Formal name for Sally? (NOT Sarah pls!)

My hubby and I have decided on:

[name]Sally[/name] [name]Ann[/name] (Shamblin)

My main question here is… What can anyone suggest a Formal Name for [name]Sally[/name]? We love the name and will be calling her [name]Sally[/name] regardless, but I was really hoping to find something at least vaguely Irish/Celtic/Gaelic etc that [name]Sally[/name] could be a shortened version of. We cannot use [name]Sarah[/name], and he really has his heart set on reflecting our Celtic heritage in our children’s names. If we can’t decide on a Celtic Formal Name, we will just go with [name]Sally[/name] though. Its such a sweet name.

All 4 names here (excluding the “[name]Liam[/name]” variation) are family names. Oh, and yes I am aware of the slang term for Salvation [name]Army[/name] lol. I was NOT aware of it though, until we had already decided upon the name pairing.

It doesn’t bother me, just indicating that yes I’m aware =D

For boy:
[name]William[/name] “[name]Liam[/name]” [name]Patrick[/name] (Shamblin)
(Brief question regarding boy name: Too many “M” or “N” sounds with our last name? DH is [name]Shannon[/name])

DUE: 04/08/12, lvl 2 US scheduled for 11/14

I am Diabetic, overweight, age 38 and have been diagnosed with PCOS.
I take Metformin.
I firmly maintain that SOMEONE should have told me the ‘side effects’ of Metformin
and its relation to the reproductive system.

We have had 3 previous miscarriages over the last 12 years or so, not including the demise of one of the twins in my current pregnancy.

We have two children:
[name]Ryan[/name] [name]Christopher[/name], age 21
[name]Jacob[/name] [name]David[/name], age 14

I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA GET GRANDCHILDREN SOON, NOT A NEW [name]LITTLE[/name] ONE OF MY OWN!
…[name]Will[/name] wonders never cease!

I’m sorry to hear about all of the problems you’ve been having conceiving. But a miracle has happened and you need a formal name for Sally. Sabrina is a Celtic name with a long history. There is a Hebrew/Biblical name Salome. There is also Salma and Salina. You could also choose something like Rosaleen or Rosalie (which have “sal” in them). William and Liam are a little matchy with your surname but it’s no big deal. Another option is to call him Will . Good luck to you!

@[name]Mischa[/name], hit on just about everything that I was going to suggest. Other than what she has already said, another possibility would be [name]Isolde[/name] or [name]Isolda[/name] to reflect your Celtic heritage. I like [name]Isolda[/name], nn [name]Sally[/name] a lot.

Other names for consideration: Sarait/[name]Saraid[/name] (SOR-it/SAWR-id - means “excellent” in Irish Gaelic, some sources says it’s an Irish form of [name]Sarah[/name], so I could see [name]Sally[/name] working as a nickname). Séarlait (SHAHR-lat - Irish form of [name]Charlotte[/name]) or Slàine (SLAW-na/SLAW-nya - means "health in Irish Gaelic) could also be an interesting source for [name]Sally[/name].

Another possibility is to take a name starting with Sa-____ and give her another middle name ([name]Lee[/name] or [name]Leigh[/name]) to nickname her [name]Sally[/name]. Examples: [name]Sabina[/name] [name]Lee[/name] [name]Ann[/name], [name]Sarina[/name] [name]Leigh[/name] [name]Ann[/name], [name]Saskia[/name] [name]Ann[/name] [name]Lee[/name], etc.

Other names that have [name]SAL[/name] in them somewhere: [name]Rosalba[/name], [name]Rosalin[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Rosalina[/name], [name]Rosaline[/name].

I like these the most with the nickname, [name]Sally[/name]:

[name]Isolda[/name] [name]Ann[/name] (Shamblin)
Sarait [name]Ann[/name] (Shamblin)
[name]Sabina[/name] [name]Lee[/name] [name]Ann[/name] (Shamblin)
[name]Rosaline[/name] [name]Ann[/name] (Shamblin)
[name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Ann[/name] (Shamblin)
