Forest for a girl?

[name_m]Can[/name_m] [name_m]Forest[/name_m] work on a baby girl? [name_m]Or[/name_m] would too many people immediately assume she’s a boy?

[name_f][/name_f]

Does [name_m]Forest[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] sound too similar for siblings?

[name_f][/name_f]

Thanks

I really like [name_m]Forest[/name_m] for a girl, to me most nature names are pretty unisex. I would say giving her a more feminine middle would help solidify that she’s a girl. [name_m]Forest[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] are fine, they’re similar, but not unusable x

I think all nature words can be gender neutral, why not? I think a girl named [name_m]Forest[/name_m] would be really cool! [name_m]You[/name_m] probably would get assumptions from some people, meeting her for the first time, but I’ve always found when meet someone with an unexpected name for their gender that it becomes ‘normal’ very quickly (eg I know a little girl called [name_m]Ryan[/name_m] and it doesn’t faze me at all anymore).

[name_f][/name_f]

I don’t think [name_m]Forest[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] are too close for sibs at all, but I do think having [name_m]Forest[/name_m] (g) with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (b) would make people slightly more likely to assume [name_m]Forest[/name_m] wad a boy because [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is an expected boy name, if that makes sense.

[name_f][/name_f]

Honestly though it doesn’t really matter what other people assume. And a girl [name_m]Forest[/name_m] would be exciting to meet!

@DropOfsunlight Thank you for your reply! I do have a few classic feminine names I really like for a middle as well

@persephonescrown[name_f][/name_f] thank you for your reply. This is how I felt when I realised I like [name_m]Forest[/name_m] for a girl it felt exciting

I live in a place with adventurous but still fairly gender typical naming so something at the back of my head was making me question the name.

I think [name_m]Forest[/name_m] can work [name_f][/name_f]- like [name_m]August[/name_m], [name_m]River[/name_m], or [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]! I’ve known a girl with [name_m]Forest[/name_m] (or [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], can’t recall) as a middle

[name_f][/name_f]

I do think people might assume a [name_m]Forest[/name_m] is a masculine name, if only seen on paper [name_f][/name_f]- I guess that can be said for many unisex names [name_f][/name_f]- people will make an assumption/guess but that can be corrected.

[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]

seconding this! I’ve encountered boys called Ra.ven and St.ar and girls called Ke.egan and Sor.en and you get used to it.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Forest[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] aren’t too similar [name_f][/name_f]- unexpected yet they are cohesive to me

[name_m]Forest[/name_m] is far too masculine for a girl, I’m sorry. I think it would just be cruel.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] I’ve always seen as a boy’s name but I know an actress who just named her little girl [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_f]Winter[/name_f].

As others have said, most would assume boy and she’d have to be correcting people fairly often.

The question then is what impacts this could have on your child as a kid and as she grows up?

I have a name that people assume is masculine (Eloise is my middle name) and this occasionally bothers me. But it’s also not a cool name like Forest and I’m not in the US gender neutral / unisex names are more common. In Australia, you’d almost have to be a creative/ in the Arts with the name Forest (on a girl).

As for, Forest and Felix, yeah, they are quite similar for siblings, with shared F starting letter, similar length, and repeating sounds. But if that doesn’t bother you, it’s not a deal-breaker and they’re in no way too similar to use. I personally wouldn’t as I don’t like repeat starting letters (feels matchy).

Here are some other suggestions, if you can’t quite get on board:

Ivy
Iris
Navy
Vesper
Meadow
Maple
Juniper
Hazel
River
Hollis
Ember
Junia
Indigo
Sunday
Holland
Starling
Domino
Paloma
Holiday
Emery
Cleo

@atomicginge[name_f][/name_f] Thankyou for your reply. Definitely something for me to take into account.

People assume my son is a girl immediately even after hearing his name. He has curly blonde hair I think people just assume. He doesn’t seem bothered by it yet but maybe seeing if it bothers him, could help me see if [name_m]Forest[/name_m] would work.

I’m in the UK not sure if that makes [name_m]Forest[/name_m] on a girl even more unusual. Thanks for your other suggestions.

Should have thought that a [name_m]Felix[/name_m] was likely [name_m]Brit[/name_m]! (Felix is a gem name over here too). I still think a [name_m]Forest[/name_m] on a girl easier in UK than [name_m]Oz[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- because you have forests for one, and a more literary culture.

[name_f][/name_f]

That said, could it be a tad trickier to come a barrister & High [name_m]Court[/name_m] judge as a young woman [name_m]Forest[/name_m]? Yeah, I’d say so [name_f][/name_f]- I do think it would shape self-concepts as much as others’ perceptions [name_f][/name_f]- but just a tad and things are changing (and by the time she’d be joining the [name_f]Bar[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- lol [name_f][/name_f]- her studies & skills would be the first impression and possibly a third of the cohort will have outdoorsy, creative/word names!).

[name_f][/name_f]

I’d keep on list for sure!

[name_m]Forest[/name_m] for a girl is a no-no on my list. [name_m]Forest[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] sound like to brothers, and the alliteration of those boy names sound fantastic and well-thought out.

One of my coworkers has a daughter with [name_m]Forest[/name_m] as her middle! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Forest[/name_m] seems to be gaining popularity for boys so I don’t know how I feel about [name_m]Forest[/name_m] on a girl, but I do like the Portuguese word for forest, Floresta, on a girl, or something similar like [name_f]Florestine[/name_f]? [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Forest[/name_m] could work but in my mind it feels like an uphill battle. [name_f][/name_f] I do think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Forest[/name_m] could definitely work together though! [name_f][/name_f] Good luck!

Forest for a girl is not cruel. OMG. Isn’t this the same forum that likes Willow, Juniper, Laurie, etc for boys? What is cruel is spelling it Forrest to match the founder of an infamous hate group.

If anything, I would just think the parents of a girl Forest were outdoorsy and maybe a little hippie-ish. Not to mention there are so many girls with unisex or masculine names now, this will not be an unusual experience to be mistaken for male.

I’ve always loved the name Forest / Forrest, but I had no idea that Nathan Bedford Forrest was a big Confederate general and KKK leader until your post! That’s really good to know – I’ve been going back and forth about spelling it Forest vs. Forrest but I’d never name my child after someone like that so I much prefer Forest now!

Forest would be so so cool on a girl! So nature-y and green.
I don’t believe people would assume she was a boy just by the name (just speaking for myself here, not sure about other people ). Forest is usable for both boys and girls in my opinion.

Forest and Felix doesn’t necessary sound similar but it does match but its quite sweet actually! I don’t think it would be a big issue but if it feels like it is, with other names in the mix it may feel better? But if thats your style- totally cool! I think Forest and Felix together is so sweet!

Forest totally works for a girl. I might assume a male at first, due to trends, but I like to think that nature names are gender neutral (or should be :p)

I do think Forest and Felix are quite similar, but it’s doable.

[name_m]Forest[/name_m] could be cute for a girl.. but I do really love [name_m]Forest[/name_m] as a boys name and it’s one of the few boy names I love :yellow_heart:

[name_f][/name_f]

I think I would prefer it as a middle name for a girl something like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_m]Forest[/name_m] since I’ve been watching Bridgerton :two_hearts:
