Floral/astral/gem names. Need help!!!

A friend of mine suggested coming to Name [name]Berry[/name] for help. I am “newly” pregnant, and will be keeping the sex a surprise. This is my first! And the circumstances are complicated, but I will be a (young) single mother. So the naming will be completely up to me. I have no family that I would like to honor (oof, that’s a little embarrassing to say).

I have a list of middle names that are all set, so please don’t suggest middles! I have found that I am very drawn to names that have whimsical meanings, are a flower, are astral themed, gem stones, or “goddess” like (I love the concept of mythology names, but I haven’t studied mythology.)

[name]Celeste[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this. Far back in elementary school I had a math teacher named [name]Celeste[/name]. She was a bright person.
[name]Mercy[/name] - Religious. Dislike.
Lua - I think this can stand on it’s own. It has a soft sound that I like. You might also like Yua or [name]Yuna[/name]/Yuuna?
[name]Isis[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name].
[name]Aquila[/name] - I’d like it on either gender.
Melanite - Not sold.
[name]Opal[/name] - Cute, but it’s not my favorite gem name by far.

[name]Wisteria[/name] - It’d be an interesting floral name. I like it for someone else’s child rather than mine.
[name]Gemini[/name] - It’s a cool name, but not totally usable in my mind.

[name]Forsythia[/name] - It’s all right, but I prefer Forsythe (for a boy)
Keshet - Reminds me too much of Ke$ha from the sound/spelling.
[name]Minerva[/name] - I like the idea of it, and of possible nickname [name]Minnie[/name], but I can’t totally get behind [name]Minerva[/name].
[name]Amethyst[/name] - Coincidentally my (not so close) mother has this birthstone as well. I couldn’t get past the association in my life, but it’s up to you if you can in yours. Objectively, I think it’s a pretty name.
[name]Tempest[/name] - Not too harsh, I just think of strength, as a tempest is a powerful sort of storm. I like the name.

I agree that [name]Mercy[/name] is too religious. [name]Gemini[/name] is just not usable.
I am half Jewish, but I’m not sold on Keshet. That website does not bother me. On the other hand, the similarity to Ke$ha bothers me! All in all, I have better options.
My (not so close) mother :wink: wears amethyst a lot, so I don’t think I can get past the association either.

I love the name [name]Aquila[/name] for a girl! My nieces middle name is Quillard (her first is [name]Patricia[/name] after her late grandmother) and she goes by Quil. I think it is such an adorable nickname for [name]Aquila[/name].

ps dont be embarrassed about having no one to honor, people go overboard with that i think. ‘you were a normal dad and did exactly what you were supposed to! lets name a baby after you!’ unnecessary and boring in my opinion.

I’m not keen on religious names either, yet though I know mythological names are essentially religious, they have a different tone to me that makes them seem separate from being religious. The poster may feel the same?

I don’t know…I don’t think [name]Mercy[/name] HAS to be a religious name. I love it and I know an [name]Eden[/name], a [name]Hope[/name] and a [name]Grace[/name] whose parents aren’t really religious.

Lua is pretty on its own what language is it? full name options could be [name]Lucinda[/name] (possibly not your style), or [name]Luana[/name] (means content(hiwaiian))
[name]Isis[/name] my cousin has an [name]Isis[/name]. Beautiful, and a good goddess to be named after.
[name]Aquila[/name] can definatly work for a girl. I quite like [name]Quill[/name] on its own too, but wouldn’t be brave enough to use it.

[name]Celeste[/name] - I’ve never liked this name. It rhymes with something incredibly unflattering and I can’t get past it.

[name]Mercy[/name] - Its not religious to me. Its actually more musical. Its pretty neat, though lacking character.

Lua - I love [name]Lu[/name] names. Lua could be a nickname for [name]Alouetta[/name], which is a bird. [name]Luana[/name], the hawaiian name is a good suggestion. Its whimsical and naturey.

[name]Isis[/name] - It just doesn’t sound like a nice name to have as a child, and as a woman it might seem cold or unapproachable.

[name]Amethyst[/name] If this is a middle, that’s not so bad. If its a first your mom would definitely know about it and think you honored her. Also I don’t think this is very wearable for a child or grown adult.

And as for a boy, [name]Jasper[/name] immediately comes to mind. Its a stone, but its also not completely out there, so it’s very wearable. Its also got a lot of spunk, if I say so myself.
