[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!
I’ve been a loooong-time lurker here at Nameberry, but this is my first post. My husband and I are not currently expecting, but we welcomed our first son in [name_u]January[/name_u] and we can’t seem to stop discussing the name of [name_u]Baby[/name_u] #2. (Can’t help it when you’re a name lover!)
We named our son [name_u]James[/name_u], but we call him [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. This combination was entirely the brain child of my husband and I initially protested. I wasn’t a big fan of [name_u]James[/name_u]’ traditional nicknames (or [name_u]James[/name_u] itself, but that’s another story), and I thought we could call him [name_u]Jay[/name_u] instead. Hubs was really set on the [name_u]James[/name_u]/[name_m]Jack[/name_m] combo and I had no real reason to oppose it except that “you can’t use [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u].” Neither name would have made it on my short list if I were doing this on my own, but I didn’t have any other boy names I felt as strongly about as he felt about [name_u]James[/name_u]/[name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I eventually got on board when we chose the middle name [name_u]Carlisle[/name_u], which is a family name. James + Carlisle = [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? I can see that.
Now that we’ve gone that route for our first child, I would [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to continue it for our next. Again, we are quite a ways away from [name_u]Baby[/name_u] #2, but I just can’t stop thinking about other first name/middle name combinations. I figured if anyone could help me brainstorm some good options, it would be this group of people!
Our list of boy names is really short: we both like the name [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a family name I’d consider using. Husband has suggested:
Benjamin Thomas –> [name_u]Jet[/name_u]
(When he first said this, I thought it was a reference to [name_u]Bennie[/name_u] & the Jets. Apparently it’s not, but I think the comparison is inevitable.)
Husband is a fan of classic first names and has suggested both [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] recently, but personally, I prefer names a little farther off the beaten path. I know Husband will veto anything that’s too out there, so I’m trying to find gems higher up on the popularity charts.
If we have a girl, her middle name will most likely be [name_f]Maria[/name_f]. The only good nicknames I’ve come up with combining [name_f]Maria[/name_f] and some of my favorite first names are:
[name_f]Ro[/name_f]se Maria –> [name_u]Romy[/name_u]
Rosalie Maria –> [name_u]Remy[/name_u]
Sabrina Maria –> [name_u]Sammy[/name_u]
I also liked [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] ([name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is also a family name and Hubs loves [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]), but my brother- and sister-in-law just found out they’re expecting a girl this summer and have chosen [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]), so that crosses [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] off my list.
Other girl names that I’ve always liked (though none have really excited my husband): [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] (family name), [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_u]Raylan[/name_u], [name_f]Rayna[/name_f] ([name_u]Ray[/name_u] is a family name), [name_f]Tess[/name_f]/[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. Husband really likes [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f], but I think both are very popular. Plus, [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is the name of a very good friend I had growing up. It’s a good association, but I only see the name as HER (my friend’s) name.
Have you guys got any other suggestions for us? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know anyone who went by a first name/middle name como? Thank you so much in advance!
