Our baby girl’s middle name will be “Michelle” after my mom’s middle name. But I am really struggling to find a first name and would love suggestions!
While I think Michelle would make a pretty first name, I strongly dislike the alliteration of “M” names with our last name, Mino (pronounced My-No) so “Michelle” is bumped to the middle.
I posted my shortlist on Nameberry a few weeks ago and got some really great insights. However I’m having second thoughts. I don’t really LOVE any of my names so I’m starting from scratch and looking for fresh opinions.
I’m not sure what sort of name “Michelle” is. but it is French in origin and was most popular in 1972 if that helps…
I may be biased because it’s my name, but I like [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]. A variation could be [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f].
I am basing my suggestions on the names you liked before. I still really like [name_u]Allison[/name_u] for you. Other ideas that remind me of names you like:
From those lists, I do also like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Brianna[/name_f], [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f], [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. I have to read the suggestions over again a few times though.
I still like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] (from my first post on here) and I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the positive reaction I’ve gotten for that one, but for some reason I can’t see us calling her that name. Maybe because I feel like I’m not saying it right ?haha.
The name we are most drawn to right now is [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]. I wonder if [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] is a more liked version since it was suggested a few times on this post. [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] seems so sweet and simple, but people don’t seem to like it so I worry it’s unsophisticated or something.
Another name on our list was [name_f]Brianna[/name_f]. This was a front runner for a while because my grandpa, who I’m close with, is called [name_m]Brian[/name_m] and I wanted to honour him. However I got a lot of negative reaction for this name (even from my grandma!) Most people thought it was dated and told me it had a ditzy/unclassy vibe. I cut it from our list b/c of the impression it gave people but I still do like it… I think “[name_f]Brie[/name_f]” is a cute nick name and I think I’ll add it back to my list.
[name_f]Hailey[/name_f] is sweet and simple, I agree; I’ve just known so many Haileys that it’s gotten a bit stale for me. Perhaps others feel the same way, and that’s why you’re getting negative feedback. I don’t find it unsophisticated! It’s a perfectly good name. I prefer [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] sound-wise, and because it’s less common, but [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] is sweeter.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Brianna[/name_f], and nickname [name_f]Bri[/name_f]/[name_f]Brie[/name_f]! Especially since it has family significance for you.
[name_f]Hailey[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] sounds great your last name. I think it’s very wearable, as wearable as [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], and if you love it you should use it.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] is a great name, but it could kind of run into your last name, depending how you say it. That might be why you are hesitating. It also seems like an outlier to your style.
Another way to get to [name_f]Brie[/name_f] (and perhaps nod to your grandfather) could be [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] (ha-lee) over [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] (hay-lee) any day. I’ve heard too many people called [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] and its just boring over all.
So I already had hesitations about [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] but I just found out my family hates it, so I am even more hesitant now! 3 weeks to go until baby!
I really like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] but my DH vetoed them… he didn’t even give me a good reason… [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] reminds him of [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]’s [name_f]Secret[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] sounds old (I disagree lol). I still put them on my list, maybe he will change his mind st the hospital!!
Another name I think I like now is [name_f]Amy[/name_f]/[name_f]Aimee[/name_f]. It’s a bit short for our last name (I thought [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] was short too) but I was thinking an option is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] nn [name_f]Amy[/name_f]. I’ve never heard of this name before. Apparently it means “hardworking” in [name_m]French[/name_m]. I’m a bit worried it sounds made up /will be hard for ppl to pronounce though - thoughts?
I think I do prefer a three syllable first name with your last name. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is lovely but the full name has kind of a lot of m and it might be an outlier to your preferred style. If neither of these things bother you it is a very pretty name.
Of the names you both agree on, I think Allison, Brianna, and Serena work best overall. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those choices. People on Nameberry are very conscious of when particular names peaked, but these are all lovely names that are very wearable. Allison is sometimes called a new classic. As your daughter goes through life, people are not going to be judging her because she has first name that peaked in use a few years before she was born.
I also like Victoria and Vivienne for you if your husband comes around.
Thank you!! Ps: I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] your name ([name_f]Erin[/name_f]). My due date is almost on St. [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]’s day so even more perfect… but my husband’s name is different by only one letter lol ([name_m]Eric[/name_m]) so it felt to confusing
Thanks. I meant to say I also think [name_f]Hailey[/name_f], despite being only two syllables, sounds great with your last name. You seem to keep coming back to it, and it is a fine name. Maybe your family will come around? One of the co-hosts of the Today Show used it for her daughter, if you think celebrity cred might help!
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] flows well, but it’s actually the name of the baby’s soon to be aunt lol
I do like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but I think they’re in the top ten for popularity. I’m finding it hard to find anything I love outside the top 100 so I’m just aiming for past the top #25 now lol
