[name_f]See[/name_f]. I was raised very similarly with my parents married until I moved out while maintaining separate lives completely. My dad has and always did treat me more as the daughter he had to take care of him someday which is why I didnt necessarily fully grasp that I had somehow while attempting to avoid a narcissistic man like my father ended up being involved with one anyway. I dont think its talked about enough about the mental and psychological issues with being raised that way. We sometimes do not know how to stand up for ourselves as we’ve been groomed to always apologize. Without this forum, im actually not sure I would have put two and two together. I knew it didn’t feel right but you start to think youre being too much or the urge to apologize and mend things start creeping in. [name_m]Even[/name_m] my “support group” upon witnessing what was happening was telling me to fix it because that’s what we’ve always done to please my dad.
With any case. More than just a name advice was given here. [name_m]The[/name_m] people in this thread may have saved my life and I am forever grateful for it. I hope that any one else in a similar situation may read through and have their eyes opened as well. If it doesnt feel right it probably isnt.
As far as a last name change goes. Im not sure about your region and it is a bit extreme but a friend if mine was born and lived with her name until someone got very famous with the same first and last name. Facebook and even emails tried to block her from having a profile due to this name being so famous. [name_f]She[/name_f] actually married her best friend and have been living as roommates with him and have taken his last name. In marriage and divorce you get to chose your name. Again very extreme but effective if its something you truly feel weighs you down.
