Formal Name for Dolly

I love the name [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]/[name_f]Dollie[/name_f], and would love to use it for a daughter. It was my husband’s grandmother’s name, and everyone in the family adored her. Her full name was actually [name_f]Diamond[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], but everyone knew her as [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]. However, I really don’t think I’ll get DH on board with [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] as a standalone name (even though it would be so cute with our other girl, [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]!).

Thoughts on formal/full names that could have [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]/[name_f]Dollie[/name_f] as a nickname?

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] (like the flower) nickname [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]!

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] make for a pretty sibset too!

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] was my first thought.

I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] as a full name for [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]; it’s so classy and grand but [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] makes it feel much more suitable for a little one.

Perhaps [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Endellion[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] is so cute!

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] are lovely. I especially think [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is more beautiful choice out of all options for this nickname.

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is lovely! Also maybe [name_f]Dora[/name_f] or names including [name_f]Dora[/name_f] like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]?

Totally honestly, I think you can call her [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] no matter what. [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] is kind of like [name_f]Honey[/name_f], it’s just one that’s a term of endearment and if you want to call her that as her mom, you totally can, regardless of her given name. You can hope for it to catch on with everyone else, or you can push it a little harder with something like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Delores[/name_f], [name_f]Donatella[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f], or I LOVED the previous suggestion of [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f].

I second [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - both gorgeous!

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] would be my first pick. I also like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], or [name_f]Isadora[/name_f].

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolores[/name_f]
[name_f]Danielle[/name_f]/[name_f]Daniella[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]/[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]

There are lots of good suggestions above for names that lead to [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] as a nickname…for me the problem is that all of them are longer & frillier than [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. I agree that [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] is like [name_f]Honey[/name_f]; it can be used as a nickname for any name. Perhaps using a D— L— combination would be a way to logically get to [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]…? W/[name_u]Ruby[/name_u], first names that begin w/D might be…

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Danica[/name_f]/[name_f]Danika[/name_f]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_f]Dinah[/name_f]
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]

Middle names that begin w/L…

[name_f]Larissa[/name_f]
[name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauryn[/name_f]

[name_f]Liane[/name_f]
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucie[/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f].

I second the consideration of [name_f]Isadora[/name_f].

I vote for [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f].

I just want to second [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] as a lovely suggestion! [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] of course is perfect as well!!

[name_f]Adelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], Audriella, [name_f]Adalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f], [name_f]Claudelle[/name_f]

[name_f]Odele[/name_f], [name_f]Odelette[/name_f], [name_f]Odeline[/name_f], [name_f]Odelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u]
[name_f]Wendeline[/name_f]

Like your husband’s grandmother did, I love the option of using both the first and middle name to piece together the sounds of the nickname. A few ideas: [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Demetria[/name_f] [name_f]Marisol[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f] [name_u]Blakely[/name_u]
