Floral/astral/gem names. Need help!!!

A friend of mine suggested coming to Name [name]Berry[/name] for help. I am “newly” pregnant, and will be keeping the sex a surprise. This is my first! And the circumstances are complicated, but I will be a (young) single mother. So the naming will be completely up to me. I have no family that I would like to honor (oof, that’s a little embarrassing to say).

I have a list of middle names that are all set, so please don’t suggest middles! I have found that I am very drawn to names that have whimsical meanings, are a flower, are astral themed, gem stones, or “goddess” like (I love the concept of mythology names, but I haven’t studied mythology.)

This is my list:

GIRLS:

[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Mercy[/name] (I love this. But what image does it give you? Does it seem religious? Religious names are off limits to me)
Lua (Meaning the moon. It has special meaning for me, but I feel it too short. What names can have the nickname Lua???)
[name]Isis[/name]
[name]Aquila[/name] (I know its a boy’s name, but I can picture it on a girl so perfectly. What do you think??)
Melanite (It’s a garnet)
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Wisteria[/name] ([name]Love[/name] the image. But not sold)
[name]Gemini[/name] (I love this so much, but I think it’s too “out there”. What do you think??)
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Forsythia[/name] (not sold yet)
Keshet ([name]Rainbow[/name] in Hebrew)
[name]Minerva[/name]
[name]Amethyst[/name] (This keeps getting taken off my list because it’s my mothers birth stone and I don’t wish to honor her. But I love it, so it keeps coming back!)
[name]Tempest[/name] (too harsh?)

Please give me your opinion on all these names.
I’m still figuring out my boy’s name list. I will post that another time! [name]Feel[/name] free to give me some boy’s suggestions based off my girl’s list.

THANK YOU

[name]Celeste[/name] - Like
[name]Mercy[/name] - does come off as religious, as most faith words do (faith, hope, grace)
Lua - I prefer [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Isis[/name] - I prefer [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Aquila[/name] - prefer it on a boy
Melanite - better as a middle, too much for a first name, what about [name]Melanie[/name]?
[name]Opal[/name] - like
[name]Marigold[/name] - like
[name]Wisteria[/name] - it’s okay, better in the middle imo
[name]Gemini[/name] - too much for a first name, better in the middle
[name]Flora[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Forsythia[/name] - like
Keshet - not unless you’re Jewish and even then you might not want to: http://www.keshetonline.org/
[name]Minerva[/name] - like
[name]Amethyst[/name] - like, but thinks it works better in the middle
[name]Tempest[/name] - yes, too harsh

Some suggestions:
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Artemisia[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Fauna[/name]
[name]Fawn[/name]
[name]Calliope[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Selena[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]
[name]Electra[/name]
[name]Anthea[/name]
[name]Andromeda[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]

[name]Celeste[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this. Far back in elementary school I had a math teacher named [name]Celeste[/name]. She was a bright person.
[name]Mercy[/name] - Religious. Dislike.
Lua - I think this can stand on it’s own. It has a soft sound that I like. You might also like Yua or [name]Yuna[/name]/Yuuna?
[name]Isis[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name].
[name]Aquila[/name] - I’d like it on either gender.
Melanite - Not sold.
[name]Opal[/name] - Cute, but it’s not my favorite gem name by far.
[name]Marigold[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name, I say go for it.
[name]Wisteria[/name] - It’d be an interesting floral name. I like it for someone else’s child rather than mine.
[name]Gemini[/name] - It’s a cool name, but not totally usable in my mind.
[name]Flora[/name] - Sweet name.
[name]Forsythia[/name] - It’s all right, but I prefer Forsythe (for a boy)
Keshet - Reminds me too much of Ke$ha from the sound/spelling.
[name]Minerva[/name] - I like the idea of it, and of possible nickname [name]Minnie[/name], but I can’t totally get behind [name]Minerva[/name].
[name]Amethyst[/name] - Coincidentally my (not so close) mother has this birthstone as well. I couldn’t get past the association in my life, but it’s up to you if you can in yours. Objectively, I think it’s a pretty name.
[name]Tempest[/name] - Not too harsh, I just think of strength, as a tempest is a powerful sort of storm. I like the name.

I agree that [name]Mercy[/name] is too religious. [name]Gemini[/name] is just not usable.
I am half Jewish, but I’m not sold on Keshet. That website does not bother me. On the other hand, the similarity to Ke$ha bothers me! All in all, I have better options.
My (not so close) mother  wears amethyst a lot, so I don’t think I can get past the association either.

[name]Mercy[/name], [name]Gemini[/name] and [name]Amethyst[/name] is taken off “the list”

All of catloverd’s suggestions didn’t work for me for various reasons. But thank you!

