First name and last name starting w/ same letter

What are your thoughts on names that begin with the same letter of your last names. I like so many names that start with M but we have a one syllable last name that starts with M. Is it too rhyme-y?? Like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Marks for example or [name_f]Martha[/name_f] Marks??

It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s not something I would personally do. Since your last name is one syllable, I’d suggest going for a longer/multi syllable first name. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Marks sounds kind of like a cartoon character in my opinion.

Something like this would sound better…
[name_f]Melanie[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] Marks etc…

This was one of my problems with coming up with possible names. I adore so many names that start with R but I automatically dislike like the sound of any R name with our R last name. Very frustrating.

However, that’s just my personal preference. I think many names can still be very nice even with a matching letter last name

I don’t mind it at all. As long as there aren’t too many similar letters, like how [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and Marks both begin with [name_f]MAR[/name_f].

My first name and last both start with the letter E. Both have only one syllable. Its never been an issue for me. If anything people seem to remember my name more even thou its not common. I recently read this article about it and thought that it was interesting discussion. Might be worth checking out.

My brothers name is SS, and he has no problems at all. No one ever forgets his name.

I don’t think I would do it personally but I think that having the last letter of your first name and the first letter of your last name the same is a lot worse.

Example:
[name_m]Hobbes[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m].

Because it runs together and sounds like one name.
I think [name_f]Martha[/name_f] Marks is a little much because of the [name_f]Mar[/name_f]- [name_f]Mar[/name_f]- but if you had ‘Melissandra Marks’. That doesn’t sound like a comic book character.

I’m not the biggest fan when it comes to have the same letter for both the first and last name. However if you really like names that start with M, go for it!! I would say that since your last name is one syllable, go with more than a multiple syllable first name such as…

[name_f]Miranda[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Melanie[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] Marks
[name_f]Mackenzee[/name_f] Marks

Done “well” (which of course is subjective), I love when people’s first and last names start with the same letter. I think that the key is that the names not share any other sounds, or at least any other prominent sounds. I still remember the name of a girl from elementary school whose name I always thought was gorgeous - [name_u]Mel[/name_u]@nie M@tthews (I’m using “@” instead of “a” so it’s not google-able). To use your example, I’d avoid [name_f]Martha[/name_f] Marks (or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] Marks) because of the repeating “ar” sounds, but [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Marks, [name_f]Malia[/name_f] Marks, [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] Marks would work.

I’ve always liked being “B squared” and will be sad when I get married one day and more than likely won’t have a B last name anymore. As long as the two names aren’t too similar, it’s fine. I agree that the last letter of the first name and the first letter of the last name shouldn’t be the same though, because they would just run together.

I think alliteration can sound fantastic or a little cartoonish, it just depends on the specific names. I don’t think it should necessarily be a deal breaker, though. My daughter’s first and last names both start with M. I will admit the flow of her name isn’t prefect, but it has a lot of significance to us and I love it, and that’s a lot more important to me.

I actually like the alliteration as long as the two names only share the first letter. If both have the same number of syllables or what other main sounds it comes out too matchy. It also makes me think of super heroes like [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m] (same sound), [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] [name_m]Banner[/name_m], and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Parker[/name_u]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I don’t think [name_f]Martha[/name_f] Marks works, but it’s not because of the M at the beginning, but the similar sound. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Marks is better, but I think the longer the name the more it works. [name_f]Martina[/name_f] Marks, [name_f]Merida[/name_f] Marks, [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] Marks, ect. are all fine.
