Curious what your thoughts are on using the fierce [name_m]Fox[/name_m] for a girl? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you happen to know any? I was inspired by [name_f]Jade[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] while rewatching Crouching [name_m]Tiger[/name_m], Hidden Dragon. I would pair it with something long, feminine and traditional like [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] or [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
Would you be bold enough and think it could work as a first? Or would you keep it in the middle spot? [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m], etc.
Personally I would use it as the middle name slot to be safe, but my taste in names is more traditionally feminine. If you feel it would work as the first, I’d use it. I find names like [name_m]Fox[/name_m] really cool, especially for girls, just couldn’t use them myself.
I wonder if you will still like the name in a few years. It just seems like a novelty that will become dated.
A female fox is a Vixen. It has the same connotation of slyness and coolness. Also Vix or Vixie both sound really cute for a little girl.
As always, if you love it, use it. You’ll know if it feels right and when you say it with the last name, don’t insert the middle name because it won’t come up in daily use.
Personally I think it’d make a really cool middle name, but I wouldn’t use it as a first name for a girl. I’d be too scared that it’s going to become a new mainstream trendy boys’ name to use it as a first on a daughter.
That said I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a female [name_m]Fox[/name_m], nor would I mind being called that, but everyone’s different. I think it’s a good idea to have a more feminine middle name in case she wants to go by something more feminine when she’s older, but like a pp said you should think of it as a first name - surname combo, not as a first name - middle name - surname combo, because that’s what she’ll be known as.
I definitely think it could work. I like both of the combos you mentioned (especially [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] – just lovely!) and I think pairing it with something longer, traditional and clearly feminine is the way to go.
I also love it in the middle spot for [name_f]Florence[/name_f] – the alliteration and clash of styles is very cool!
