I think there’s a difference between using a name from your own culture and using a name from a different culture and not pronouncing it correctly. If I, for example, decided to use Eithne but, instead of using the Irish pronunciation, decided to pronounce it eyth-nuh. Or someone without a French background (or understanding of the language) using the French spelling of Pénélope but still pronouncing it the same as Penelope.
Edit: the latter example would be totally fine for French speakers who lived in an English-speaking country but wanted the name to work in French as well.
