Congratulations on TTC, and welcome to Nameberry! Let’s have a go at your list, then…
[name]Zac[/name] - [name]Zac[/name] is kind of a cool kid name, handsome and strong, but not stuffy. I like that, but I personally would use a full name, like [name]Zachary[/name], with [name]Zac[/name] as the nickname. I personally think it will be easier to find a middle name with a longer first name, too…
[name]George[/name] - [name]George[/name] is one of the classics that I don’t particularly care for, but I appreciate the no-nonsense, distinguished appeal of the name.
[name]Lincoln[/name] - This is a really cool surname that seems to be coming out of nowhere lately! [name]Link[/name] is a really fresh, modern nickname that sounds good on a baby and a grown man.
[name]Otis[/name] - Oh, goodness! I just can’t latch onto this one for a baby. It’s like [name]Bailey[/name] - I’ve seen far too many dogs with this name so it is forever a dog name and not a …name… name.
[name]Oliver[/name] - I love this one, from [name]Oliver[/name] Twist to its more modern appeal, this name is a vintage favorite of mine! It may have (silly) nicknames, but it is very cute yet still sophisticated. Great!
[name]Oscar[/name] - This reminds me of [name]Oscar[/name] the Grouch on the children’s TV show, [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name]. I couldn’t name my child after a grumpy, ugly green puppet who lives in a garbage can!
[name]Dexter[/name] - Because of the TV show by the same name, I’ve heard this one around more often. However, this name has the same feel as [name]Linus[/name] to me - a sad, sorry, mama’s boy with nerdy glasses, a baby blanket, and dripping eyes…
[name]Jackson[/name] - I do love [name]Jack[/name], but I prefer it without the trendy -son ending. Yet, I see the appeal and do like this.
[name]Zander[/name] - My sister used to love this name! I prefer it as a nickname for [name]Alexander[/name], spelled [name]Xander[/name]…
[name]Newton[/name] - For Sir [name]Isaac[/name]? If I had to pick one, I’d use [name]Isaac[/name], as [name]Newton[/name] reminds me of newts…
[name]Rex[/name] - [name]King[/name], of what? I don’t think I could name my child [name]Rex[/name], as it means “king.” What do you name the next child to beat that? And, [name]Rex[/name] has a harsh sound, so it seemed perfect for the fearsome Doberman Pinscher that I once met with this name!
[name]Finn[/name] - [name]Finn[/name] is sweet and calm, what every parent wants their child to be. However, I like it as a nickname for [name]Finnegan[/name], [name]Findlay[/name], or [name]Phineas[/name].
[name]Bay[/name] - Yes, I’d definitely relegate this to middle name territory, as it doesn’t have enough substance to be used out front in my opinion. Pretty, unusual middle name, though!
[name]Cole[/name] - [name]Cole[/name] seems trendy, and harsh (coal, anyone?), and I just don’t really care for it.
[name]Deacon[/name] - I’ve liked [name]Deacon[/name] since [name]Reese[/name] Witherspoon named her son this name! It is fresh and cool, yet has a sort of vintage-y feel at the same time. I really like it paired with a classic middle name.
FAVORITES: [name]Zachary[/name], [name]Lincoln[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Finn[/name] ([name]Finnegan[/name], [name]Findlay[/name], [name]Phineas[/name]), [name]Deacon[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - I love [name]Isla[/name], for its glamorous, yet simple, feel. Feminine and beautiful, it is perfect for a little girl. However, the addition of [name]Mae[/name] just ruins it for me. I’d at least spell it [name]May[/name] to get rid of the “country” look that seems so awkward when paired with [name]Isla[/name], but I think [name]Isla[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Marisol[/name], or [name]Isla[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] would be more suitable…
[name]Jemima[/name] - This reminds me, a person in the US, of the syrup brand, Aunt [name]Jemima[/name]. It seems dated and decidedly un-cool in my opinion, and I just don’t see this one coming back…
[name]Eleanor[/name] - Pretty name with cute, modern nicknames.
Amberley [name]Rose[/name] - I don’t care for Amberley at all. It seems very trendy, like Everleigh or [name]Ainsley[/name], and I didn’t like [name]Amber[/name] in the 1980s, either!
[name]Sky[/name] - I’d prefer [name]Sky/name in the middle, as it seems a bit too much for me in the first name position. It is a spunky name, however!
[name]Hazel[/name] - This is really gorgeous yet still natural and unique. I honestly met the cutest two-year-old [name]Hazel[/name] yesterday, and the name was so distinguished and so …HER… that I fell in love with it!
[name]Wren[/name] - I’d save this for a nickname. Like [name]Lark[/name], for me it seems way too out there. After all, it is a bird species, so does this mean that we should go out and use Flamingo and Parrot for names, too? Sorry for the harshness.
[name]Indiana[/name] - Actually, [name]Indiana[/name] reminds me of the character [name]Arizona[/name] on the TV show, [name]Grey[/name]'s Anatomy. However, am I the only one who thinks a girl named [name]Indiana[/name] in [name]Britain[/name] is a bit odd?
[name]Summer[/name] - This seems incredibly dated to me, like [name]Autumn[/name] and [name]Amber[/name]. If you like seasonal names, try [name]Winter[/name].
[name]Indy[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - [name]Indy[/name] reminds me of the [name]Indy[/name] 500 car race in Indianapolis and absolutely nothing else. It just isn’t, and can never be, a name in my opinion.
[name]Ember[/name] - Like flame? I don’t think I’d go this far, either.
[name]Cora[/name] - [name]Cora[/name] is cute, and its definitely coming back. [name]Coraline[/name] and [name]Coralie[/name] are nice, too…
FAVORITES: [name]Isla[/name] [name]MAEVE[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Hazel[/name]
My favorite combinations for siblings would be [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Zachary[/name], [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Jemima[/name], [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Jackson[/name], and [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Bay[/name]. Best of luck to you!
