Fox

Would you use [name]Fox[/name] for a boy?

It’s on our list. We both like it. It’s even somewhat traditional in my family, due to old traditional folklore connections to the name [name]Saul[/name], which is a family name. Everyone can spell it. It’s not hard to say, and it’s not as heavy as some traditional names, and my husband ACTUALLY LIKES it, which you can rest assured is relatively rare for him.

My brother’s middle name is [name]Wolf[/name], for one of our great-granddads. I don’t think this would weird out my family, but it may weird our my husband’s.

[name]Even[/name] if you like [name]Fox[/name], would you use [name]Fox[/name] if your last name started with an M.?

[name]Fox[/name] is cool! The only thing is the whole “you’re a fox” and “foxy” things, but I love foxes and the name is on our middle list. And there’s Fantastic Mr [name]Fox[/name]!!! I love that book. I’d use [name]Fox[/name] as a first name, unless your name is one syllable I guess, and no middle name starting with Y.

I really love the name [name]Fox[/name], I can’t see myself using it as a first name but I would certainly use it as a middle. I like it as a first name for other people though  Nice connection to [name]Saul[/name] and [name]Wolf[/name], and I think as [name]Ottilie[/name] said as long as you avoid middle names beginning with ‘Y’ or the ‘ee’ sound (e.g. [name]Fox[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] becomes [name]Foxy[/name] Lijah) you’d be fine. I honestly think the whole “foxy” thing would be more of an issue for a girl than a boy anyway.

Alternatively, the similar Fawkes (as in [name]Guy[/name] Fawkes) is also nice, as are [name]Faulkner[/name] and [name]Felix[/name].

All I can think of is The X-Files and how much [name]Fox[/name] Mulder hated his first name and never used it.

I love [name]Fox[/name] as a middle and plan on using it!

That’s actually a great idea for name!

I think it’s pretty cool, especially since it has a family connection.

[name]How[/name] similar is your last name that starts with a “m” to Mulder though?

I actually know a little boy [name]Fox[/name] and for him, a lot of men love it, boys his own age love it, and it’s 50/50 with the women. I think it’s handsome but quirky and mischievous too.

I like pp suggestion of Fawkes for a first name. I’d use [name]Fox[/name] in the middle, no hesitation. I think it could work as a first name, but I like it better in the middle. [name]Fox[/name] M would definitely get him noticed. That’s not a bad thing, there are worse things than being compared to [name]Fox[/name] Mulder.

… just as long as he stays away from autoerotic asphyxiation…

Not too bad, three syllables and different sounds in it, but [name]Fox[/name] M. is more difficult than [name]Fox[/name] pretty-much-any-other-initial-but-U, you know? That’s my issue, I think [name]Fox[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] I would go for.

I talked about it with my husband and he sort of really likes it so I’m at least going to keep it on our possibility list.

My only asocciation is [name]Fox[/name] Mulder and how much he didn’t like his name, but personally, I really like it, it’s cute and unique.

What about [name]Fox[/name] for a girl?

It’s one of those names that made me go “what the??” when a friend first used it for her little boy but it has really grown on me since then. The M surname wouldn’t worry me.

I have to say though that I love [name]Saul[/name] so if it’s still on the table I’d be using that!

Hey my thread is back! I am so stupid, though, I saw [name]Fox[/name] on the first page and my first thought was “Oooh! Someone likes it too!” and I clicked before I realized duuuuuhhhh.

Titch, I like [name]Saul[/name] too, but I don’t know if I can get it past the husband.

Blueberryessence, I can’t say I like [name]Fox[/name] (or Vixen) as much for a girl, as I think she would get “foxy lady” stuff a lot. Purely a matter of taste with such a “word name” - I like [name]Fox[/name] for a boy. I like other animal names for girls though. [name]Just[/name] personal taste.

I love [name]Fox[/name] for a little boy as a first or a middle, I wouldn’t use it for a girl. I would probably use it in the middle myself (mainly because it’s the only way I’d get it past hubby) but it definitely works as a first name too imo. The only thing that would put me off is the association with foxes being sly and untrustworthy but I was a big fan of x files, it was the first time I ever heard [name]Fox[/name] used as a fn and even though Mulder hated it I’ve loved it ever since.

I love the name. It’s uncommon yet familiar, has a family connection, and your hubby loves it! I would use it as long as your last name isn’t one syllable like [name]Fox[/name] [name]Moore[/name].

I love [name]Fox[/name]. It is on our short list for our son.

My son’s middle name is Wolf, and I have Fox listed as a possible middle names as well. We decided against using Wolf for a first name, because too many people thought we were crazy and we were tired of dealing with their reactions. I wouldn’t really use Fox as a first name for the same reason. If you are brave enough to do it though, good for you. I would love to meet a little Fox. Animal names are 100% my cup of tea!

I wouldn’t use it on a girl though, because the “Foxy lady!” and “She’s a fox” teasing would be too easy. Especially if she isn’t the most attractive girl, then people using that ammo sarcastically would be even worse!
