I have loved [name]Florian[/name] for years. I am [name]German[/name] so the name directly reflects my culture, I love that it isn’t in the Top 1000 popularity wise, and I like the idea of the nickname [name]Lore[/name] (if a nickname will be used at all.) My favorite name combo has been [name]Florian[/name] [name]Luca[/name]/[name]Lucca[/name] for years.
I also love the name [name]Dorian[/name], as does my SO. However, it is currently ranked 500, so definitely more popular than [name]Florian[/name] although still not extremely popular. It does have a literary connection, which is nice. Obviously we can’t use both names in the future, so I was curious as to which name fellow NB’ers preferred.
(For the record, my SO and I are not expecting or TTC at the moment, but we do like to plan for the future)
I like [name]Florian[/name] much better. It sounds exotic and romantic, yet masculine at the same time. [name]Dorian[/name] just doesn’t compare and sounds more plain.
[name]Both[/name] [name]Dorian[/name] and [name]Florian[/name] would be unusual choices for a boy but that’s half the charm. [name]Dorian[/name] has a literary association even though [name]Oscar[/name] Wilde’s [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Gray[/name] was a pretty decadent character. The Dorians were an ancient Greek tribe. [name]Florian[/name] is a saint name and popular in [name]Austria[/name], Germany and Belgium. I once knew a woman from the Philippines with this name. [name]Florian[/name] has a more exotic vibe to it whereas some people still think [name]Dorian[/name] is a dusty old lady name. On a boy, [name]Dorian[/name] would certainly sound more fresh and vibrant. I can see the appeal of [name]Florian[/name] [name]Luca[/name] and you have loved it for years so I think you should go with that combo! Good luck, [name]Mischa[/name].
[name]Dorian[/name] tooootally makes me think of this, the world’s most hideously stinky fruit:

Therefore, go [name]Florian[/name]!
