Spirulina
Ooh I love plenty of “out-there” names!
[name_f]Crescent[/name_f], Rosebloom, [name_f]Aquamarine[/name_f], [name_u]Vision[/name_u], Illuminate, Phosphorescence, Eosphoros, [name_f]Euphrosyne[/name_f], [name_f]Philophrosyne[/name_f], [name_f]Alchemy[/name_f] to name a few!
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f], and [name_f]Alouette[/name_f]
I know that especially [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] might sound ridicolous for some people, but I like it. It is probably an illegal name in my country (they banned [name_m]Friday[/name_m] on a kid some years ago) so it will be a GP of mine.
From the other responses I like [name_f]Edelweiss[/name_f], [name_f]Sunflower[/name_f], [name_f]Kiki[/name_f] and [name_f]Scholastica[/name_f], but I am not that bravw to use them for actual children. For characters yes though!!
[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] & [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f] would have to be my favourites! In another world, where they didn’t have the associations that they do and were accepted, I would’ve totally used them.
[name_f]Anemone[/name_f], [name_f]Hecate[/name_f], [name_f]Awilix[/name_f], Nephthys, Praxidike, [name_f]Lysistrata[/name_f], Myristica, Helike, Eldlilja, Agamede, Mnemosyne, Aristomeda, [name_f]Circe[/name_f] & [name_f]Medea[/name_f] are others on my list.
[name_f]Ivadell[/name_f] is one I’ve recently discovered that I love and would actually consider using, but I’d worry about it sounding like infidel. Blencathra which I’d never use as it’s the name of a mountain, but I love the sound.
[name_f]My[/name_f] long term wildcard faves are Stargazer and Seafarer
along with [name_u]Glow[/name_u], [name_u]Mariner[/name_u], Carisbrooke, [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f], Samphire and Pluck!
but recently, I’ve also thought of: [name_m]Ghost[/name_m] (I know, I know), [name_u]Golden[/name_u], [name_f]Canary[/name_f], City, Ibis, [name_f]Egret[/name_f], [name_u]Wildfire[/name_u], [name_f]Cascade[/name_f] and Glitter. They would be fun to make into combos!
As for more namey-names, [name_f]Angharad[/name_f], [name_m]Galahad[/name_m], [name_m]Algernon[/name_m], Cenwulf, and [name_m]Aramis[/name_m] have been on my mind
Ones I like for firsts: [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], [name_f]Peridot[/name_f], [name_u]January[/name_u], [name_u]Pepper[/name_u], [name_u]Cricket[/name_u], [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u], [name_u]November[/name_u], [name_f]Fauna[/name_f], [name_u]Fox[/name_u]
Ones I’d consider for middles: [name_f]Starlight[/name_f], [name_m]Petrichor[/name_m], [name_u]Bravery[/name_u], [name_f]Darling[/name_f], [name_u]Lightning[/name_u] (just saw this one on a poll and I’m obsessed, its so cool!), [name_u]Larkspur[/name_u], [name_m]Thorne[/name_m], [name_u]Kestrel[/name_u], [name_f]Daylily[/name_f], [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f]
[name_f]Philophrosyne[/name_f], [name_f]Scheherazade[/name_f], [name_f]Terpsichore[/name_f], [name_f]Briseida[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f], [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f] (my beloved)… Oh and these ridiculous Soviet names. Like [name_f]Elmira[/name_f] (from электрификация мира, "electrification of the world) Oktyabrina (to commemorate the [name_u]October[/name_u] revolution), Industrializatsiya (industrialisation), Krasarma (Red Army), Lemira (contracted form of "Lenin and the world revolution), Revolyutsiya (self explanatory), and my personal favourite, Traktorina ![]()
Same!! I like those ridicolous Soviet names too
I have Oktyabrina and Noyabrina in my GP lists and I love the sound of Revmira and the incredible name inventing creativity of so many Soviet names
Briseida / Briseide, Dulcinea, Sophronia, Euterpe, Scherasade, are in my GP extended lists as well
I like the idea of Confetti as a name. I also love the name [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f], meaning ‘my delight in her’ with the nn ‘Hepzi’. Don’t know if that’s ridiculous or not. Other ideas include Chiffon, [name_f]Mona[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], and [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f].
Today would have to go to Dovecote and [name_u]Makepeace[/name_u], two of my adored GP middles ![]()
Oh my gosh! This is so perfect! [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], Pugsley and [name_f]Mourning[/name_f]
How fabulous!!!
Ooh this is a fun thread!
[name_f]Adelheid[/name_f], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], [name_f]Cherry[/name_f], [name_f]Edelweiss[/name_f], [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_f]Petal[/name_f], [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f], [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], [name_f]Tuppence[/name_f] are ones that spring to mind
none of them are actually that ridiculous tbh ![]()
Just wanted to add I met a little Soul yesterday
How cute!!!
Edit: I love the names in my area ![]()

Hazel, the way I was on my way to make Ethel my NOTD and you just improved it?! Genius
also, have 100% considered Acre in the past…
@EloiseT Halcyon nn Hal is on my genuine ‘would use’ list! Husband loves it!
Okay, my most ‘ridiculous’ loves…
Ysabeau
Persimmon
Evenstar
Merrythought
Merryweather
Bonaventure (ngl this is creeping up my boy list though…)
Dearheart
Dawntreader (got me into trouble on the hot takes thread once lol)
Verðandi
Ithildin
Britomart
Honeysuckle!!! And just [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Cherry[/name_f], [name_f]Candy[/name_f], anthing cutesy like that.
When I was on a walk in the woods I thought of Fawnja, Lucresia, and Dandilla!
I adore a number of nature word names that aren’t at all mainstream: Acacia, Amaranth, Castanea, Cove, Cypress, Lake, Meadow, Moss, Ocean, Sorrel… Of these I think Cypress nn Cy and Castanea nn Cass are my favorites. Sorrel is probably the strangest?
Then there are the ones that are Hebrew and are only weird in a monolingual English context: Nahal (with the ch/kh sound), Chen (again, that ch/kh sound), Michal (more ch!) for a girl, and Moran (it’s a plant).
I also love Poet, which I imagine could seem ridiculous. If we have Taylors and Thatchers and Sawyers etc, why not a Poet?
Other names that some to mind: Galilee, Asherah, Inanna, Eilonwy, Elisende
Loved reading through this thread!
Mine would be Mayflower, Allium, Boheme, Ferelith, Lilivere, Whisper, Reverie, Lyric, Poem/Poet/Poesy/Poetry, Merivale, Cypress, Edelweiss, and I have more which I didn’t expect but maybe they are not that crazy but to me they are definitely GP that I wish I could use
Edit: Just realized I don’t have many for boys, well only Cypress. Let me add Cedar, Elwood/Elmwood, Quest, Quill, and Rune.
I love this thread! I’m adding [name_f]Gamora[/name_f] tonight. She’s too much for a child—I think—but she’s so bold and brash and outer-space beautiful! ![]()
