Fisher? Honest thoughts

So we are having a horrible time picking a name for baby boy on the way hubby is being so difficult and the only name he likes is [name_m]Fisher[/name_m](we use family/honor names) anyways I am worried about the teasing and nickname potentials of [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]… “[name_m]Fish[/name_m]” “Fishy” “Fishsticks” etc but my husband thinks those aren’t bad :flushed: Thoughts? Does anyone have a [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] or know one? Thanks

I don’t love it - I think mean kids can manipulate any name. I know Hunters but no Fishers. Good luck!

I don’t know anyone with the first name [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], but I’ve heard it so much as a last name I don’t think teasing would be so automatic. Kids can make nicknames out of anything, my name is [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] which has turned to Hairielle, Scarielle, lol… I think it’s cute. Funny nicknames come with any name.

Not any weirder than [name_u]Carter[/name_u] or [name_u]Parker[/name_u].

Personally I understand your trepidation, I would be worried about it being shortened to “[name_m]Fish[/name_m]”. “[name_m]Fish[/name_m]” is not as cool an animal as for example, a “[name_m]Fox[/name_m]” is, a fish tends to be thought of as floppy and wet and smelly??

What about [name_u]Finley[/name_u]? It means, “fair-haired hero”, and the nickname [name_m]Fin[/name_m] could give homage to the family name [name_m]Fisher[/name_m].

I know a young boy named [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] M@honey and he wears it so well that I associate the name with him and I love it! Kids can make fun of any name but the silly name altering doesn’t usually stick. I think it would be a good choice.

There was a [name_m]Fish[/name_m] ([name_m]Fisher[/name_m]) on my son’s baseball team last year. He wore it well and was generally a cool kid (heckuva player) which made it work.

I know one; it’s not my favorite name, but it assimilates easily enough, as the others said, with [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], et al.

I like [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]. I don’t think it promotes teasing any more than most names. I don’t know anyone personally with the first name [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], but I do know an awesome family of Fishers.

I think [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]'s pretty cool tbh! My mum’s friend has a little boy named M@tthew [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], he’s 8 and his first name is after his father, but he only ever goes by [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]. As far as I know, everyone complimented her on the name choice when he was born, as she announced that he would be referred to by his middle name in her birth announcement. I like it!

Thanks for the opinions everyone! I do like the name I just need to figure out if the nicknames are a problem lol

I really dislike it.

Though [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] works well as a first name, I don’t see [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] fairing the same way…

Honestly, it makes me think of fisher cats, which are nasty little predatory creatures. That said, I’m imagining an adorable little boy named [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], and I have a feeling if I met one, I might do a 180. I could see it being quite charming actually. See? I’m already talking myself into it. I wouldn’t worry about the teasing too much. It does lend it self easily to a handful of comments, but kids will find any reason to tease if they are motivated. Good luck!

P.S. I hope that fisher cat comment didn’t offend you, I just realized how harsh it sounded. I’m kind of obsessed with them! Won’t let me edit…sorry about that. Anyway aside from that my comment was meant to be positive!