What about [name]Vespera[/name]? (evening star)

Stars/[name]Sky[/name]

[name]Alula[/name] - “first leap” - since this is your first child
[name]Danica[/name] - Scandinavian - morning star
[name]Roxana[/name] - dawn, little star
[name]Phoebe[/name] - relates to the moon
[name]Seren[/name] - Welsh - star
[name]Sidra[/name] - Latin (?) - like a star
[name]Tamsin[/name] - means twin (a nod to [name]Gemini[/name])
[name]Tana[/name] - Greek (?) - fire/star goddess

Gems
[name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] - means pearl

From your list I really love [name]Flora[/name], [name]Opal[/name], and [name]Marigold[/name] and might suggest [name]Florence[/name].

I love the name [name]Aquila[/name] for a girl! My nieces middle name is Quillard (her first is [name]Patricia[/name] after her late grandmother) and she goes by Quil. I think it is such an adorable nickname for [name]Aquila[/name].

[name]Celeste[/name]: pretty. I slightly prefer [name]Celestia[/name] for you.
[name]Mercy[/name]: too religious for my taste.
Lua: I think it could stand alone or as a nickname for [name]Luna[/name].
[name]Isis[/name]: eh, I have never seen the appeal.
[name]Aquila[/name]: I always thought this worked better on a girl. [name]Love[/name] the suggestion of Quila as a nn.
Melanite: I would prefer just [name]Garnet[/name] as a name.
[name]Opal[/name]: a great gem name. Probably my favorite of the gems.
[name]Marigold[/name]: love! [name]Love[/name] nn [name]Goldie[/name].
[name]Wisteria[/name]: love this name! [name]Love[/name] the nn possibilities.
[name]Gemini[/name]: I see why you love it (I love it too), but I think it is a little too out there. It might work as a mn especially if your wee one will be born under this sign.
[name]Flora[/name]: pretty. I prefer [name]Flora[/name] as a nickname as [name]Florence[/name]. In terms of flower inspired names there are other ones that I prefer much more.
[name]Forsythia[/name]: not a fan, sorry.
Keshet: not a fan, sorry.
[name]Minerva[/name]: love nn [name]Minnie[/name] or [name]Mina[/name]. A little too old lady for my taste, but a lovely name nonetheless.
[name]Amethyst[/name]: one of those names that I love but I don’t know if I can picture it on an actual child.
[name]Tempest[/name]: eh fine as a mn, but I prefer [name]Temperance[/name].

You have a great list. I would suggest:

Spacey
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Nova[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]/[name]Serene[/name] ([name]Seren[/name] means star)
[name]Aquarius[/name] (again, the whole sign thing would be a deal breaker for me, but since you like [name]Gemini[/name] and [name]Aquila[/name] maybe you’ll like it)
[name]Soleil[/name]
[name]Callista[/name]

Floral
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name]
[name]Aster[/name]
[name]Jonquil[/name]

Gems
[name]Emerald[/name] (it’s out there a prob not your taste, but I think it’s usable)
[name]Almandine[/name]
[name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Saphira[/name] (stretch for [name]Sapphire[/name])

[name]Celeste[/name] - like it.
[name]Mercy[/name] - not my sryle
Lua - Surprisingly, I don’t want Lua as [name]Luna[/name]'s nn (though I love, [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Luna[/name]), I prefer Lua as a stand alone
[name]Isis[/name] - pretty
[name]Aquila[/name] - I prefer it for girls too.
Melanite (It’s a garnet) - never heard this one before, not sure I like it.
[name]Opal[/name] - okay.
[name]Marigold[/name] - okay.
[name]Wisteria[/name] - I like it, but I’m thinking about hysteria.
[name]Gemini[/name] - no.
[name]Flora[/name] - neutral.
[name]Forsythia[/name] - like it.
Keshet - dislike
[name]Minerva[/name] - like
[name]Amethyst[/name] - ok
[name]Tempest[/name] - doesn’t sounds harsh to me.
[name]Vespera[/name] - like.

if religious names are off limits mythological names are off limits too o_O those are from religions…

ps dont be embarrassed about having no one to honor, people go overboard with that i think. ‘you were a normal dad and did exactly what you were supposed to! lets name a baby after you!’ unnecessary and boring in my opinion.

I’m not keen on religious names either, yet though I know mythological names are essentially religious, they have a different tone to me that makes them seem separate from being religious. The poster may feel the same?

I don’t know…I don’t think [name]Mercy[/name] HAS to be a religious name. I love it and I know an [name]Eden[/name], a [name]Hope[/name] and a [name]Grace[/name] whose parents aren’t really religious.

