Curious to see which you like most to least and how you picture each. Also who/what do you think of?
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] – I think of a doll first, then I imagine a well-dressed girl in a 1920s American city. A main association is [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m].
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] – I think of Christmastime, and a girl with red or strawberry-blonde hair. I imagine an optimistic, sweet, and funny girl. I’ve known a few Holly’s in real life, so I also associate it with them.
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] – I went to elementary school with a [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], so the name makes me picture her. Blonde hair and very energetic. I also think of lollipops and candy in general.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] – I imagine a dark-haired girl, on the quiet side but with a clever sense of humor. I think of the American Girl doll, and actress [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] rankings would be [name_f]Molly[/name_f] > [name_u]Holly[/name_u] > [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] > [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] but I don’t dislike any of them.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] have to say, being a name person since very little, that my paper dolls, and everything really, had names like this. [name_f]Maura[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] were very much in my childhood, along with [name_f]Gina[/name_f], [name_f]Tina[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f], [name_f]Rina[/name_f]. I found myself naming dolls with my grandchild the other day - [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and [name_f]Dolly[/name_f].
Thank you! How could I forget [name_f]Polly[/name_f], my favorite!
Most to least liked:
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] - sweet, cheeky, fun, happy. Does remind me of the drug and of a [name_f]Molly[/name_f] I know.
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] - smart, creative, warm, shy. Reminds me of the Holly’s I know but not with [name_u]Christmas[/name_u].
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] - loving, caring, humble, Hufflepuff vibes. Makes me think of doll/dollies before [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m].
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - I know a [name_f]Polly[/name_f] but unsure how to describe. Also reminds me of [name_f]Polly[/name_f] Pocket which is apparently going to be a movie soon.
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] - wild child vibes. Only association is with the character from [name_u]Orange[/name_u] is the new [name_m]Black[/name_m].
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] - [name_m]Parton[/name_m] and baby dolls
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] - [name_u]Holly[/name_u] [name_m]Wheeler[/name_m] from Stranger Things, [name_u]Holly[/name_u] [name_u]Marie[/name_u] Combs, [name_u]Holly[/name_u] [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Holly[/name_u] from PS I [name_u]Love[/name_u] You, and [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] time
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] - [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] from [name_u]Orange[/name_u] is the [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_m]Black[/name_m] and lollipops
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] - [name_f]Molly[/name_f] the [name_m]Doll[/name_m] from The Big Comfy Couch, [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Ringwald, [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Weasley from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], [name_f]Molly[/name_f] from [name_m]Toy[/name_m] [name_u]Story[/name_u], the song “Anna Molly” by Incubus, [name_f]Molly[/name_f] from [name_m]Mike[/name_m] & [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f] from Uptown Girls, and the [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Maguires (people, not movie)
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - [name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_u]Cooper[/name_u] from Riverdale and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] Pockets

I think all of the names share that super sweet, adorable feel!!
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] has dark brown hair and big brown eyes. she is very shy, and hides behind her mothers legs when around people. shes also quiet and creative. I imagine her to look a lot like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] from the movie!
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] has long blonde hair, blue eyes, and very rosy cheeks. she’s very girly and loves dresses and hair bows.
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] has shorter black hair and brown eyes. she’s quirky and a bit weird, but in the best way. she likes to make everyone laugh.
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] has long blonde hair, that she always wears in pigtails and green eyes. she’s adorable and sweet, but also spunky and adventurous.
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] is, well, [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m]. I have a hard time picturing anything but her
Dolly - my great grandmother went by this name! It’ll forever remind me of her, Hello Dolly!, and Dolly Parton, but I love the sound of it!
Polly - love! I think this may be my favourite, but S/O vetoed. I mainly think of Polly Pocket, which I used to play with all the time as a kid in the late 90s/early 00s.
Molly - Molly Ringwald! I’m a huge fan of hers so that’s what comes to mind for me. If it wasn’t already used in my family, I’d be considering it myself
I honestly didn’t think anyone else knew who she was I still have my Molly doll
Holly - This is on our list as it’s one of S/O’s favourites! I think of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Christmas time! Also a lesser known connection, but I believe this was the name of a love interest in an Elvis film from the 1960s? My mom grew up liking Elvis films thanks to her mother so I’ve seen a lot of them
Lolly - Love the idea of this as a nn for Lauren! I think of On The Good Ship Lollipop by Shirley Temple!

