For the Love of Ridiculous

Today, Library & [name_f]Lullaby[/name_f] something with the heavy ‘l’ & ‘b’ sounds and lilty 3 syllables just appeals to me as well as the imagery they conjure up.

I know a thirty-something female Sorrel! She’s not even the first person I’ve met/heard of irl with the name, it feels relatively normal to me!

For some reason I think the word Violence would make such a pretty badass name. I would never use it, of course, but just a thought. Also, the word Laundry. Like isn’t that so cute

I’ve thought the same thing about Ativan and Sciatica! :joy: if only 🫶🏼 :smiling_face_with_tear:

[name_f]My[/name_f] ridiculousness gauge is permanently broken! I’ll hear you out on almost anything and give it ample consideration. We used my gp names on our IRL kids and luckily they love them.

A fellow Nameberry who turned into a good friend and also loves obscure names told me about 15 years ago that my dear loves [name_f]Argentina[/name_f] and [name_u]Florentine[/name_u], which were both on my Personal Top 50 (a list I edit about twice a year since 1985, for fun), were not usable.

So, I guess I’ll submit [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] and Finland from my current Top 50. I’d use any of them but maybe they’re ridiculous to others.

Perhaps the most obscure names I’ve been attracted to through the years are Maridley (I’ve only seen it in my family), [name_u]Lael[/name_u], and Lonnmia. You almost never find them anywhere in any reference which applied to our daughter’s name for many, many years, Wellsley, and still goes for IRL son Grantson and definitely their mn of Metz (son) and Michae (daughter).

I actually went to college with someone named [name_f]Scholastica[/name_f] and always thought it was really awesome

Cytheria is my #1 always. Part of me is relieved I had 2 boys so I didn’t have to agonize over whether I could actually use it or not.

BTW, [name_f]Chantilly[/name_f] is AWESOME!

@Lula-Rose I view [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] as totally usable. Granted, my taste is top level obscure.

[name_f]My[/name_f] Great Aunt [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] met an untimely death over a hundred years ago. [name_f]My[/name_f] son and his wife are naming their daughter after her [name_f]Clara[/name_f] (I am also [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] Clare), but son’s wife just can’t warm up to [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] in full bc of cow.

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] was named for her great aunt who also met an early death. [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f].

Blackbird and [name_f]Sonata[/name_f], I think, is about as crazy as my GPs go. Maybe [name_f]Sunflower[/name_f], [name_f]Wildflower[/name_f], or [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f], but I might be convinced to use those in real life one day.
