Floral sibset?

I love flower/plant names on girls.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] ([name_f]Rose[/name_f]), [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Liana[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], et cetera.

While my tastes may change by the time I have a daughter, would it be weird to have siblings all with floral names?

E.g.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
et cetera.

Or would it be overkill?
What do you think?

I think it would be a very cute and memorable theme. Maybe overkill to some people, but I don’t think so.

I also think it would be very sweet!

I think it’s cute. The only time I deem a sib set theme overkill is when every sibling name sounds alike. Like [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_f]Mariel[/name_f], [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], etc. I like the themes of Greek mythology, floral/plant, names starting with the same letter, all short names, all long names with a nn, etc.

It really depends on what names you choose. It can sound lovely and sweet or not very nice. Like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] sound lovely and sweet together. [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] sound lovelier than [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. The latter is not terrible but with the two names with a long E it starts heading toward too cutesie. And you can go way too cutesie.

I adore botanical names too, but for me three in a row would be overkill, unless they were all middle names. I’d want to avoid giving all my daughters purely decorative names, dressing them in pink all the time, that kind of thing. But it’s a personal choice - nothing wrong with fun feminine names if that’s what appeals to you.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] are my favorites of your choices.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the idea of a floral themed sibset, though I also worry that it would be too cutesy. Then again, I would have gotten such a kick out of sharing flower names with hypothetical sisters, so who knows?

From your list, my favorite set is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], though I would prefer [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] slightly more.

Personally, I would love to have girls named [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]…there are so many gorgeous botanical names, it’s hard to choose!

I Like them, but getting over the exotic dancer name trifecta of car/flower/stone is proving difficult. Three flowers might sound a little too pre-shift locker room to me, but people who don’t/haven’t had contact with strippers might not notice.

it would be less overkill than people who name all of their children names starting with the same letter…these sound nice, but every kid in school would know of your family…it draws a lot of attention

watch hart of dixie and see how many characters names are similar

maybe tweak them so not so literal…for the same feeling

im not sure boys would like to be included in this…

depends where you live too…this fits in well in the south…

So kind of like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?

I live very south… Australia.

I read a book about sisters named [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] & [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and I was jealous of their names (when I was like 12). I think it’s sweet. I would love to have a sister with a name similar in theme to mine as long as it sounded completely different. But what if you had say 2 girls and then a boy?

[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] is a total gp of mine.

I don’t think it’s overkill if it is done tastefully with awareness of other flow factors. For me, [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be a no-go because it seems like the greatest concern was with the theme, while abandoning flow. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be fine, but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] simply clash in sound.

I think [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is lovely. I also like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] together, but I don’t really think [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] fits with them stylistically. They are both fun and lively while [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is more traditional and sophisticated.

One caveat though, if I met sisters with all floral names I would be a bit disappointed if their brothers didn’t have plant/nature names too OR a different, yet equally obvious theme.

I like it best when at least some of the flowers are fairly subtle. I wouldn’t just tick off [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], you know? Also I love flower names in general but not every single flower name.

Botanical sibsets I adore:

  1. [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] - Would anyone even notice these were flowers? I would. I love these.
  2. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and [name_f]Briar[/name_f] - my wild girls. I see these as beautiful but tough and somewhat somber girls.
  3. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], and [name_f]Viola[/name_f] - old-fashioned, but gentler than my second category.
  4. [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Cicely[/name_f], - [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is light, [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is proper. I feel like these are the three that
  5. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] - to me these two go together as sort of floral-adjacent, involving a flower but not being a proper flower. Lilybeth/[name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalba[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] etc all go here, but I like some more than others. They pair with each other better than with straight-up flower names [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

In real life I’d be tempted to make some first names and some middles though. 1 floral name per customer, but not all up front. And for middles, I could see getting into more offbeat picks like [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] or [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f].

Some florals feel easier to sibset than others to me. I’m not sure WHAT I’d match to [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], even though I like it.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable, kind of sweetly old-fashioned, really. [name_f]My[/name_f] preference though (whether floral-themed or not) are names that compliment and flow nicely together without sounding too ‘samey’, for instance I much prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] as a sibset over [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].

I think it’s sweet

A floral theme is such a GP for me:) I think it’s doable, definitely, but it’s not for everyone. I intend to give my daughters (should I ever have some) floral middle names:)

I ran into a sibsets with the names [name_f]Summer/name_f, [name_f]April/name_fand [name_u]Winter[/name_u] (boy), all their middles were [name_f]Rose[/name_f], their mother’s surname… They did just fine, in fact one named their daughter [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] [name_f]Myfanwy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]… I also, read an old 1896 newpaper article about a pastor who ran into a whole slew of sister on a train, all with floral names who told the pastor that they had other floral named sisters buried in a better garden up above. I don’t see a problem with it personally…

I think it depends on which names you choose. I know a sib-set that has both [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] in it ([name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_m]Roderick[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]) which I think is fine but people might think you are trying to do a [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] if all the names are flower or nature names.

I’m actually thinking about doing the same, but with middle names. I will probably use [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] (my first name and a family name) for one of them and I really like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. So I think you should go for it.
