What does everyone think of the name [name]Florence[/name]? We like the nicknames [name]Floss[/name] or [name]Flossie[/name] for it. What do you think?
Thanks, [name]Eli[/name]

I love [name]Florence[/name]! My great grandmother was named [name]Florence[/name], and she went by the nickname [name]Flossie[/name]. I definitely think you should use it!
It’s tied for first place as my favourite name! Earlier this year, we were going to adopt two little girls and I had named them [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name] (and [name]Maeve[/name] was almost [name]Iris[/name]!) The adoption fell through, but I feel like those two names have been used in my heart, and so if ever I do get a little girl I will have to find new names. I would love to know there was another little [name]Flossie[/name] out there! It’s a gorgeous, elegant, timeless name and [name]Flossie[/name] is the spunkiest, sweetest nickname there is!
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Florence[/name] it is gorgeous, classic, underused and has great namesake. But I’m hesitant on the nn [name]Floss[/name] or [name]Flossie[/name], I think it’s adorable and would fit in with the crowd who hangs around nameberry, but I could just see little kids teasing her on the playground, especially if you’re in the US
It’s a fine, classic name. However, I like the first half of the name best, and am less fond of the second half. I prefer [name]Flora[/name].
It feels a little dated to me, but it is my husbands mom’s name. I prefer flora if you are looking for something similar.
Thanks everyone, We were thinking of [name]Florence[/name] [name]June[/name] - What do you think? With the nickname issues are there any other nicknames that you think are better?
I think it’s a beautiful name, usually overlooked. It’s funny, I see a lot of the same vintage names suggested over and over on nameberry–all names that I like in theory, but after seeing them in everyone’s vintage lists so often they start to feel kind of, eh, to me… but [name]Florence[/name] is one that still seems fresh to me when I hear it. I like the nn [name]Flo[/name]. Not sure if that sounds too ‘50s waitress’ for many. You could also use Lo.
[name]Hi[/name] everyone, I’m a bit concerned with [name]Flora[/name] that it is too flowery… I mean what if she’s a tomboy? I was thinking [name]Florence[/name] is a little less… I may be overthinking but what do you think? Thanks, [name]Eli[/name]
[name]Florence[/name] [name]June[/name] is adorable! I like the pp suggestion of [name]Flo[/name] or you could call her [name]Flora[/name] and if she does turn out to be a tomboy, shorten it to [name]Flo[/name]
Some other nicknames, they may be a bit of a stretch but…
[name]Lore[/name]
[name]Lorie[/name]
[name]Ori[/name]
[name]Ren[/name]
[name]Oren[/name]
[name]Fifi[/name]
Fi
I should probably add that what ever nickname we use will probably only be while she’s a baby… She would be called [name]Florence[/name] by us the majority of the time, using [name]Flossie[/name] as a sort of pet name along the lines of “sweetheart” etc. type endearments…
I think we are now between [name]Florence[/name] [name]June[/name] and [name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Eve[/name]. What do you think? Would they work as sisters if we ever have another daughter?
Thanks [name]Eli[/name]
