Flora vs Fleur

Hello all, we are expecting baby #2 this winter and are struggling with choosing between [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] for her name. [name_f]Florence[/name_f], as lovely as it is, reminds me of a granny so please don’t suggest it as it is not on our list.

We have a son called [name_m]Harry[/name_m], and our surname is [name_u]Walker[/name_u].

[name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] are delightful together!

I vote for [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. As an American, [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] sounds a little too snooty. Also the only time I have heard of a [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is in the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] books, and you already have a [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is nice though.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is lovely. If you wanted another choice [name_f]Floretta[/name_f] is pretty and doesn’t sound grannyish.

[name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] makes me think of the two characters in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I’d go with [name_f]Flora[/name_f].

In general I always will say [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], but with your surname all I hear is “floorwalker.” [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is a beautiful name and goes great with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] too.

Another vote for [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and I agree with the pp about hearing Floorwalker.

I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] are both lovely! I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f] with [name_m]Harry[/name_m], although I think [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] W@lker sounds slightly better. I don’t think you could go wrong with either! I think my vote is going to [name_f]Fleur[/name_f].

Good luck!

Definitely [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. For some reason, [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] looks like part of a title on bathroom spray.

[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] if you like the [name_m]French[/name_m]-style and it’s a very pretty name personally and is not as common as [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. Middle-class name.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] makes me think of the butter but it is more a british classic.

[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is beautiful, but I feel that since she will have a brother [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_u]Walker[/name_u], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] will suit her better because of both of her brother’s British names.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] . Never really cared for [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]

[name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] sound good together .

I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_u]Walker[/name_u] sounds particularly beautiful, but either name would be gorgeous. You have a great taste in names!

I much prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f]! Especially with your last name, it flows really well. I worry that kids would have a hard time pronouncing [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] and end up calling her “floor walker” or something. [name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] together also remind me a lot of the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] characters with the same names. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is lovely though

I like [name_f]Flora[/name_f]

I am a [name_m]French[/name_m] speaker, so while I appreciate the meaning of “[name_f]Fleur[/name_f],” honestly I’ve never found it to be a very nice-sounding word…and in English I think it becomes “flur,” which doesn’t appeal to me. Sorry for the brutal honesty!

On the other hand, I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is a great pick, and that it goes well with your last name and your son’s name.

Thanks, all!

I think we’ve settled on [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] as our favourite.

(and for what it’s worth, in the UK there are so many boys named [name_m]Harry[/name_m] that I don’t know anyone who would immediately associate [name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m])

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is a gorgeous name! I prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f], particularly paired with [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is delightful.
