Flower Names

I seem to have a thing for flower names, and I’m looking for some fresh ideas, I know there’s lots of lists out there, but I don’t know what ones could work as names (Seaflower appeared as a name once…but I can’t imagine a little child being called Seaflower, or seeing Seaflower on a class attendance sheet).

The only one I dislike is [name_f]Rose[/name_f], as it’s too plain, but I do have a thing for ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f]’ names - [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], etc. so suggestions for them would be great too!

[name_u]Rosario[/name_u], [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] either line or lean ending

Rosary, [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f]…I tend to like the [name_f]Marie[/name_f] at the end instead of [name_f]Mary[/name_f], it changed it more than I thought it would

[name_f]Rosaria[/name_f], [name_f]Roseanne[/name_f], [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosette[/name_f], or [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f]

Enough roses…
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f], and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

[name_f]Calla[/name_f], Carnation, [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], [name_f]Begonia[/name_f]

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and Oleander

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f], Hibiscus, [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], and Azaelia

Rosabel, Rosabeth, and to be honest, I’m not sure if those are names.

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is one of my favourite flower names! Such sass and femininity.
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] is lovely and intriguing, [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is simple and strong, and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is unexpected.
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f] is another one of my favourites! I fell in love with it when I read Atonement.

ETA: And how could I forget Magnolia. One of my top names at the moment, it has a familiar sound that is quite elegant, but it still has spunk and character.

I have a huge, huge thing for flower names so I apologize if this post seems long or overblown.

My favourites include:
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f], [name_f]Acacia[/name_f], [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f]
Betony, [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f], Cleome, [name_f]Clary[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] - [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] is a kind of blue marguerite.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], Ixora
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
Kalmia
[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], Liatris
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], & [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nerine[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Rimona[/name_f] - I think of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] as separate from [name_f]Rose[/name_f]…? More blue herbal. [name_f]Rimona[/name_f] is
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Ximenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Zephirine[/name_f] - [name_f]Zephirine[/name_f] is cheating, but it’s a variety of thornless rose of which I am fond.

Names with “rose” in them: My favourites are [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalba[/name_f]. And [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] but I count it separate.

I didn’t know if you’d count translated florals but if you do I’m fond of [name_f]Cerise[/name_f], [name_f]Tamar[/name_f], [name_f]Jacinta[/name_f], [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f], [name_f]Nerida[/name_f], Rhoswen, Lilwen, Gwenonwy, [name_f]Ketzia[/name_f], [name_f]Rimona[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f]…? That runs the gamut of like six languages though.

I’m in love with
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]

Ooh, love what everyone else has posted!
I also love flower names; here are some favourites - sorry for the overload, but I’m a bit of a flower-name collector  (some have already been posted, so just count those as a vote in favour):

[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]/[name_f]Briony[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] or [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] (I know, this one’s a nameberry favourite, but it’s so sweet)
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]
Arnica - this one might seem to out there, but I know a gorgeous little [name_m]Arni[/name_m]; I love that it’s got such a cute and spunky nn
[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] - I love the crisp sound of this one
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] - sounds so simple and gentle to me.
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] - okay, this one’s herbal, but I like it as a mn
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] - so zesty and vivacious!
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] - I have a friend called [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], and she wears it well - it’s definitely not too unusual to be used.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Acacia[/name_f] - I know two Acacias, and again, it’s totally usable.
[name_f]Verbena[/name_f]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f] - love!
[name_f]Eglantine[/name_f] - it reminds me of vintage/antique names like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] in sound.
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f] - okay, it’s Swedish, but what a gorgeous name!
Flax - this one sounds pretty trendy, in the same strain as [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m], [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] et al.
Vervain
[name_f]Lucerne[/name_f] - this sounds similar to [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] (for a boy) or any number of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] variants for girls; it could probably be used for either gender depending on your tastes.
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] - I like that it sounds similar to [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], so it seems like an established name already.
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_m]Valerian[/name_m]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]

For rose names, I like:
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] - my favourite!
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosamond[/name_f] (this is actually from german roots and has to do with horses, but it does have a rather floral sound)
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (it does have vampiric associations - thanks, Twilight! - but it’s so pretty).
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] - maybe not very usable, but I love the look and sound of this name.

Now I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (It’s so beautiful and classic) as a FN but don’t care for it in the middle spot. I’m liking putting ‘filler’ names at the front ATM. I’d like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with a longer middle: [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] esque (big fan of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]).

[name_f]Coral[/name_f] is nice (not a flower exactly)

I just dislike it in general, I haven’t got a proper reason, but I don’t. It’s plain, and everyone I went to school with has it as a middle name - so I’m a bit sick of it. I do like [name_f]Coral[/name_f] though.

I’m going to use a slight flower theme in the middle names of any daughters I have.

My dd’s 2nd middle name is [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], which I adore.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a family name for me, so as of right now she’s on the list for the next dd: [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolina[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is also a family name and she actually goes by [name_f]Lily[/name_f], so if we had a 3rd dd right now that combo would be [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f].

I also have a close family friend that is [name_f]Hazle[/name_f] (no, that’s not a misspelling on my end), so I could use [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolina[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] d’fozzi… hmm that’s not too bad.

I really like the idea of giving all my children two middle names that are in some way honoring family. So while I love some other nature names (especially [name_f]Fern[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]) I don’t think they’re in the cards for me.

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] is my favourite flower name and I plan to use it as a middle one day. I also like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], Cleomé, [name_f]Orchid[/name_f], [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] and [name_f]Briar[/name_f].
