) - Hate
[name]Ethan[/name] - Yuck but less yuck than [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Addison[/name].
[name]Gabriel[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name]
[name]Sean[/name] - Dated
[name]Madeline[/name] - Prefer [name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Jonathan[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name], on our list.
[name]Valeria[/name] - I love this.
[name]Sofia[/name] - [name]Sofia[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] are too popular for me
[name]Mia[/name] - Dislike
[name]Josefina[/name] - [name]Love[/name], and love [name]Josephine[/name] too
[name]Sophia[/name] - Boring but not ugly. [name]Will[/name] date as badly as [name]Amanda[/name] did to the '80s.
[name]Nathan[/name] - Prefer [name]Nathaniel[/name]/[name]Natanael[/name], but don’t hate [name]Nathan[/name].
[name]Jacquline[/name] - I hope this was spelt [name]Jacqueline[/name], but I really like it, and [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] as well.
[name]Nikola[/name] - Too much like [name]Nicole[/name]. I have never met a [name]Nicole[/name] I liked.
