First Impressions of Keir?

Opinions of [name_m]Keir[/name_m] “keer”? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it works as an alternative to [name_u]Kai[/name_u]? I adore [name_u]Kai[/name_u] but DH isn’t sold on it, however we both really like [name_m]Keir[/name_m]. It’s a new name to us, never having heard of it before (we’re in he US) until just a couple of days ago. I’m just curious what people’s first impressions of it are. Does it have the same cool/edgy vibe as [name_u]Kai[/name_u]? Is it weird, handsome, strong, boring, etc.?

We are also open to mn ideas! Does [name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] work well?

Thanks!

I know one little [name_m]Keir[/name_m], and it suits him very well. I think it’s a very strong, cool name and I prefer it to [name_u]Kai[/name_u] (which I think is losing its cool factor due to rising popularity).

[name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is so handsome! What about…

[name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is fantastic!! I love it

I love [name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! So cool

[name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is very handsome! I love [name_m]Keir[/name_m], it was on my list for a while, but my fiance thought it was ‘weird’. Its strong with a unique sound.

Thank you all for the great feedback!!

I know an architect named [name_m]Keir[/name_m], love the name!

[name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is very handsome! It’s growing on me more and more as I type. I think it’s wearable because it’s quite short so it should be easy for people to “get” even if they haven’t heard of it before. Since it’s derived from and still visually similar to [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] / [name_m]Keiran[/name_m] I think that makes it feel more familiar, less weird. If you both love it, I encourage you to seriously consider using it. All the best deciding!

I like the name but just FYI it is a bad word in Farsi. [name_f]May[/name_f] not be an issue for you but just wanted to let you know!

[name_m]Kier[/name_m] sounds manly and refreshing.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Kier[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]

[name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] works well. I don’t have strong feelings on the name either way. It sounds a lot like queer to me.

[name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is very handsome! I love the sleek, Celtic sound of it. I think [name_m]Keir[/name_m]'s a bit cooler than [name_u]Kai[/name_u] due to being a little more unexpected.

It has a handsome sound to it. In Hebrew [name_m]Keir[/name_m] (keer) means ‘wall.’ I’d personally wonder what the meaning was behind the name, as it’s so uncommon, and sounds like it comes from a foreign language.

I know a [name_m]Keir[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] your average guy! To me it is a neutral name - could belong to any personality. I like it a lot more than [name_u]Kai[/name_u].

Thank you all! We have heard from quite a few people now that [name_m]Keir[/name_m] is too close to the word “queer” and after giving it much thought we decided that it isn’t as usable as we had hoped. We’re going to start searching for a new name. Bad timing as we only have 5 days until he’s here. I’m pretty frustrated and heartbroken as I love [name_m]Keir[/name_m].

[name_m]Just[/name_m] because a few people thought [name_m]Keir[/name_m] sounds like queer, doesn’t mean you have to to give it up if you love it and are heartbroken. As soon as they’d meet your son they’d know his name. Many names rhyme or sound similar to other words that may be less desirable, but once people are used to it it becomes a nonissue.

For right now, [name_m]Keir[/name_m] is just a name to discuss, so you’ll get lots of opinions (especially asking for them), but we’re people who don’t know you, and will never know your son. Once it belongs to a person the name becomes a whole different story.

If you’re truly frustrated, heartbroken, and now stressed about it, rethink using [name_m]Keir[/name_m]. [name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is a very nice choice.

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

I just want to second what the previous poster said. I think on this forum you will get some honest thoughts on a name, which hopefully can only help you make a decision, but no matter what name you choose there will be people who don’t like it. For example - I find most super common names pretty blah, and just don’t really like them, where as they are obviously loved by many other people since they are so common.

I know when I was naming my first son, I read so many message boards, and I got very discouraged and anxious by negative comments. We ended up waiting almost a week before finally deciding on his name, and even after I registered his name as official, I had cold feet and got really nervous I had made a huge mistake. But now I have grown to love his name. I’m 100% sure some people still think it’s weird or don’t like it, but it is so totally “him” now.

I personally don’t think [name_m]Keir[/name_m] sounds like “queer,” for what it’s worth, and as long as you don’t live in an area with a huge number of Farsi speakers I don’t think there’s anything negative about it!! But another option is to go to [name_m]Kiran[/name_m] and use [name_m]Keir[/name_m] as a nickname (sorry if that has been suggested already).

Anyway good luck…as you approach the end of your pregnancy there are so many emotions and hormones…give yourself plenty of time and don’t feel pressured.

I agree with the 2 pp. [name_m]Keir[/name_m] is a handsome name. I also like [name_m]Keiran[/name_m] and know one personally who is very likable. Alternatively have you considered [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] or [name_m]Piers[/name_m]? These names have the same feel as [name_m]Keir[/name_m] to me. I really hope you find peace with your beloved name. For what it’s worth, it’s a good one in my opinion.

I didn’t get queer from [name_m]Keir[/name_m] at all, for what it’s worth. It literally never would have occurred to me. I think [name_m]Keir[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is nice

I really like it
