My History
While I don’t have any experience with dealing with a BD like this, I am a child who has never had a relationship with my father. While we lived in the same house when I was young (my parents separated when I was in middle school and finalised the divorce when I was in high school), my father only used me as a pawn when he wanted to control my mother. Otherwise he abused, ignored and neglected me due to my gender.
As my parents were married for most of my childhood years, I did get his last name. I have been wanting to change it since I was young. Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance and, since finding out, my mother has been preventing my changing it (I think she would go as far as contesting it in court because it has to be announced and open for being contested where I live before the judge will grant it).
