So we’re expecting another girl. First daughter is Flora
We had Forest picked out for a boy and I adored the combo. We don’t want more than 2 children. I know Forest is technically unisex, but what are people’s thoughts on this for a girl? Is it too masculine next to sister Flora?
Would also appreciate your thoughts on our other top names. My husband likes Stella and I like Hazel, we both like both but don’t feel particularly strongly about either at this point. Talk us into one of them?
Middle might be Hope or June (family names).

Ooh that’s cool. I really like it
That’s actually my fave of the three but [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] are also nice!

I’ve come across a woman called [name_u]Forest[/name_u] before
It’s so very cool and earthy - I like it. [name_u]Forest[/name_u] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] are a fun set - unexpected, yes, and maybe I’d assume [name_u]Forest[/name_u] was a boy at first, but I’d be pleasantly surprised!
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] is bright and warm, starry and lovely.
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is vintage, warm and sparky!
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] sort of feels like a mix of both?

Forest isn’t too masculine but I think Flora and Forest sound too similar. And together they remind me of the fairies from Sleeping Beauty.
Stella and Hazel are fantastic choices. I lean towards Hazel as a match for Flora as they have unique sounds/endings, but the same gentle vibe.
eta: I love the recommendation of Estelle!

Yes yes yes!!! I love [name_u]Forest[/name_u] for a girl!! [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] both go really well with [name_f]Flora[/name_f], but i slightly prefer [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] together.
Overall my favourite is [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u], I think they would make the most adorable sister set!

I’m personally not a fan of [name_u]Forest[/name_u] on a girl… it’s one where if I think you pick it you should maybe do the whole “Starbucks test” a few times and try to test this name out on yourself as much as you can to see what the initial reactions irl would be. Though a clear theme between [name_u]Forest[/name_u] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] there is a bit of a vibe mismatch when you’re talking about naming two girls. One seems feminine and familiar the other to me is more clearly masculine (maybe I can’t unsee [name_m]Tom[/name_m] Hanks) and as such out there. I could see [name_u]Willow[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], Fern…. Of your other choices I like [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] the best with [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. Follows the same vibe but a little more different than [name_f]Flora[/name_f].

I actually really like this idea!! [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u]! However, you really cannot go wrong because [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] are amazing with [name_f]Flora[/name_f], too. I think personally I’d pick [name_f]Stella[/name_f], but if I saw a birth announcement for a little [name_u]Forest[/name_u] [name_u]June[/name_u] with a sister named [name_f]Flora[/name_f] I would be absolutely over the moon with excitement!

I think [name_u]Forest[/name_u] would definitely work on a girl, but I find [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u] a bit too matchy together (it just makes me think of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] & Fauna).
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] are both lovely — I especially like the idea of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]. That way they still share the nature connection, but it’s more subtle. I’m not sure if you’re wanting other ideas, but here are a few that might get the ball rolling for you:
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] / [name_f]Theda[/name_f]

[name_f]Una[/name_f] / [name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_u]Juno[/name_u] (not sure if you’d be open to this or if you’d just prefer [name_u]June[/name_u] in the middle?)
[name_f]Melba[/name_f]
[name_f]Zita[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] / [name_u]Mina[/name_u] / [name_f]Bina[/name_f] / [name_f]Lina[/name_f] / [name_f]Lena[/name_f]

I find Forest quite self-possessed and beautiful on a girl/woman but I kinda agree about the Flora and Fauna thing - maybe not enough to stop its use - kids spend most of their lives as individuals not as sibsets so if it’s your fave, you should use it! (But it would stop me.) I otherwise like Hazel to match Flora but marginally prefer Stella as a name.

Massive congratulations!!

