Ok so Im normally annoyed a bit by boys names on girls. But I keep thinking about [name_u]James[/name_u] after watching [name_m]Derry[/name_m] Girls and started wondering about it as a girls name. Maybe with the nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], maybe not. Would you do it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you sort of hate it? Does it bug you?
I mean, personally I wouldn’t do it. However, my style is a lot more traditional and classic than modern (such as gender bending stuff). I think [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is kinda cute. I know of someone who has a daughter named Jamesly. I guess I prefer names that are more established as unisex names, such as [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] or [name_u]Evan[/name_u].
I’m really not in favor. That’s one of those names I’d say try introducing yourself as that for awhile and see what reaction you get type deal. I could see maybe the allure for it as a middle. Anyway it could pass as a nn? Like maybe for [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] or something similar.
I love love love the first name [name_u]James[/name_u] for a girl! [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively/Ryan [name_u]Reynolds[/name_u]’ oldest daughter is named [name_u]James[/name_u] (w/ sisters [name_f]Ines[/name_f] & [name_f]Betty[/name_f]) and I think it’s so sweet!
I’ve started to really like [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle regardless of gender, but I’m not totally sold on it as a first for girls. I do think [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is really sweet, though! And I’m sure if I knew a girl [name_u]James[/name_u] I would get used to it quickly; I like the sound a lot, I think it’s just the fact that it’s such a classic-y classic name for boys that gets me.
I have a son [name_u]James[/name_u] so it’s personally a no for me.
Used to bug me a lot, but now I really like it!
I don’t like historically very masculine names on girls. It can be a huge hassle where the child will have to constantly correct people, not to mention legal problems/mistakes. I feel like she will always be mistaken for a man her whole life, and because it I think it would be a life long inconvenience I’m not a fan of it. Although if you do decide to go with [name_u]James[/name_u], I think [name_u]Jem[/name_u] would be a very cute nickname.
Honestly? I love it. The sound isn’t heavily masculine in the first place so I think that’s why it sounds so natural to me.
I have a cousin (girl) called [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], so I love that nn as well.
I don’t mind making names gender neutral but I’m not a fan of [name_u]James[/name_u] on a boy. It’s a bit boring and it doesn’t become more interesting on girls imo.
I find it too masculine, not cute at all tbh. The imagery is… so different than a little girl. Feels mismatched to me.
I mean…honestly, so many boys names have been taken over, the pile of exclusively boys names dwindles smaller and smaller. Particularly the handful of classic, traditional boys names, I feel should be off limits. What is the difference between naming a girl [name_u]James[/name_u] than naming a girl [name_m]William[/name_m], or [name_m]Robert[/name_m], or [name_u]Howard[/name_u]? It’s the same difference as they are in the category of very traditional, hands-down boys name. The thing is there are girl name versions. If you like [name_u]James[/name_u], then [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], [name_f]Jamilla[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f]…there are other options. There are so many gender neutral options, many of them former boys names to choose from as well.
I’m not a big fan, if I’m honest. This particular example is such a longstanding, hugely popular classic for boys throughout the centuries, that I just can’t see it on a girl at all.
Add to that the fact that [name_u]James[/name_u] for a girl (especially in the middle) became a huge trend right after [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively and [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] [name_u]Reynolds[/name_u] used it – both among other celebrities and just in general – and this is one name that always seems very celebrity-inspired to me.
Love [name_u]James[/name_u] as a boy name, though!
I love [name_u]James[/name_u] on a girl! Super spunky and cute. Unfortunately, I can’t use the name [name_u]James[/name_u] but I’d love to use it.
I prefer it without a nickname but [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] definitely makes it feel a little bit more feminine, despite [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] also being a unisex name.
Seems you’re getting very mixed messages!
I mostly feel this way too, though I have met a female [name_u]James[/name_u] who wore it well. There was a strong family name incentive there, so I totally get it in that case, but overall for a girl I’d be much more inclined to use [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or the more-neutral [name_u]Jamie[/name_u].
I strongly dislike the name [name_u]James[/name_u] but [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] on a girl is nice
I strongly dislike [name_u]James[/name_u] on a girl. [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is cute but [name_u]James[/name_u] is such an established boy’s name I can’t see it on anything but a boy. For me it’s like naming your son [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], or your daughter [name_u]George[/name_u].
It has grown on me a lot! I actually really love it atm for a girl. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nns [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and [name_u]Jem[/name_u].
James was in the top 1000 US for girls up until 1989…
I don’t see why not because if you look at history all it took was for a few people to take a boys names and put it as their daughters names. That’s was how unisex names became popular. Take names like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Casey[/name_u], [name_u]Connor[/name_u], [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Dakota[/name_u] etc.
They were male names that someone put on a female know they are popular for both
