Fitzgerald?

It’s growing on me. I think the nn [name]Fitz[/name] is cute as well. I know it will immediately be associated with F. [name]Scott[/name] though, not like that’s a bad thing because I’m a fan of his work. It isn’t the reason I like the name, however, I hate that I like a lot of names with teasing potential. I can imagine 10th grade English reading The Great [name]Gatsby[/name] and turning to snicker at a child named [name]Fitzgerald[/name].

Not a huge contender at this point, but should I stray away or only consider this as a middle name?

When I was brainstorming literary names, I definitely gave a thought to [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] (Mr. [name]Darcy[/name]…sigh…), and I had two main issues with it. 1) it would be really unusual (where I live, anyway) and 2) it literally means “son of [name]William[/name].”

I think I would have gotten over #1 (even now, reading your post, I’m thinking, “[name]How[/name] cute a little [name]Fitz[/name] would be!”). But I’m kind of hung up on the meaning thing. I know it’s goofy and neurotic, and god save anyone else from getting stuck on something like this, but there it is.

Anyway, neurosis aside, I think [name]Fitzgerald[/name] is a potentially very cool possibility:)

[name]Fitzgerald[/name] is as lovely as [name]Fitzwilliam[/name], Fitzadam and other [name]Fitz[/name]- names. [name]Every[/name] name has teasing potential, you just have to go used to it and don’t mind bad reference to the name you truly love.

I love [name]Fitz[/name]- names ([name]Fitzwilliam[/name] obviously being my favourite, but [name]Fitzpatrick[/name] is another guilty pleasure), and [name]Fitzgerald[/name] would be a lovely choice (although perhaps, in my opinion, slightly better suited to the middle, as I am a bit conservative when it comes to boy’s names) Good luck - what a fabulous namesake too!

I also love the [name]Fitz[/name]- names, and think [name]Fitz[/name] is a very cute nickname. I don’t think [name]Fitzgerald[/name] being connected to F. [name]Scott[/name] would be much of a source of teasing for kids. (No one is worried about their little [name]Harper[/name] being teased when they inevitably read To Kill A Mockingbird at school, are they ? )

I like it.

I think it’s kind of cool, and by 10th grade most kids have grown out of name-related teasing. At that point it’s about clothes and behavior.

I like it too- but then again I love most of the [name]Fitz[/name]- names! I agree with @celianne, by tenth grade nobody is teased about names anymore, so I doubt they’d snicker. His classmates might think it’s cool or artsy.
I say go for it.

I could see it like a [name]Hemingway[/name]. The literary allusions are definitely there. I also like the other nickname of [name]Gerald[/name].
