Formal names for Hattie, Milly, and Tibby?

I have always loved the nicknames [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Milly[/name], and [name]Tibby[/name]. I think they are cute names for children, but not so much for an adult. I don’t like the common formal names that are used for these nn’s, like [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Mildred[/name]/[name]Millicent[/name], and [name]Tabitha[/name]. Are there any other names that could be used with these nn’s? (I know I am approaching this in reverse order.)

I like the name [name]Melina[/name]. You could do [name]Milena[/name] for [name]Millie[/name].

The only thing I could think of would be to find a surname that matches. Like [name]Miller[/name] or Milligan or Hatcher. I couldn’t think of anything for [name]Tibby[/name].

Good luck.

[name]Henrietta[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name]

[name]Ah[/name] ha! I do like [name]Milena[/name]/[name]Melina[/name]!

I agree. I think they are lovely names, but a little insubstantial as professional names on there own imo.

[name]Hattie[/name] – [name]Henrietta[/name], [name]Mehitabel[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Margaretha[/name], [name]Katya[/name], [name]Charity[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Natasha[/name]
[name]Milly[/name] – [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Emilia[/name],[name]Emilie[/name], [name]Amelie[/name], [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Milla[/name], [name]Milena[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name], [name]Mathilde[/name], Marilena, [name]Philomena[/name]
[name]Tibby[/name] – Bethiah, [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Brigitta[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Elisabetta[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] that helps

Great suggestions! I think [name]Milena[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] are great.

[name]Tibby[/name] - bear with me this one is off the wall but has been on my mind lately Terabithia. Yep like the book. I said it was off the wall. I’m drawing a blank.

[name]Mattea[/name], [name]Nathalie[/name], [name]Natalia[/name] - [name]Hattie[/name]
[name]Emeline[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] - [name]Millie[/name]
[name]Bettina[/name], [name]Bethany[/name] - [name]Tibby[/name]

I love
[name]Nathalie[/name] - [name]Hattie[/name]
[name]Camille[/name] - [name]Milly[/name]
and [name]Bettina[/name] and [name]Tabitha[/name] - [name]Tibby[/name] the most.

My flatmates name is [name]Milena[/name] and everyone calls her [name]Milly[/name]. I think it’s a great nickname. And i know its quite a popular choice (especially in the UK) but have you considered [name]Emily[/name] as a formal name for [name]Milly[/name]?

My great-aunt [name]Millie[/name] was [name]Emily[/name] or [name]Emilia[/name] (something about having been called a name that wasn’t on her birth certificate, formally in either case), and still went by [name]Millie[/name] after the reversion.

I think [name]Hatty[/name] is just [name]Harriet[/name], some say for [name]Henrietta[/name], which I think is more likely [name]Hettie[/name]. I can’t think of any other names for which [name]Hattie[/name] would be natural.

I have never heard [name]Tibby[/name] and can’t think of any good names for it. I think in the [name]Elizabeth[/name] family, that’s kind of a stretch. I like [name]Libby[/name]. [name]Tibby[/name] for initial T.B. comes to mind and then obvious associations for tuberculosis. I’m not that fond of the name [name]Tabitha[/name] myself, but would think [name]Tabby[/name] or Bitsy. I think Bitsy is a nickname to avoid, unless you are naming a pet.

I like [name]Tibby[/name] for [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Milly[/name] for [name]Matilda[/name].

[name]How[/name] about [name]Helen[/name] or [name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Amelie[/name] or [name]Camilla[/name] for [name]Milly[/name] and [name]Tilda[/name],[name]Theodora[/name] or [name]Talia[/name] for [name]Tibby[/name]

[name]Hattie[/name]: [name]Halcyon[/name], Hathaway or [name]Heather[/name]

[name]Milly[/name]: [name]Milan[/name] or [name]Emilia[/name]

[name]Tibby[/name]: [name]Laetitia[/name]

Some of these are a bit of a stretch but I still thought I’d just throw them out there.

[name]Milly[/name] could be for:

[name]Amelie[/name] ([name]Ah[/name]-Meh-[name]Lee[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]

The obvious nn for [name]Tabitha[/name] in this case would be [name]Tibby[/name] but having said that nn’s can spring from any direction. Is [name]Tibby[/name] a fun loving [name]Susan[/name], or a loud likeable [name]Whitney[/name] or a serious studious [name]Claudia[/name]?

[name]Milly[/name] is a bit dilly so I would like a [name]Mollie[/name] as a dolly instead of a dilly [name]Milly[/name].

[name]Milly[/name] is all [name]Amelia[/name] to me

[name]Hattie[/name] is a fun name, again any name that makes you smile would fit the bill. Batty [name]Hattie[/name] could be someone who wears outrageous hats or the fun side of sensible [name]Harriet[/name]. [name]Eliza[/name] nn [name]Hattie[/name] just because she is fun.

I am not much help to you at all but is it the gist of the person we are trying to portray or just trying to shorten their sensible name?

I am reminded of the occasional cases where someone has a nickname that’s not nearly close to their formal name. Like - My name is [name]Vanessa[/name] but everyone calls me [name]Lulu[/name].

My father’s family had some neighbors who were [name]Peppy[/name] and [name]Patsy[/name]. I was quizzing him recently about [name]Peppy[/name] since I brought it up in a post a couple months ago. I assumed [name]Patsy[/name] was [name]Patricia[/name] and maybe [name]Peppy[/name] for [name]Penelope[/name] instead of [name]Poppy[/name] (they were twins). Nope. [name]Phyllis[/name] and [name]Dolores[/name]. In retro-twin terms, I think a really good pairing and not very cutesy, but as their nicknames - and they were cute and matchy twins through maturity; I met them maybe twice, and they were Ps in a pod.

They’re your kids - you can tag them any way you like. The nicknames don’t even have to relate to their birth certificate name.

[name]Milly[/name] could work as a nn for [name]Marilla[/name] (which I love).

I was just reading a book where a girl was nicknamed [name]Millie[/name] and her formal name was Milwaukee (like the US city). A little out there but would fit for people who like place names and they could nn daughter [name]Millie[/name]/ [name]Milly[/name].

My names [name]Emily[/name] but everyone, I repeat Everyone, calls me [name]Milly[/name]

Tibile, Katiba and [name]Tabitha[/name] is all I have for [name]Tibby[/name]
