Struggling to find something to sit along side [name_m]Mars[/name_m].
I thought [name_f]Io[/name_f] would be perfect but hub hates it. What do you guys think?
(io is a moon)
Obviously we aren’t after traditional names
Also, if it sparks anything we are super into cacti AND icy tundra.
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] is very unconventional for a girl and distinctly male to my ears being the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] counter part of Greek god Ares. In my opinion, [name_f]Io[/name_f] would be a better first name for a girl.
Ooh, [name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Io[/name_f] isn’t good. It’s two planets. I’m not keen on [name_m]Mars[/name_m] as a name. Have you considered [name_f]Maris[/name_f]?
[name_f]Io[/name_f] is a guilty pleasure names for me. Another that he may prefer would be [name_u]Echo[/name_u]. I think either would be great sibling names but as a middle name they feel too much for one little person to carry. It step away from classical myth personally.
I also think an obviously feminine name is better with an ambiguous first.
Maybe:
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Adelia[/name_f]
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Ursa[/name_f] (if your keen on a star theme)
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] Zepherine
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Victoire[/name_f]
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know much about cacti or icy tundra sorry.
I appreciate posts like this. Thank you for the suggestions. The more the merrier mama (me).
I understand that the name is too masculine for some of you but we really love it for a girl. I don’t believe in force feeding gender roles or names for that matter. heh.
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] sounds masculine to me.
However, I know a very sweet little girl named [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] who’s nickname is [name_m]Mars[/name_m] or [name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_u]Bar[/name_u]. Would you consider [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] with the nickname [name_m]Mars[/name_m]? You said earlier you like gender neutral, [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is very gender neutral. It could easily work for either gender, and imo ebbs on masculine. However, it works on a girl.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Io[/name_f]? [name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Io[/name_f] isn’t … good. [name_u]Echo[/name_u] was a really great suggestion, how about [name_f]Isla[/name_f]?
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is much better than [name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Io[/name_f].
I’m not keen on [name_m]Mars[/name_m] as fn for a girl-- it sounds very masculine to me. What about moving it to the middle? [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] [name_m]Mars[/name_m], [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_m]Mars[/name_m], etc. Or, modify it a little to [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Maris[/name_f], [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], [name_f]Marcia[/name_f], [name_f]Marna[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], etc. Maybe [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] nn [name_m]Mars[/name_m] after a type of cactus? Some other names you may like: [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], Agave, Acuna, Copao, [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_m]Mori[/name_m], Nopal, Pitaya, Saguaro, [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f], [name_f]Ursa[/name_f], [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Neva[/name_f]/[name_f]Neiva[/name_f], or Eirwen.
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] is a strong, fresh, bold, nature-based choice; I like it!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about the following for middles: they’re names of stars/comets/galaxies/moons
[name_f]Alula[/name_f]
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Mimosa[/name_f]
[name_u]Calypso[/name_u]
[name_f]Titania[/name_f]
[name_f]Miranda[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (also means ‘from the forest’)
That’s my pleasure! I’m sure there are plenty of other people who also see the beauty in [name_m]Mars[/name_m] for a girl.
I wish I knew more about Arctic tundra and cactii so I could make some suggestions based on those. I meant to put [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] in my first list too; latin for ‘morning’ or ‘dawn’, but I associate it with the Northern Lights, which I assume are visible in the Arctic… and therefore in the Arctic tundra? I live on the other hemisphere : )
Never heard of [name_m]Mars[/name_m] for a girl, I do think of it as a boys name, but I’m sure others don’t get my names. I think it could be very pretty with a nice middle.
We have a confectionary line here in [name_m]Oz[/name_m] called a [name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_u]Bar[/name_u], a caramel bar covered in rich chocolate, so [name_m]Mars[/name_m] would be a name that has a lot of teasing potential here.
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_f]Io[/name_f] isn’t a delightful name imo, sorry. Too matchy-matchy. Cacti and [name_f]Icy[/name_f] [name_f]Tundra[/name_f] also need to be nixed (as a thought, what about [name_f]Nyx[/name_f]? Enough to sate your craving for the unusual?) Got any family names for a middle?
There are a lot of “hippie name” topics floating around here that contain some really lovely names that most of our hubbies make us put on the guilty pleasure list. Check 'em out.
[name_m]Mars[/name_m] is way masculine, by the way. [name_f]Maris[/name_f] or Merit tickle your fancy?
I am a bit surprised by the answers to this thread.
The starter has chosen a first name they like for their daughter and asks for help on picking a mn - yet most people just seems to want them to change the first name… I am sure the parents know that [name_m]Mars[/name_m] is usually used for a boy - and they chose it anyway. Why does everyone need to point it out?
I would choose a longer feminin mn for [name_m]Mars[/name_m].
If you want spacey maybe: [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] or [name_f]Estella[/name_f]…