[name]Celeste[/name] - like this one
[name]Mercy[/name] - like this one, but I think it’s overall religious, what a shame
Lua - to me, this seems that someone misheard [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Isis[/name] - love this one
[name]Aquila[/name] - dislike, but not because it’s a male name
Melanite - love the sound, but reminded me of melanoma
[name]Opal[/name] - it’s OK
[name]Marigold[/name] -love this one, as well
[name]Wisteria[/name] - it’s OK
[name]Gemini[/name] - too out there
[name]Flora[/name] - perfect
[name]Forsythia[/name] - dislike
Keshet ([name]Rainbow[/name] in Hebrew) - dislike
[name]Minerva[/name] - this name always seemed masculine
[name]Amethyst[/name] - love
[name]Tempest[/name] - too harsh, maybe for a boy would be perfect

First up, Congratulations!

[name]Celeste[/name] is beautiful.
[name]Mercy[/name] it doesn’t seem anymore religious than [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Hope[/name], they are virtues so valued across all religions.
Lua is pretty on its own what language is it? full name options could be [name]Lucinda[/name] (possibly not your style), or [name]Luana[/name] (means content(hiwaiian))
[name]Isis[/name] my cousin has an [name]Isis[/name]. Beautiful, and a good goddess to be named after.
[name]Aquila[/name] can definatly work for a girl. I quite like [name]Quill[/name] on its own too, but wouldn’t be brave enough to use it.
Melanite (It’s a garnet) Prefur [name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Opal[/name] ok
[name]Marigold[/name] cute!
[name]Wisteria[/name] I like the flower but can’t picture the name on a child
[name]Gemini[/name] meh,NMS
[name]Flora[/name] love [name]Flora[/name]!!! There’s a margarine brand in Aus called [name]Flora[/name] so it’s out for me… grr
[name]Forsythia[/name] nms
Keshet ([name]Rainbow[/name] in Hebrew) this could definatly work! [name]Minerva[/name] love. [name]Minnie[/name] and [name]Eva[/name] are wonderful nn possibilities!
[name]Amethyst[/name] Nms but [name]Amey[/name] makes a useable nn
[name]Tempest[/name] not too harsh, the pest part bothers me though.

[name]Mariposa[/name] (butterfly)
Citrine
[name]Posey[/name]
[name]Dalia[/name] goddess of luck/fate
Are other suggestions for girls

For boys
[name]Orson[/name] (bear)
[name]Jonquil[/name]
[name]Dov[/name]
[name]Thor[/name]
[name]Odin[/name]
[name]Orion[/name]

Goodluck

GIRLS:

[name]Celeste[/name] - I’ve never liked this name. It rhymes with something incredibly unflattering and I can’t get past it.

[name]Mercy[/name] - Its not religious to me. Its actually more musical. Its pretty neat, though lacking character.

Lua - I love [name]Lu[/name] names. Lua could be a nickname for [name]Alouetta[/name], which is a bird. [name]Luana[/name], the hawaiian name is a good suggestion. Its whimsical and naturey.

[name]Isis[/name] - It just doesn’t sound like a nice name to have as a child, and as a woman it might seem cold or unapproachable.

[name]Aquila[/name] - Quil

Melanite - [name]Mel[/name] names… not a fan…

[name]Opal[/name] - Cute and quirky. I like O names; they’re rare in diversity these days.

[name]Marigold[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name. Always loved it. [name]Chrysanthemum[/name] also comes to mind.

[name]Wisteria[/name] - Very neat, I like it a lot. But I’m not sure if its wearable. It could be, no rules right?

[name]Gemini[/name] - Very hippy. [name]Gemma[/name] would be a chic alternative, and it means jewel.

[name]Flora[/name] - This is alright. It’s lacking character, to me anyway.

[name]Forsythia[/name] - Beautiful and great alternative to [name]Cynthia[/name], which is equally beautiful.

Keshet - Ehhhhh

[name]Minerva[/name] - Lacks character, also nickname would most likely often be [name]Minnie[/name]. [name]Minerva[/name] Mouse is actually [name]Minnie[/name] Mouse’s full name.

[name]Amethyst[/name] If this is a middle, that’s not so bad. If its a first your mom would definitely know about it and think you honored her. Also I don’t think this is very wearable for a child or grown adult.

[name]Tempest[/name] - Its beautiful and powerful. [name]Temple[/name] also comes to mind.

Question: Are these your middle names or your first names you like?

And as for a boy, [name]Jasper[/name] immediately comes to mind. Its a stone, but its also not completely out there, so it’s very wearable. Its also got a lot of spunk, if I say so myself.