[name_u]Forest[/name_u] is fabulous and I do love the name with [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
However I do prefer [name_u]Forest[/name_u] for a boy. I just strongly associate [name_u]Forest[/name_u] with boys and in my mind find wrapping my head around [name_u]Forest[/name_u] for boys a bit challenging. [name_u]Forest[/name_u] just feels so established for boys unlike other nature choices like [name_u]River[/name_u] or [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. I also think because [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is so classic [name_u]Forest[/name_u] feels a little off. I don’t know maybe pop culture references make [name_u]Forest[/name_u] feel more on the boy camp for me. I think [name_u]Forest[/name_u] could make a cool middle name maybe [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_u]Forest[/name_u] I know the name is descriptive but ever so whimsical. I actually love [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_u]Forest[/name_u].
Looking at your other options I prefer [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] over [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is just softer, prettier, has cottagecore imagery and is ever so charming. I think [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] + [name_f]Flora[/name_f] are just perfection.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

I think [name_u]Forest[/name_u] is great for a girl. But I am excited to share that I came across the name Forestine and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and Forestine are just the best combo.

I personally really like [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], it has such a home sorta warm feeling to it. Very pretty. [name_u]Forest[/name_u] does look more tomboy, especially next to sister named [name_f]Flora[/name_f], but it has lots of personality and I think it’s unique, but not too unique. I really like it! [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is pretty as well.

Congrats!
Ooh, I can see why you’re pondering Forest… “Flora & Forest” sound so beautifully woodsy together! I must admit, however, that I do find [name_u]Forest[/name_u] more of a masculine name, especially in contrast to [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
Your other options are both gorgeous! [name_f]Flora[/name_f] & [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] sound absolutely lovely together, with great botanical vibes (plus [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is one of my all-time faves). Having said that, I think my vote tips just slightly in favour of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] & Stella… the combined flower & star imagery is exquisite!
(And re middles: [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_u]June[/name_u] & [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] are equally beautiful… both combos conjure up warm summer evenings, to my ear!)

I am a fan of boy names on girls but I am not feeling [name_u]Forest[/name_u] with [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]. Other suggestions [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] would be sweet.

Yes yes yes!! I absolutely ADORE [name_u]Forest[/name_u] for a girl. While the matching with [name_f]Flora[/name_f] may be a tad much, I think it’s really sweet. I also really like [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]
. Good luck!

Thank you everyone, you’ve confirmed my feelings about it. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u] would have been adorable for a b/g sibset, but it doesn’t feel right for 2 girls.
I feel similarly about [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] as I did about [name_f]Flora[/name_f], no big fanfare around it, it just feels “right”. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get hubby back on side. He was all for [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] until I suggested [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and now he won’t let it go
Sorry if I sound rude, but myself cannot see [name_u]Forest[/name_u] like a girl (to me it is a super masculine name like [name_u]Edward[/name_u], so I struggled trying to think about it but I couldn’t) because of the sound, not the meaning. (I am not from an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country, so this might change the perspective. Here gender perspectives on names are more fixated and mostly by sound and not meaning, while I know that in the US nature names tend to be neutral.)
I think that [name_u]Forest[/name_u] for you could still be very cool. You have had a lot of positive comments and I think that you should name your child what you think it is the best for her, and I hope you a great naming journey!
I think that [name_u]Forest[/name_u] has all your emotions and good wishes for her, so don’t worry if someone off internet thinks that [name_u]Forest[/name_u] has a masculine sound. Sometimes this isn’t the important. The important is it the meaning you give in the name. After all sounds are totally subjective. [name_m]Dan[/name_m] is masculine in [name_f]English[/name_f] / [name_m]German[/name_m] and feminine in Chinese. (I met both a masculine [name_m]Dan[/name_m] and a woman Dan).
So, sounds and sensations change for people to people, but… your emotions and your wishes do not.
So don’t worry at all! You will go fine
Whatever name your daughter will have, it will be a beautiful name because of the meaning you gave her and how much you wish the name to give her so much meaning, not for the opinion of a stranger, or of a sound!
About the names you last time mentioned, I liked [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] with [name_f]Flora[/name_f]!
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is so melodious too
Never heard a girl called [name_u]Forest[/name_u] but I love it!! I don’t think it’s too masculine–it sort of balances out delicate [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. And they pair well, both being botanical(ish) names. I love the alliteration.
[name_u]Forest[/name_u] [name_f]Hope[/name_f], I think, sounds sort of awkward. And it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] has the same problem. But I love [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]!
I love your enthusiasm for [name_f]Stella[/name_f] - could you tell me everything you love about it? I would love to be convinced!
