I am fairly certain I will use Edwin for if I ever have a son. The nicknames that could come out of him are endless. Ed, Eddie, Ted, Teddy and Win are endearing. There are hardly any boy names that captivate my eye such as this, and I suppose that may be a hint. Edwin is also meaningful to me, in a secretive way. Buzz Aldrin’s birth name was Edwin, and the man after whom the Hubble telescope was named was also called Edwin! I haven’t been able to find something that honours my love for the MCU, so Edwin also being the name of the Starks’ butler sorta helps (JARVIS was named after him). He also finds mention in Charles Dickens’ final (and unfinished novel), The Mystery of Edwin Drood .
I am not even sure if I will bestow a middle name to him, but I made this post to satisfy the name-nerd inside me anyways. Here are the finalists:
Edwin Apollo - Apollo is one of the first names I have ever loved. Over the past few years, he has swiftly shifted to the middle name category where he remains at the top-most spot. Apollo was the Greek God of music, poetry, art, prophecy, truth, archery, healing, sun and light. I resonate with a lot of these; poetry, art, truth, healing and the sun. If anything, Edwin Apollo would have to be my favourite.
Edwin Alistair - Before Edwin became my top name, Alistair had the honour. One of my biggest qualms with Alistair was that I lacked any personal connection/meaning with it. The same follows here. I’d like a chance to use what once was my favourite name but there isn’t anything more to it that appeals to me.
Edwin Saturn - Like Edwin, Saturn is slightly significant to me. My love for this name began when I heard Taylor Swift’s seven which had the lyrics: love you to the moon and to saturn. Saturn was the Roman god of time. Saturn has the most spectacular ring system, with seven rings and several gaps and divisions between them. I am only worried about the similar endings and if they obstruct the flow.
Edwin Aditya - I have part Indian heritage, and I wish to honour it somewhere with the names I choose. In mythology, Aditya was the name given to the twelve sons of Aditi who were celestial deities, and famously included Surya. Definitely one of the first boy names that I liked, and I adore its similarity to Apollo (another favourite). The only downside of this name is its popularity. Aditya is the Oliver of Indian names, and it seems as if every other person is named this. I don’t know if that is enough to deter me from using this name.
Edwin Vivaan - Vivaan has been my favourite name for a long time, owing to its captivating sound and lively meaning that closely resembles my own. It will also be well-percieved by non-natives. As with Saturn, I worry if the similar endings run into each other.
So, Berries, what name do you think is fit to be my top boy name? Thank you.