[name_f]Lolly[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f], a feisty woman you want on your side
[name_u]Holly[/name_u], a sweet lady with nice hair lol
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f], a cat
[name_f]Molly[/name_f], a dog
[name_f]Polly[/name_f], a little girl who loves frogs
[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] to least:
Most of these names I have strong personal associations with, so I think of either people I know IRL or celebrities/characters. Which probably isn’t super helpful, but it’s where my brain goes
I would say Polly > Molly > Lolly > Holly > Dolly
Polly is very much a retro cool girl in my mind. Molly is one that I’ve seen used on all age groups and seems to be a classic. Lolly I prefer as a nickname (I’m thinking Magnolia) because it seems very youthful. Holly has some bad association with me, I’m not a fan but I can’t quite pinpoint why. Dolly will always be Dolly Parton for me (though I do also think of Dolly Madison & Hello Dolly), feels a bit Victorian doll but I would like it as a nickname for Dahlia or Dolores.
[name_m]Will[/name_m] obviously be biased in this regard but the only ones I like are [name_u]Holly[/name_u] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] just doesn’t do it for me.
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] feels one-person name to me alla [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] like a type of child’s toy
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] reminds me of lollipops rather than people.
I actually like all these names.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] probably least just because I have known so many, some great, some not.
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] reminds me of my [name_u]Holly[/name_u] Hobbie doll my Mom made me and [name_u]Holly[/name_u] [name_f]Hollister[/name_f], the cute little brown-braided girl in The [name_u]Happy[/name_u] Hollisters books from my mom and uncle’s childhood. A spunky name and then of course [name_u]Holly[/name_u] [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] and [name_u]Christmas[/name_u].
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] reminds me of Miss [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Marple’s best friend, [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] Bantry, so I love it.
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] I love as a nickname. I don’t think of candy, but of my old boyfriend’s cute little cousin [name_f]Lolly[/name_f].
And [name_f]Polly[/name_f] is my favorite, my alter ego. Such an ebullient, buoyant name.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] - my own name haha so I’m a bit biased but i think it’s great, words used to describe me by others: kind, loyal, quiet.
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] - my godmother and mom’s best friend, very sweet, crafty and caring
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - my dog’s name lol, but probably my favorite of the 5, if I met a child named [name_f]Polly[/name_f] i would picture someone who is inquisitive and bright
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] - my least favorite of the group because I had a class with a girl with this name and she was the most annoying individual I had ever met. It was also an ASL class and was taught mostly in silence but she was constantly talking and being disruptive
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] - I don’t really picture this one as a name, more of a way of saying Lollipop, so it seems a bit saccharine but could work as a nickname I think
in order of preference
molly
dolly
polly
holly
lolly
my associations with each
dolly - a doll, or dolly parton
holly - people i know in real life and the plant
lolly - like a lollipop or an ice lolly, or the actress lolly adefope
molly - unfortunately my first thought is the drug
polly - someone i know in real life
I’d say my ranking would be…
All are sweet though! Holly, Polly, and Dolly would probably switch places on the list depending on the day, but Molly is my clear favorite because of a very positive personal association, and Lolly is my least favorite because I have trouble seeing past the candy!
Fun names for the most part!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite would have to be [name_u]Holly[/name_u], followed by [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], and [name_f]Polly[/name_f].
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] - very sweet, young round face comes to mind for me. I’ve known a handful of Hollys that I went to school with and taught and they were all adorable and very even-tempered people.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] - I like the sound of the name, but unfortunately, the teens and young adults I teach have ruined the usability for me. They reference the drug on the regular, so much so that one of my colleagues, a former [name_f]Molly[/name_f], changed her name. There were plenty of insinuations about her and her name…not cool.
[name_f]Lolly[/name_f] - Fun and a bit lispy. Usually I’m all for nickname names as full names, but this may be an exception for me. It needs a longer name, unless it’s the name of a character on a kid’s show.
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f] - Similar to [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], it’s cute. I’ve actually known two Dollys (one would be in her 80s now and the other is in her 40s). I think of a plump auntie that smells like gingerbread for this name.
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - Oh, I want to like this name. I like the look of it, but whenever someone says it aloud, it either sounds like [name_m]Paulie[/name_m] or PAH-lee with a really emphasized AH sound that just makes my toes curl. I just can’t get on with the sound unfortunately. And I think of parrots and for some reason, polygraphs.
You might like Colly/Collie. I knew a [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] that everyone called [name_f]Collie[/name_f] and I thought it was kinda cute.
