After some more thought after my last post, maybe [name_u]Florian[/name_u] isn’t too long, it fits all of my criteria (nature name, saint name) husband likes it and it fits with my other kids.
Have those of you in the US met anyone named [name_u]Florian[/name_u]? I think it’s my top, but I know my family will think it’s weird, so I won’t be asking their is opinions.i made that mistake with my first two kids and they made weird cringe faces at both names so yeah…
[name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] or [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] are what I’m liking rt now.

I’m in the US and have never met a [name_u]Florian[/name_u], personally. But, I don’t think it’s too “out there” to use. [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] is very handsome!

Florian [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] are both amazing. Though it would be different in the US, it is certainly not the most unusual I’ve ever heard. I love your list of criteria for a name, and I think it fits well. Good luck in deciding.

Such a handsome name! I do know a [name_u]Florian[/name_u] who lives in the states, but he’s from [name_f]France[/name_f]. I think it would work fine for a boy here!

While it’s certainly unique, [name_u]Florian[/name_u] has familiar sounds and therefore I don’t think it’ll stick out very much at all! It’s easily said easily spelled so I think it’s really perfect for you!

Not in the US, but offering some of my thoughts!
- Kids have very basic taste in names. Not sure how old yours are but when I was little I only liked names I heard on cartoons on TV. So don’t be discouraged by their reaction!
- While I don’t think [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is too feminine at all, even if he did grow up to find it too feminine he could always go by one of its masculine nicknames, like [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], or the more unisex [name_u]Ori[/name_u]

I’m in the US, never met a [name_u]Florian[/name_u] but have met a Jorian so it sounds a little familiar to me. I really like it. It’s got handsome and dignified vibe to me. NN [name_m]Ian[/name_m], maybe? [name_u]Rory[/name_u]? I like [name_m]Peter[/name_m] the best. I think a 2syllable MN would be best with it. I’m a fan of long names, though. Definitely agree with not sharing name picks before baby is here.

Not US but UK which has some similarities. I went to school with a [name_u]Florian[/name_u] ~5 years ago and nobody thought anything of his name.
Anyway, I do really like the name. And agree with others that children can always find nicknames anyway if they need them.

I love it! I’ve only ever met (continental) European Florians – mostly from [name_u]Germany[/name_u] – and I think it’s a really handsome, dashing, romantic name. I’ve never met one here in the UK but my husband has worked with a British [name_u]Florian[/name_u] who is very artistic and the name serves him very well to add to that artsy flair
Personally, I love the simple, solid [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. It sounds whimsical but strong, with a touch of swashbuckling charm.

Florian is great! I think it shares sounds with more popular names like [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]Nolan[/name_u] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Kian[/name_m] that it doesn’t sound too out there. I like it
Florian [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is great - [name_m]Jack[/name_m] adds something bright and quick

Good on you for not asking your families’ opinions
[name_u]Florian[/name_u] is a beautiful name. Who cares if they think it’s weird, they’ll learn to love it when they meet him.
I am in NZ, but have never met a [name_u]Florian[/name_u] anywhere. Imho it’s an absolutely stunning name that manages to be as strong as it is gentle. It’s easy to pronounce too.
I like [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] out of your combos, since [name_u]Florian[/name_u] & [name_m]John[/name_m] share an O sound, and I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] feels a little blunt and off-balance with [name_u]Florian[/name_u].

Oh I like [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m]! [name_u]Haven[/name_u]’t met a human [name_u]Florian[/name_u] (only one pet goat) but I think it would be great for a little boy!

I’ve never met or even heard of anyone called [name_u]Florian[/name_u], and I live in the US. I do think it’s a totally usable name as I have met multiple [name_u]Julian[/name_u]’s, [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]’s, and [name_m]Damian[/name_m]’s, and [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is a pretty similar name imo if a little rarer. Might get a look or two from major Disney fans who know it’s (one of two accepted names for) the [name_m]Prince[/name_m] in [name_u]Snow[/name_u] White, but that’s my only hesitation and I hardly think that’s a deal breaker. [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] is my favorite combo you suggested, but [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] is also lovely.

I’m not in the US nor do I have any anecdotal experience of meeting someone, but the SSA data shows [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is very rare in the US. The greatest number of babies named [name_u]Florian[/name_u] was in 1921 with 125 boys and 5 girls. The name’s peak usage was between 1913 and 1934 where the number of babies named in each given year was greater than 50. It was given to a handful of girls a few times during this peak. Numbers have remained very low since, usually less than 20 births, and there’s no sign of that changing. In the most recent data I can locate, there were 22 boys named [name_u]Florian[/name_u] in 2018.
It sounds like a truly terrific option for you. I think it only feels a bit wobbly because it’s rarely heard. That doesn’t mean it won’t be accepted or that it will be hard to spell or pronounce. I don’t think any of those things will be an issue for [name_u]Florian[/name_u]. It’s unexpected, but intuitive in every other way. It clearly has long history as a name, I think that helps. Your middle name ideas are handsome. I like the gentlemanly feeling of [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m], the juxtaposition and playfulness of [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and the quiet strength of [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. If you like nicknames, I could see [name_u]Fen[/name_u] working. If you go with [name_m]Peter[/name_m], you could use [name_u]Flip[/name_u]!

I love [name_u]Florian[/name_u]! It’s unusual, and I’ve never met one, but I don’t think it’s too much. I love all the middles you’ve paired with it- they balance it out so well!

I am in the US and have never heard [name_u]Florian[/name_u] used on anyone. I don’t think it’s too out there at all. I would love to see it used! It has the same feel as [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] to me.
I love the nicknames of [name_u]Florian[/name_u] as well: [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Ori[/name_u]. It fits with the nature names that are becoming quite the trend in the US, so he’ll fit in well. I like [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] the best. [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] just seem to plain next to [name_u]Florian[/name_u]. What about [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]?

I mean, I feel like those are the most important things, so it seems like a great choice for you! I have never met a [name_u]Florian[/name_u], but it sounds so stylish and European.
Good! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t ask for their opinions. Use the name you love, and they will get used to it once they see their little grandson/nephew/etc. wearing it. If it makes you feel better, it happened in my family. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother HATED the name my aunt chose for her youngest, even threatened to call the baby by her middle name, but my aunt used it anyway. It wasn’t long after the baby was born that my grandmother gave up and got used to it. Now, almost ten years later, she loves it, and none of us could imagine her with a different name!
All three of those combos are charming, btw!
